Members DavidF. Posted February 12, 2008 Members Posted February 12, 2008 How many guitar players do we have here? I've been learning for about 4 years now. I play a few songs and entertain my granddaughters.
back2roots Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 Yep...got one here. Picked around for a few years......still not too good, but have a great time playing!! Bill If you liked the sound....Thank the engineer!
Gavin Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 Started playing acoustic a couple years ago. I play a bit of folk, country, blues, and a some easy bluegrass numbers..Not very good by any means, need to work on my scales more, play along with music more, and work on funking up my rhythms. Fretting hand good, bad rhythm hand..at least my 9 month old daughter enjoys it. Cheers.
ryan Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 Iv been playing for about 8 years now and I love it if Im not playing my electrics, then I am sitting around picking one of my acoustics. I play all kinds of music and always love hearing good guitar. I have really been working hard on developing better fingerstyle, and the purcussive latin style. All great fun, happy pickin. What kinda gear do you all play? I have an Ibanez artwood acoustic/electric along with an ovation, and for electrics I have a peavy wolfgang, Paul Reed Smith Santan, and a fender strat.
Terry Beeson Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 OK... I'll admit it... I attempt to play. Haven't done much in a while, but kinda like ridin' a bicycle. Have a tat on my left shoulder of my Tele... Have gone through a Fender, Alvarez (wish I had it back), Ovation, Washburn, and a couple of others in the flat top category. As for electric axes - Peavy and Fender along with a couple of pawn shop modified hybrids I've tinkered with. Settled no with an Washburn EA and a Tele with Texas Tele pickups. My "dream" would be to own a Les Paul and a Taylor... Scheetz? Where are you? Gavin Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 Home-Alvarez AD60SC Dreadnought Cutaway with onboard electronics, Spruce top, mahogany sides..Had it set up to play mediums. Away-Oscar Schmidt Dreadnought...got it for $50 on ebay.. my campfire/float trip guitar. Action is a little high, but it plays OK with lights. Had my friends 60's era Les Paul at the house for awhile, but I never liked the weight or the wide neck..Thinking of adding a Fender HSS Stat to the mix in the near future.
davekeim Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 I've mastered Freebird, Queen, Skynard and many others. I have a wireless retro plastic guitar that communicates with Guiter Hero! I've dabbled with the guitar over the years. Never could stick with it long enough to become any good. Same with the violin, tuba, and sax. Guess I'll stick with what I know best. Not much! Terry Beeson Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 ...Oscar Schmidt Dreadnought... Action is a little high, but it plays OK with lights. You have lights on your guitar? WICK-ED!!!! Are they lasers? spots? LEDs? No... I know what you mean. I've played 11s and 12s on my flat tops a lot. I had a pawn shop special that I had to put 10s on or it would tear up my hands to play for even a few minutes. Played with the action, but didn't get the sound I wanted. Martins are NOTORIOUS for high actions, but that's what makes that bluegrass sound come out so rich. I know a fellow who took an old Martin, did some sanding and tinkering to shave off some of the action... the guitar never sounded quite the same. Still a good sound, but not quite the same. That's one thing I really like about Taylors... They seem to have a lower action and a rich sound... At least all of them I've picked up and drooled on have... As for the weight of the Les Paul... Yeah, I know... they are heavy. I mean, heck... Les's first guitar was called "the log..." But I just want to own one. Gavin Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 No what you mean about Martins....My bro-inlaw brought his Martin over at X-mas. It didnt sound as good as my Alvarez and the factory action was too high for comfort. Definitely in need of a pro setup. Frankly, if I had the $ for a nice Martin I'd probably opt for a Huss & Dalton.
Members Growler Posted February 12, 2008 Members Posted February 12, 2008 Hey, all fishermen/guitar players should have a Fender. StratoCASTER or TeleCASTER, it doesn't matter. Sorry for the bad play on words. I do play Strats. Have one at home and one at the office. Plus a nice old Ibanez acoustic that my business partner likes better than his Taylor. Funny, I wish I had his Taylor. While I don't think I'm very good, I get an enormous amount of stress relief from playing. After a particularly stressful day, there's nothing like waiting until everyone leaves, then cranking up to 11 and making the windows rattle. I play blues the most, and am just waiting for a pawnshop prize to come my way so I can set it up for slide. I think an intersting thread would be "what guitar did you used to have, that you wish you had back". Mine would be either an old Washburn acoustic, once again from a pawnshop in Branson, or the late 60's Gibson SG I had in Hays, KS.
