  1. And my first question was...What universe is she from?
  2. I don't buy that at all, sorry. For one, the company that labels it is responsible for the product, otherwise there would be only ONE company selling it. That is why companies employ their own scientists. Testing, I think, it is called. Then, it is up to the company to go to the manufacturer (factory) with the problem.
  3. It's a Cortland Embassy 60. I have it lined up with Cortland 333 WF4F. It is a great combination. Your welcome. I can't wait to do it again.
  4. My opinion only, and I have nothing against drinking a cold one. Here, if you are caught with a open alcohol container in the public, you can be arrested for public intoxication. It's at the officers discretion. If the person that is drinking is an idiot, you can bet a ticket or even jail will occur. The good 'ole days are gone. When I was in school, the local beer supplier was one that would sell it to you during the day then confiscate it that night if you got out of line, then turn around the next day and resale to you again. A very good scam to say the least, but it keep me out of the pokey.
  5. Notice the two front teeth missing. She lost one four months ago. I made the comment, that if she lost the other one too, she would miss out on this years corn on the cob. The other tooth should have been pulled a month ago, but she was determined not to lose it. Little brother pushed her into the sofa arm while they were wrestling, and guess what...Out it popped. She cried not because it hurt, but because she is going to miss out on the corn. KFF, We had a great time except for two encounters from the same group. Would have liked to met you, maybe next time, or we can get togther and fish one of these days. I did meet a fella from Pittsburg yesterday. His daughter and mine hit it off, and the fishing was soon forgotten. On the way home though she asked when we were going back.
  6. I have made a call, but had to leave a message. If I have to call them again and don't hear anything, I will post the brand in question. And then the consumer can do with it what they want.
  7. Steve, The lines were breaking, snapping not only at the knots, but in areas in between. No wind knots, because I was pulling lightly after tying the knots. The lines worked just fine last year.
  8. I have read the same thing Snowfly, that is what is so confusing. Companies say it won't, at least they did in the beginning. I haven't read anything about the change from the manufactures of the line. I think I am going to send an email off, and see what their reply will be. Saliva is used on all my knots.
  9. Thats no snake, he's doing the "Giant Taneycomo Squid" shuffle. hahahaha
  10. Give me a call, 918-541-5374. I have some questions regarding those flies you showed me. You tweaked my interest. Sorry, I couldn't remember your first name.
  11. I did some of those things in my more agile days. One does crazy things when you are young, but thankfully, most grow out of it. We moniter what the young ones watch on TV, so why not in public. Would I take my kids on a float trip now? Depends, I would do my homework to find out what all takes place on the river in question. A buddy of mine was on a family trip to California back in the mid 80's. While walking the sidewalks in downtown San Francisco, there was a large group of motorcycle riders that were protesting. Guess what they were protesting. This is what the signs said...Dikes on Bikes. They were cruising around on cycles without shirts on. Anyone should be able to run around without a shirt on, was their thought. He explained the best he could to his 9 year old son. To this day his son still remembers that. On another side note, my brother took some highschool kids on a canoe trip Saturday. He said the AG&F was out in droves writing tickets left and right. One of the kids in his group brought a life jacket from home, but was written, if I rememeber right, a $125.00 citation for not having a Coast Gaurd approved life jacket. So, they are not picking on just one group.
  12. I'll make it up there one of these days. Who knows, I might hide in one of KFF bags. What are the gas prices up there?
  13. I payed $3.08 today, 5/20/07, in Cassville, MO.
  14. I had trouble today with the 7X and 6X busting at the knot to leader and at the fly, and in between. The lines were purchased two years ago. Can this stuff go bad? It was the same brand by the way.
  15. Added to the chaos today. My daughter and I fished in the fly only section. We were two of five people fishing the second or third pool after the handicap access. We were on the very end of that pool. A family of eight came up right behing us and layed out blankets and the babies right behind us. They get their 4-5 year olds lined up and the first cast crosses my line. I try to double up on the retrieve, because I can't pull up a cast with the whole fam damily right behind us. Dad starts laughing, mom giggles, and I give a look that you would have thought would have made the point. BUT NO, it gets worse. I pull the tangle in and cut my line. That wasn't easy, but I pulled it off. Without retying, my daughter and I pull up anchor and move down stream. An hour later, here they come again. No kidding, they had to be testing me for sure. On this occassion I grab our stuff and tell my daughter in their presence that this is not how you should treat people. Mom of the bunch yahoos says, did you hear what he just said. Idiots I said, and off we went agian. No more problems the rest of the day.

  17. Who have a memory like mine. Don't forget about next Sunday being Mother's Day.
  18. Ok, I have the eyes taken care of. What I did was, I did a complete thread wrap to about half way along the hook then I wrapped back about a 3/16" then I built a mound. I slid the eyes up to the back side of the mound and wrapped the eyes, then glued. Snug as a bug in a rug. Now, when using man made fibers (slinky flash), how do you get the natural look at the tail instead of the straight trimmed look. This is a serious question, no x rated answers please. Not unless you PM them.
