Took my son Chance trout fishing for the first time and we had a ball with him catching his first rainbow. Saturday the water was running pretty hard so we went up and strarted at the cable throwing small crankbaits and the fish loved them with a beautiful male that was 18 3/4 inches that made his day and mine. We caught at least 30 with many 2 to 2 1/2 lbers WOW what a day the Lord blessed us with but Sunday was another wonderful day in large part due to Duane Doty and his vast knowledge and I owe him a debt of gratitude as he helped my son and I have a great bonding weekend. Thank you so much Duane you are truly a professional and a gentleman. Respectfully, Pete

Go to Lilley's and have Duane Doty take you out not only will you catch fish but learning curve will skyrocket.

Sunday we held our 35th annual tournament to some great weather and fishing. We all caught fish just some were bigger and more plentiful on a variety of baits from powerbait, jigs, minnows, worms and crankbaits. I for one had a wonderful time seeing and talking to old friends and swapping a few lies and stories. A big thank you to Phil and Marsha and the staff for their gracious hospitality as well as a special thanks to Duane for his advice although I did not apply it as well but had fun doing it. Thanks again to all and God willing will see you next year.

hillbillyflyshack replied to Phil Lilley's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
What a beautiful day it turned out to be with Mr. Crews catching Frank then returning him home and for us to witness it and to see such an awesome fish. God blessed all of us saturday to be a part of that special event and to see a record made. -

Outstanding Ryan you did a great job handling him and had some pretty good help with you.

On March 18 we held our 34th annual trout tournament with mixed re1sults. First place was father and son Gary and Jarret Peterson who landed a very nice 20 3/4" brown along with some decent rainbows. Second was Todd Snapp, Darren Reagan and Steve Ruffel that had two 1 1/2lb rainbows then third was taken by the team of Jimmie Waibel, David Oser and Randy Fry with some better than average fish. The rest of us struggled catching just your average fish which doesn't do it in a tournament but we had a wonderful meeting and steak fry on saturday evening thanks to our committee chairman Dean Reagan and head BBQ chef Michael Reihn. Thanks to the Lilleys crew for making our stay so enjoyable with a special thanks to Curtis for his help when my batteries went kapoot. See you again next year. BTW most of the fish were caught on minnows, spoons and crankbaits.

I have fished that tournament a bunch of times but never did very well but would not be too ashamed to have those fish in my bag although I figure it will take more than that to win it. By the way Seth I believe you are right about trying for a big brown but the only time I catch them are on sunday. Anyway good luck and will see you next saturday.

The wife and I came down for a couple of days fishing and relaxation for Valentines day and had a great time thanks to the Lilleys crew. When we got out to fish we trolled crankbaits with moderate success with three well over a pound and one pushing two. We fished from dam to dam and did not seem to matter it was one here and one there and never had a double. Hope I do better in the Elfrink tournament but confidence is not real high right now.

Spent the holiday at Lilley's fishing and enjoying the sights and sounds of Branson with wife to be and had a blast. Went to IMAX to watch Star Wars and WOW was that an experience then off to watch a show called the Grand Jubilee and enjoyed that immensely. Now to the fishing which was enjoyable but a little cool for the lady although she hung in there for the most part as we trolled from Fall Creek to the landing with flicker shads we did not hurt the population as we released all back into the lake. Most of the trout we caught were small however on Christmas day we were blessed with better fish and Theresa caught a very nice one about a pound and a half. As always the crew at Lilley's were very helpful and a shout out to DeWayne for his assistance when Theresa got the truck and trailer tangled up. See you again in January.

