Today the White had water running all day long with up to five units and three on most of the day and still one unit at four oclock. I started the day with my customers Ed Goodman and Byron Will at the State Park ramp at 7:00 am and had the river at the dam all to ourselves for the first hour with the fish on a massive feed. Our first drift from the dam to the end of the catch and release area we boated ten fish and knew we were in for a great day. The bite got better and better as the day went on. The two best baits were bright orange egg pattern flies in the catch and release area and shad from the signs all the way to Partee Hole. We caught 11 Browns with the largest at 22 inches and 3 Rainbows 21,22,23 inches long. We released all alive and well after photos. By the end of our trip the guys had caught over 100 fish in total!! We sure could use some rain to stimulate some more action. GOD Bless and Good luck Hotdawg!

According to Ken Shirley with the AGFC this will be a great year for fishing do to the high water years of 2008-2009-and early 2010.All species had record spawns in 2008 and also all forage fish as well. If last year was any indication I had some of my best fishing for numbers and different species in about 20 years. Also clouds of shad that were bigger than I have seen in all my career of 36 years!! The winter weather has broken for now and with the warmer temps next weekend should start to see some action heating up on the area lakes good luck and GOD Bless Hotdawg!

The last two weeks the upper White has been red-hot for my customers and me. On February 4,5 With Mike Bryant and Tom Laffey, Dave Madsen, and Jim Covey we had two great days on the White with twenty three browns from 14-26 inches caught and released and also a 24 inch rainbow. This weekend Kent Smith and Gary Lange were with me and we caught 27 browns up to 27 inches in length and three rainbows 22 inches long. All fish were released alive after pictures were taken. We were using egg pattern flies when the water was on and shad and sculpins when it was off.GOD Bless and good luck fishing Hotdawg!!

The upper reaches of the river will open on February 1st and is one of the best days to catch a trophy brown or rainbow of the year. Last year with the cold and snow it kept the pressure down to the die-hards with me and only about eight other boats brave enough to tackle it. The weather looks like it will be tough again this year with snow and high temps only in the twenties predicted. But I will be out there.I remember that Phil was out there too!! GOD Bless and see-ya on the water Hotdawg!!

I have been telling everybody that the Bull is BACK!! I feel that this year will see some state records broken and that the fishing will be the best I have ever seen and I have been guiding the lake for 36 years now. I caught more fish all summer long last year than I have at anytime on the Lake. The smallies and walleyes are doing extremely well and can only get better with the lower levels this year as it will be easier to get at them. GOD Bless and good catchin to all! Hotdawg!

Perfect Bait For Big Browns?
Hotdawg Guide Service replied to ozarkstripers.com's topic in General Angling Discussion
As a long time guide on the White River in Bull Shoals they are a number of lures that work well for big Browns. Countdown Rapala's,Rattlin' Rogues,Lucky Krafts, and X-Raps to name a few. Some of the top baits would be Sculpins,River Shiners,Nightcrawlers,Crawdads, and Shad. The time of year and water conditions are what determines what I try first and then move to.When the shad are coming through that is the best fishing and the easiest for big ones as they want only one thing SHAD or something that looks like shad.Jig fishing is also highly productive all year long especially fishing on the rise.GOD Bless and good luck Hotdawg!! -
Bull Shoals Oxygen.txtThis is the oxygen and temp report from the Walleye club. I have been catching all my fish in 23-30 feet of water on main lake points and brushpiles on nightcrawlers. GOD Bless Hotdawg!

Hotdawg Guide Service replied to Hotdawg Guide Service's topic in Lower Bull Shoals
It is a modified carolina rig using a 1/4 ounce egg sinker a barrel swivel and 6 pound gold vanish drop about four feet long with a #1 aberdeen hook and the biggest nightcrawler you can find!! Hotdawg! -
These two fish that people are calling "GOLDENS" were caught by customers recently on the White River, you decide GOD Bless Hotdawg!!

The keeper walleye are starting to bite on the lower lake with live nightcrawlers working in 22-26 feet of water especially around the brushpiles.8 pound line and my special rig trolled at about .95 to 1.2 miles an hour if you think it is a bluegill bite set the hook and have your drag set real light! These were all caught this last week GOD Bless and good luck!!

The Smallies on the lower Lake are biting better than I have ever seen in my 35 years of guideing on The Big Bull. I have been out all week and on the White one day and the bite for smallie is AWESOME!! I am using Gitzits with a 1/4 ounce jighead holding the boat in 20-25 feet of using 8 pound flourocarbon on a spinning rod. Let it fall to the old brush line and move your bait slow. Also working well are lizards. The numbers we are catching are the best I have seen in years!! GOD Bless Hotdawg

The lower Lake is red hot right now with multiple species biting and keepers starting to show up more and more. The lake level is 654.65 as of tonight on Sunday with a prediction of 658 with no more rain. The fish are holding in 5 to 26 feet of water with multiple baits working and several different artificials as well.I caught the enclosed pics on the 21 with Hank and Shirley Delviney and they enjoyed the day so much they are going again on Tuesday!! The best bait is live nightcrawlers trolled at 18 to 26 feet feet deep. The best artificial is gitzits in baby poop color the best. Good luck and GOD Bless Hotdawg!!

One Day Seven Species
Hotdawg Guide Service replied to Hotdawg Guide Service's topic in Lower Bull Shoals
WALLEYE!! I also feel that we could break the state smallmouth record this year or next I had two customers catch 6-15 and turned them loose last year!! -
The bite from the big walleye's is finally started on the lower lake!! I caught this one Sunday afternoon in 26 feet of water on a nightcrawler dragging the bottom in 26 feet of water. We caught 17 more with 5 keepers and six other species of fish caught in a half day of fishing. The lake level is rising due to heavy rain this morning and more predicted all this week the bite for all species is really getting strong and should last now for at least a month and a half or more. GOD Bless Hotdawg!!

Greetings everyone. Sorry I haven't posted in a while but I haven't had anytime off and am fishing the White and the lake sometimes both in one day!!Well today was one of those days when didn't matter what we used we caught fish on it!! We used stickbaits, Lucky Krafts, Spittin Image, Pop-r, Silver Sonars, Cicadids, Spoons, gitzits, Hula grubs, lizards, and nightcrawlers! We caught fish on them all and from 4 feet all the way out to 36 feet on the nightcrawlers. The morning was better before the wind switched to the Northwest. Water temps ranged from 71 degrees in the backs of the creeks to 62 on the main Lkae. Lots of patterns working so just get out and have some fun!! Lake level is 677.09 and falling slowly.GOD Bless and good luck Hotdawg!!!