  19. I feel like I have been talking to my wife.
  20. I don't think I would care to find out.
  21. NCLB (No Cavity Left Behind) My dentist is great! He sends me reminders so I don't forget checkups. He uses the latest techniques based on research. He never hurts me, and I've got all my teeth. When I ran into him the other day, I was eager to see if he'd heard about the new state program. I knew he'd think it was great. "Did you hear about the new state program to measure effectiveness of dentists with their young patients?" I said. "No," he said. He didn't seem too thrilled. "How will they do that?" "It's quite simple," I said. "They will just count the number of cavities each patient has at age 10, 14, and 18 and average that to determine a dentist's rating. Dentists will be rated as excellent, good, average, below average, and unsatisfactory. That way parents will know which are the best dentists. The plan will also encourage the less effective dentists to get better," I said. "Poor dentists who don't improve could lose their licenses to practice." "That's terrible," he said. "What? That's not a good attitude," I said. "Don't you think we should try to improve children's dental health in this state?" "Sure I do," he said, "but that's not a fair way to determine who is practicing good dentistry." "Why not?" I said. "It makes perfect sense to me." "Well, it's so obvious," he said. "Don't you see that dentists don't all work with the same clientele, and that much depends on things we can't control l? For example, I work in a rural area with a high percentage of patients from deprived homes, while some of my colleagues work in upper middle-class neighborhoods. Many of the parents I work with don't bring their children to see me until there is some kind of problem, and I don't get to do much preventive work. Also, many of the parents I serve let their kids eat way too much candy from an early age, unlike more educated parents who understand the relationship between sugar and decay. To top it all off, so many of my clients have well water, which is untreated and has no fluoride in it. Do you have any idea how much difference early use of fluoride can make?" "It sounds like you're making excuses," I said. "I can't believe that you, my dentist, would be so defensive. After all, you do a great job, and you needn't fear a little accountability." "I am not being defensive!" he said. "My best patients are as good as anyone's, my work is as good as anyone's, but my average cavity count is going to be higher than a lot of other dentists because I chose to work where I am needed most." "Don't get touchy," I said. "Touchy?" he said. His face had turned red, and from the way he was clenching and unclenching his jaws, I was afraid he was going to damage his teeth. "Try furious! In a system like this, I will end up being rated average, below average, or worse. The few educated patients I have who see these ratings may believe this so-called rating is an actual measure of my ability and proficiency as a dentist. They may leave me, and I'll be left with only the most needy patients. And my cavity average score will get even worse. On top of that, how will I attract good dental hygienists and other excellent dentists to my practice if it is labeled below average?" "I think you are overreacting," I said. "'Complaining, excuse-making and stonewalling won't improve dental health'... I am quoting from a leading member of t he DOC," I noted. "What's the DOC?" he asked. "It's the Dental Oversight Committee," I said, "a group made up of mostly lay persons to make sure dentistry in this state gets improved" "Spare me," he said, "I can't believe this. Reasonable people won't buy it," he said hopefully. The program sounded reasonable to me, so I asked, "How else would you measure good dentistry?" "Come watch me work," he said. "Observe my processes." "That's too complicated, expensive and time- consuming," I said. "Cavities are the bottom line, and you can't argue with the bottom line. It's an absolute measure." "That's what I'm afraid my parents and prospective patients will think. This can't be happening," he said despairingly. "Now, now," I said, "don't despair. The state will help you some." "How?" he asked. "If you receive a poor rating, they'll send a dentist who is rated excellent to help straighten you out," I said brightly. "You mean," he said, "they'll send a dentist with a wealthy clientele to show me how to work on severe juvenile dental problems with which I have probably had much more experience? BIG HELP!" "There you go again," I said. "You aren't acting professionally at all." "You don't get it," he said. "Doing this would be like grading schools and teachers on an average score made on a test of children's progress with no regard to influences outside the school, the home, the community served and stuff like that. Why would they do something so unfair to dentists? No one would ever think of doing that to schools." I just shook my head sadly, but he had brightened. "I'm going to write my representatives and senators," he said. "I'll use the school analogy. Surely they will see the point." He walked off with that look of hope mixed with fear and suppressed anger that I, a teacher, see in the mirror so often lately. If you don't understand why educators resent the federal NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND ACT, this may help. If you do understand, you'll enjoy this analogy. Be a friend to a teacher and pass this on.
  22. I tied my first clouser fly last night. Not bad if I do say so myself. What I am concerned about is the hourglass eyes want to rotate around on the hook. They are snug just not tight. I did the crossover wraps (figure eights) and then I wrapped under the eyes but over the hook to lash down and tighten the eyes to the hook. I then applied Super Glue to the wraps. However the eyes still want to rotate. What did I do wrong? Do I need to wrap tighter? I have noticed on some clouser flies I have bought they do not move at all. Will head cement work better for this?
  23. August 18 will be another day to attend.
  24. Is there any way to get it to hold a longer charge?
  25. Okie FF, If they are the size of fish I saw last year, you will need to go heavier.
