A valuable lesson learned

Put in at Hawker point today, and just about left immediately when I saw the clarity of the water. In the past I have gone out of my way to avoid crystal clear water. Graph read 12 feet and I could see bottom. Decided that it would be a good learning opportunity so i picked up the spinning rod with 4 lb test with a finesse rig, and ended up having the best day I have ever had on Stockton. A lot of fish starting to move up, didn't see any beds, but lots of fish cruising anywhere from 2-12 feet. Most fish were in the 14-16 inch range, but did have a 6. 2 lb largemouth; on 4 lb line it was a bit nerve racking, but ultimately got it in the boat. There were fish on every bank I hit; steep banks, gradual sloping banks, chunk rock and gravel. I can guarantee that clear water will never scare me off again, I'll just throw the heavy stuff in the rod box and pick up the finesse gear.
