G'day y'all from the Beaver Dam Store crew!

Ok, your favorite fishing report is back online this week. Our normal weekly schedule was thrown intosome disarray with our visit to Oklahoma City Boat Show last weekend. Our trip to "The Big Smoke" _ Australian for cities, so we learnt on the trip _ was a bit of a culture shock from the sleepy little hollow we live in.

Traffic jams, noise, smog and getting lost on the freeway system (not just once either) aren't too often a feature of Dam Store happenings. Then again fresh deli subs, real cappachino, and a great little pub in Norman, OK called The Mont were worth the drive themselves and introduced the Aussie to Sooner culture. We also caught up with a bunch of Dam Store and Spider Creek Resort regulars, and met plenty of others checking out our booth. We will be back in OKC this coming weekend for the Oklahoma City Tackle Show _ drop by the booth and say G'day.

Anyway it was nice to get back to the slow place of the Dam Store Hollow, and get back on the river. Steve slipped out onto the river a couple of times with his TFO 7"6' 3wt hitting the midge hatches which didn't disappear in our absence. We have also been getting some whispers of some shad action, time to stock up on some shad patterns.

In this week's report we unveil some very cool fleece that's as comfy on your wallet as your skin, show off some new Ross Reels and of course the fishing report.

Ross CLA

The Ross Cimarron name has been synonymous with tough affordable fly reels for years. Now the Cimarron has got the Large Arbor treatment. More line won back with every turn of the handle, less coiling opf the line on the reel, and they look pretty slick too.

The new Ross CLA incorporates the company's newest generation drag mechanism that is extraordinarily smooth, heat resistant and provides incredible stopping power. The CLA matches the Cimarron in durability and affordable price, but offers a stronger drag, greater drag range and sensitivity, more pleasant incoming and outgoing sound, hybrid large arbor configuration, innovative conversion mechanism and other additional features that anglers have come to expect with modern fly reel design.

DAM STORE AT THE OKC TACKLE SHOW

The Beaver Dam Store and Spider Creek resort are headed for the Oklohoma Tackle Show in Oklahoma City from Thursday to Saturday. We will have a bunch of Hobie Kayaks, come and cast new Sage VT2 and TFO Finesse fly rods, and maybe tying a few flies. Bring your friends drop by and have a yarn with us about your favorite getaway spot. The Show is being held at the State Fairgrounds _ I think we are in the transportation building again.

LEVI'S BIG 'BOW LIVE ON TV

If you want tocheck out some video footage of Levi Lenard's huge rainbow taken on a guide trip with Steve Dally keep watching the Channel 5 outdoors program with Robert Houston. Fred McClure from the program filmed a report with Levi, his father Lewis, and Steve on Beaver tailwater this past week.

They are also hoping to include a slice of live footage filmed by Lewis and never before seen.

Keep watching _ if we get a definite time for the airing of the segment we will try to let you all know.

KEEP WARM WITH SOME TOASTY FLEECE

You won't believe the pricing on these great new fleece layers for underwader wear. This base layer fleece from Pacific Fly is great for first or second layers and at just $20, for the pants or top you can get more than one pair for those multi-day trips. We also have the first of of the Pacific Fly windblocker jackets in stock as well. And more on the way. These retail for an amazing $40.

These are in a nice navy blue with a tasteful Pacific Fly logo. The look classy, feel great and won't break the bank.

FISHING REPORT

Beaver Tailwater

Well it was like coming home to an old friend this week getting back on the water after a few days away. The fishing was still good. the midges were coming off in droves and the dry fly action was Dam good fun.

The fish are getting a little pickier though _ think they might be getting a little wise now after weeks of this style of fishing. A good presentation is more critical and fly selection getting a little tougher. Cream midges 20s, Parachute Adams 20 and Razorfoam Midge in 20 are still your best bets.

We have also been getting reports over the past week of what sounds like some smallish mayflies coming off _ what sounds like either Tricos (unusual for this time of year, but the weather has been odd) or Blue Wing Olives. Not something we have been able to confirm but it might pay to keep a few patterns handy.

There has also been a rush on white crystal buggers, both our standard Umpqua versions and our Dam Store tweaked model, good signs that we might be getting some shad dribbling through the Dam.

If you don't fancy dry fly precision try swinging a soft hackle, Olive Submarine, Dark Olive Dun and Peacock and Patridge and in deeper or swifter sections try the new Fulton's Tungsten Wired Red butt.

Before the midge hatch try Zebra midges (black, brown or red); Razorback Midges; Charlotte's Redneck Midge, Bryce's TDM and other midge pupa imitations. Sowbugs are also good through much of the upper section of the tailwater. Try our gray sowbugs 12-18 or the sweet McLellan's Woven V-Rib sowbug. White or Olive Woolly Buggers, and Egg patterns are performing well particularly in peach colors, Umpqua's superb low water Flashtail mini eggs, and the bead head Veiled Eggs for faster runs.

Swepco Lake:

If trout on fly is serious fun largemouth on fly is pure fun. Steve, on his way back from a presentation to the Tulsa Trout Unlimited chapter (a great bunch of folks if you live in this area), hooked up with some buddies from McLellan's Fly Shop in Fayetteville. Todd Moncrief and Matt McLellan were hooking so many fish they ignored the cell phone for a couple of hours while Steve was on 412 _ missing the hottest of the morning's action. Including a few 3lb to 4lb fish.

The lake is low enough to allow some decent action off the shore where Steve messed about for an hour or so before the boys found time to check the cell. The trio were then back into some decent action until around midday when the clearing skies slowed the bite. Best flies were our Solitude floating shad, fire tiger Dames and floating Gummy Minnows (which we now have to order).

Tight Lines from the Beaver Dam Store staff,

Lisa Steve, Shirley, Tom and Kevin.
