  1. Thanks for the info- I might try to catch one of them the next time I'm down there. Also, do you catch many flatheads while fishing for those big blues? Never caught a flathead (though I've seen some caught), and I'm really interested in fighting a flathead, too. Rob
  2. Catman- any tips on how to get one of those monsters? I'm a catch and release only guy once the catfish get over 5 lbs, and I'm anxious to test my skills on one of those beasts. Rob
  3. #14-18 Pheasant tails and Hare's Ears, beadheads should be used only in the morning. #8 or 10 White wooly buggers.Maybe some various adams, and definitely some Griffiths gnats. This is in addition to your current selection. Rob
  4. Hey, they start selling peeps in the two weeks where winter C&R is closed, and and March 1 hasn't arrived yet. It can get pretty boring. Rob
  5. When we had the "once in 443 year" hatch of all 3 species, I caught some of the black bodied red-eyes. Caught several nice bass, and several 10 inch bluegill. Alas, I knew not fly fishing at this time, but oh, what a wonderful summer. Rob
  6. Peep jousting- two peeps face each other, a toothpick stuck in its chest. Microwave them, and they will stab each other. Lotta fun. Rob
  7. I currently have a logperch and a crayfish in a 55 gallon that I'm trying to convert into Ozark Stream. I am feeding the logperch earthworms that I am able to dig up out of my yard. It's kind of funny to watch him wrestle with on hanging out of his mouth as the worm tries to escape into the rocks. If anyone has a suggestion on an Ozark Stream fish to put in the tank, I would greatly appreciate it. Rob BTW- the rock in the tank is Wabash River Gravel, the stuff used for landscaping, the smaller sizes of it.
  8. Well, if its during the heat of the summer, an old pair of shoes or strap sanddals with old shorts work just fine. If he's not up to the shock associated with wet wading, then they have several pairs of waders for rent in the lodge. They are hanging in the corner by the ice, but not quite sure where you rent them. Rob
  9. A friend invited me to go fishing at a place back in the woods, so we got some poles and a cooler full of ice. We hooked over a dozen, but only managed to land five. My friend lost one of his poles, and couldnt jump in after it because his phone was in his pocket. Most of the fish were 2-5 lbs, but one was around 8lbs. Filled the cooler, and are planning another trip. Rob
  10. does anyone know how the redhorse are doing? im goin up tommorrow, and was just curious as to what to expect. Rob
  11. Two suggestions- instead of In-Fishermen, watch Linder's Fishing Edge (shows 11:30? here in St. Louis, local Channel 24 saturdays). The second- a competition. Hang a Woolly Bugger and a little Cleo in front of the TroutCam (both hookless, of course) and just leave them there, maybe comparing the strikes of "bugginess" vs "flashiness." Could be a really cool way to waste my free time. Rob
  12. if thats the worst your family does, ill trade ya! i can at least deal with sabotage, and usually prevent it (they are afraid of my paybacks). Rob
  13. im located at the 33 mm on the osage arm, and limited in my areas to fish- landlocked. I have access to 3 large docks in a cove, the cove bank, and a point that drops into 70 ft of water relatively fast (south edge of cove). I mainly fish for crappie, and have caught a few white bass while fishing for crappie under the docks. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to get good numbers of white bass from this area. I will most likely be down in early June, so I'll have plenty of time to prepare. Thanks in advance, Rob
  14. just a forum?! thats like saying morels are just mushrooms, and beer is just a drink. give respect where respect is due, man. Rob
  15. Completely understandable. Halfway to tan vat i lost feeling in my fingers. Was not good. Rob
  16. mcp633- OK, you walked out with the fly-rod and she had a spinning rod, right? When I saw you, I thought that you might be accompanying usn into the trophy water. Shame we didn't get a chance to talk. Rob
  17. Caught a bunch of nice black crappie on a #12 2x long BH Fox Squirrel Nymph. Small Strips/ Slow retrieve. Shallow water around a rock reef around outer edge of emerging water primrose. End Transmission. Rob
  18. Yeah, we did. Early, right after the buzzer. Brown '98 Dodge Ram with a matching camper shell. I was the one wearing the "Here Fishy, Fishy" hat and the camo jacket. Where were you at when you saw us? Rob
  19. The way I've always been able to tell when to go is when the pin oak leaves are the size of mouse ears, and the ones here at school have the right sized leaves, even though the ones at home (30miles south) are just budding. If anything, I guess the blacks (grays?) and half-frees might be out already. We just got a lot of rain, and it's nice and warm, but I can't get out until friday. Rob P.S.-What are everyone's favorite ways of telling when to go?
  20. I was there with a friend, and we spent saturday and sunday mornings outside the park. Caught 7 fish each between the park and tan vat on saturday, and got out extremely cold. Fished down from baptist the next morning- no fish. Went to tan vat on the way back and ended up with 3 fish between the two of us. I was there early on friday (half day of school), so I spent friday, saturday, and sunday evenings in the fly-only and C&R areas. Spent monday morning there too, and we kept 3 each for friends back home. Can't wait to go back and get the skunk off of the Baptist Camp stretch. Rob
  21. im going down. reservations got screwed up, so ill probably be the pop-up in 121. if not, ill be somewhere in one of the non-reservable electric sites. brown truck, IL plates, camper shell. ill be the brown haired kid about 6' tall. Rob
  22. Randall, maybe it's lidocaine. Common ingredient in several aloe vera lotions for sunburn, like Ocean Potion. Works wonders. Rob
  23. I will also be down there St. Paddy's Day weekend (if all goes as planned)- site 230. I'll be the kid about 6' with brown hair, and usually a "Here, Fishy Fishy" hat. Will try and stay outside the park during peak fish activity, and Fly Only and C&R during afternoons. Rob BTW- University of Missouri-Rolla has the biggest college St. Pat's celebration nationally, population of the town doubles. Just lettin ya know for the drive in.
  24. I was down there this past summer, and while there were no restrictions on camping at Tan Vat (no signs, at least), I'm pretty sure that I saw a few signs at Baptist that have a crossed out tent. So I think there is no camping at Baptist (but I could be wrong). Rob
  25. we seriously need that to be the forum motto, or at least put it somewhere where people will see it Rob
