Members brianbarker Posted March 18, 2008 Members Posted March 18, 2008 I got a huge pet peeve. I hate line memory. Mono, copolamar, I hate the memory they have after a couple weeks. Was Wondering what ya think. Any suggestions or tricks u guys use. I strecth my line once a week when fishing is often but only does so much. I was just going to get on here and ask the exact same thing. I have tired alot to try to get rid of memory but with no results. I did try that Reel Magic spray that you can buy at the reel counter at BassPro and it does retard a little memory but its expensive and doesn't work enough to be worth what it cost. I have tried alot of diffrent brands, running PLine now on my baitcasters and its just as bad at any other. The best I have found so far is, suprisingly, the Bass Pro Shops Xtreme Performance Series (XPS) florocarbon. It still has enough memory to piss me off sometimes but its decent. I think just about all mono is terrible for memory. Any tips of any mono or floro that has little or no memory would be awesome. Dutch Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 Go to braid. NO MEMORY no worry no fuss. When I use mono I change every two weeks and sometimes more often. That way I don't have much memory to worry about. I also use Real Magic when it isn't the way I like it.
rps Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 Braid is good for several things. I troll 10# braid for walleye. I often set up 14# braid for caroline rigging. For day in day out, I gave up on other choices like Pline and switched to Yozuri 10#. Yes it has some memory, but it doesn't break down in the sun or heat and it stands up to fishing. It is way cheaper than flouro and ties a way stronger knot. Try it and see if it suits you. Bon chance.
Members brianbarker Posted March 20, 2008 Members Posted March 20, 2008 I'm going to try this Yozuri line and see how it does. I've only ran braid on my baitcasters, never spinning but I have some newer rods and I'm positive the guides will stand it so I'm going to slap some #12 braid on it and see how it does. I usually dont fish anything on my spinning rods besides flukes, weightless worms and every once in a while a frog, so I need something with little or no stretch, so braid might just work. I'll give it a shot, thanks alot. "Your chances of ever catching a record fish increase in direct proportion to your distance from a reliable scale"
Buzz Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 I just got my weekly e-mail from wal-mart.com and they have a braided line on clearance that I've never heard of before today. It's made by Spiderwire and it is called Ultra Cast Invisi-Braid. I like the thought of a clear braid. I used to use braided line, but only for night fishing and would color the first 6 to 10 foot with a black marker. They have it in 10# and 15# for $17.99 with site to store shipping. I'm thinking it might make a good leader for trout fishing too. Check out Wal-mart. com... clearance items, unless your local store carries it. Mine doesn't hardly carry any good stuff anymore. Buzz If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
Members DoctaJ Posted April 8, 2008 Members Posted April 8, 2008 reel magic is good, I use it a lot. There is some other stuff from kevin van darn that I heard is better but I'm not willing to spend the money on it. No matter what mono you use, you will have memory. Braid has its advantages and disadvantages. It does not stetch but its strong, you will straighten hooks if you snag. Back lashes are also not as easy to get out with braid. Bass pro fluro carbon was rated top for abrasion resistance in field and stream but you can't fish top water with fluro carbon.
Paola Cat Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 Besides the braid suggestions, Gamma High Performance and McCoy Mean Green have the least memory for me. They're both copolymer. The Yozuri Hybrid is good also. PC Cheers. PC
gonefishin Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 I wish my line had more memory maybe then it would remember from outing to outing how to catch fish. I would rather be fishin'. Al Agnew Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 I agree with Paola Cat...McCoys Mean Green is the best line I've used for lack of memory. Still has some memory after it's been sitting for a week or two on the reel without being used, but the memory is gone after the first few casts. Brianbarker...I am just the opposite as you, I never use braid on baitcasters but wouldn't use anything else on spinning. 2/10 or 4/15 Power Pro is my choice. I use the spinning tackle for all jig and soft plastic presentations, and find that not only are spinning rods the most sensitive for me, but using them with braid, the sensitivity is terrific. And the very BEST thing about braid on spinning tackle...line twist has very little effect with braid. Spinning tackle inherently twists line, no matter how careful you are about spooling your line and no matter what kind of lures you're using, etc. Braided line twists just as much, but the twist simply doesn't affect it's casting performance like it does mono.