Sunday we held our 33rd annual tournament with very good results overall. It took over 14lbs to win and the team of Darren Reagan, Todd Snapp and Steve Ruffel did that with not one but two legal browns of 5.5 and 4lbs a piece while the 2nd place team had over 8 and a half lbs with a 4.5lb brown caught by Jaret Peterson, Gary Peterson and Ryan Kennedy. The 3rd place team of Mike Riehn, Dean Reagan and Kevin Hyland came in with 7.5 lbs with big rainbow of 1.5lbs. WOW what a day everyone caught fish and we had a great time with wonderful weather and with the much appreciated assistance of the Lilley crew out tournament was a phenomenal success. Most of the winners were tightlipped about how and where they caught their fish especially the big ones but knowing them well I have a good guess about their good fortune which was minnows and crankbaits. A lot of worms were dunked as well as the usual powerbait while a few chummed which I do not agree with and hope to change. Again I wish to give big ups to Phil, Marsha and their crew for making this outting such a success.

Elfrink Memorial Tournament, Feb 25
hillbillyflyshack replied to Phil Lilley's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
Aw Phil I was hoping to catch that rascal this year. Oh well guess I will have to keep coming till it builds up again. LOL -
Theresa and I had a great day on the water even though the results were not confirming it. We threw crankbaits all day looking for a big fish however it was not to be but we caught fish albeit small ones but the weather was fabulous and so was the food after the tournament. We enjoyed our stay at Lilley's as always and will return with high hopes to fish again.

Who's Fishing the Masters Tourney this Saturday?
hillbillyflyshack replied to Seth's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
My fiance and I will be fishing the Masters in white and blue G-3 f/s but would really like to know why anyone would eat a 5lb brown trout when there are so many smaller trout you could put in the pan. Do you have any idea how long it takes to grow one that big and the joy someone else would get to catch a trophy like that if you released it to fight again. Just my 2 cents. -
Flysmallie thank you so very much for the info just wish I had heard from you before we went to Pomme but never fear I will be back she is a beautiful lady just need to work a little harder before she gives up her favors.

fishing Pomme in the heat
hillbillyflyshack replied to hillbillyflyshack's topic in Pomme De Terre Lake
That is what happened to us on Sunday we choose to fish the Lindley creek arm and should have went to the Pomme arm as we got a good old fashioned butt kicken'. I agree that it is a beautiful lake but need to learn more on how as to fish and where although we did try several brushpiles but with very little to show for it. -
We held a small club bass tournament today and surprisingly enough most of the guys caught fish mostly on big worms rigged texas style as well as the carolina rig. Quite a few were caught on a jig also and the best arm today was the Pomme arm toward the river. Guess where I went thats right I chose the other arm and got my butt handed to me but will persevere and keep fishing even though it got hot later in the day with more traffic than was expected we still love the lake and will be back. Stayed at Clearlight Inn and were very pleased with the service and accomodations. We ate at the Crappie Hole and the food was great and at a very affordable price with great service also.

How is the fishing after all the rain?
hillbillyflyshack replied to hillbillyflyshack's topic in Pomme De Terre Lake
Thank you will be down this weekend to see if we can exercise a few. Wish I had an umbrella on the boat for some shade. lol -
We started at daylight working topwater then progressed to worms, swimbaits, carolina rigs, shallow to deep crankbaits all through the water column with little to now success. Two small bass and a small walleye were all we caught today. Not much of a showing for the amount of effort extended. Don't know what I was doing wrong but would sure appreciate just a little direction if you feel like sharing. Thank you
-
I will be there again next week and am hoping for better results as Pomme is a beautiful lake with very little traffic. Will post results or lack of when I get back but right now am puzzled as how to catch them. Good luck on your outting.

My lady and I were on Pomme today and must say it is a beautiful lake that looks really fishy. Will have to check out the 254 and the Crappie Hole as we will be staying at Clearlight Inn over the 23d and 24th. Ramman 123 your input is very appreciated as well as the others and will try your suggestions for sure. Thank you all for the assistance now if I can apply it properly and in the right places hopefully we will catch and release a few. Thanks again you guys are great!

Thanks guys sounds like we will eat good whether we catch any fish or not. By the way does anyone try topwater or just mostly plastic's.
