ryan Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 If you like a les pauls fat tone you should play a Paul reed smith. What kinda amps do you guys play through? Ive gotta marshal half stack (way to much) and a carvin studio amp thats my favorite (awsome tone) fat clean with the right amount of crunch. I just got a Boss Digital recorder thats awsome, you can loop tons of different drum tracks lay down your rhythm and then play over it with lead. You can even go back and dub mistakes. I would recommend this to anyone who likes to record or plays alone.
Terry Beeson Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 Ryan, I started with a Fender VibroVerb that was pretty sweet. I have a Fender Pro 185 that I use to play through when in the band. However, I ran a GPX and then a DigiTech processor later and just used the amp for the dual speakers. Couldn't get the sound I wanted in the 184. I have one of the little Marshall practice amps that has a pretty doggone good sound for what it is. I use it around the house. But then I also have a system that you run though with earphones and hook it to your belt. Sort of like a CD player or iPod for your guitar... Best amp I ever heard (other than a Marshall) was a Peavy MX. It was not too big, but had a speaker with a HEAVY magnet in it. That thing weighed twice what my Fender did and was half the size. But I'd really like to have a Fender Blues tube amp. ryan Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 Im thinkin fender hot rodded deville would be alright
Members DavidF. Posted February 13, 2008 Author Members Posted February 13, 2008 More replies than I thought. I play a Strat and a LP into a couple different amps. I struggle on my acoustics. I always liked guitar driven music mostly blues and classic rock. I have to divide my time between flytying and guitar playin'. Alot of people complain about an LP's weight. My heaviest LP only out weights my heaviest Strat by 1lb. I wish I had a Tele for that country twang. Anyway Thanks for the replies, DavidF.
back2roots Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 You guys might want to look at Danelectro. They've come back with the '63. It's a nice "go-to" axe for fun play'in. As for me, I have an older Martin...but if I had my druthers....I'd get an Avalon Legacy anyday (after I sold my car to afford it)! If you ever need mic's or PA gear for these bands.....give me a shout! It's what I do! Bill If you liked the sound....Thank the engineer!
Members Eric Jaeger Posted February 16, 2008 Members Posted February 16, 2008 My brother and I had a rock band years ago. I played guitar and my brother played the drums. After a few years of working our days jobs and playing late nights we had to stop the music. I sold most of my stuff back then but keep a Fender Statocaster Marshall amp and Boss Pedals. But I wanted to get into fly fishing so I sold them to a friend to give to his son. I used the money I got and hired Stan Parker of River Run Outfitters and stayed at Lilley's Landing and had a great time at Branson. I still got my Alvarez acoustic that I've had since I was a kid. Rock on Eric.
Wheatenheimer Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 Sorry so late in on the conversation. I started playing guitar when I was 12 or 13 (can't quite remember.) Took about a fifteen year hiatus on it. Have been playing almost everyday for the last 7 or 8 years (not that means I am good.....I am mediocre at best.) I have been very fortunate to have an older brother that is also a guitar player and bit of a wheeler dealer. He has passed on the good fortune of a Taylor 310, that I put a passive pickup in, this is what I take to open mic's and such. He also blessed me with a '57 Gibson LG-1, this is what I play around the house every day (it looks like it was dragged down HWY 65 behind one of those tour buses filled with blue hair's going to see Andy Williams......not that there is anything wrong with that, I love Andy Williams and blue hair for that matter!) Anyway, I am also a Mandolin owner. I just make terrible noises with this little guy. I need to talk to Gonefishin for some pointers on this, any help you could give me, brother, I would greatly appreciate. So I am glad to see many other musicians and wanna be's like myself out there. I think we need to all plan a fishin', campin', jam-circle trip sometime really soon!!! Kevin
gonefishin Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Wheatenheimer aka Kevin. Be glad to help. I don't know what you want to know but to start I would learn the chop chords and double stops. gf I would rather be fishin'. "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Members mark hedger Posted March 20, 2008 Members Posted March 20, 2008 3rd Generation Picker here. Although I have pretty much retired from guitar playing...too many broke knuckles. Sold my 72 Telecaster a few years ago. My son has picked up where I left off and left me in his dust. He has two acoustics, a Martin and a Taylor, and two electrics a Tele and Danelectro 56-U1.
rps Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 It would appear that guitar players are nearly as common as bbq eaters. And what's wrong with that?
