TroutBum4wt
Just wondering how many folks here wear a lanyard to hold tools, tippet, flies and etc. I'm always looking for a new way to go lightweight. Please list your likes and dislikes about such rigs, and any suggestions on models or features. Are they comfortable to wear? Do they get in the way when casting and moving? Cheers! I use one that is attached to my vest and has hemostats and a small leatherman tool. I keep them inside one of the outside pockets so they are out of the way. If I land a fish that won't shake off easily I just reach in and pull out the hemos and don't have to worry about dropping and losing anything. I did leave my first leatherman tool out in Colorado when I took it off the lanyard to clean some trout for dinner and left them on the lake bank. I believe mine is an Orvis, I gave them out as door prizes to our flyfishing club members here at work at our Christmas party one year. It only has 1 snap type clasp is the only draw back, I would probably prefer one that has 3 or more separate snaps.
flyfishmaster
TB4Wt, I have been wearing a lanyard for 4 year now. When I do wear a vest I keep the zipper down a bit and tuck the swivel with the floatant inside the vest to keep the lanyard closer to the body. Brand... Well... I made my own along with a hand made tippet holder. I started with a Wolverine brand black boot string, 6 big swivels with big snaps and 7 - ½" long colored beads to separate the swivels. This year I will be adding a foam neck pad. I liked the one I made for trout fishing so much I made a different one for pan fish. Later, FFM Woo Hoo Fish On!! Terry Beeson
I have a couple that I made, but need some of the foam tubing to make them more comfortable hanging on my neck. Any help on where to obtain such stuff? jjtroutbum
I have not worn one but have thought about getting one. One thing to think about is a quick release. soggyfeet
I have one but I dont wear it around my neck I have looped it thruogh on of the zippers on my vest and when not in use its in the pocket. Terry a hardware store might have some thin tubeing (like for the water supply for a fridge) if you could find a way to cut it and thread it through. Or get a pair of those wide neoprene eyeglass holders and work those into the lanyard. Brian
flyfshn
I have one that I bought from Cabellas years ago.....not sure of the brand, but it is similar to what is described above. Definitely need padding or some type of tubing or it will dig into your neck after a while. I still use it every now and then, but prefer zingers. Will have to think about adding some padding and then I might use it more. Fish On! Mike Utt “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery. fly2fish
I forgot to mention that the one I use is a zinger type, just pull out whichever tool I need then let go and it retracts back.
