Nice! I'm going back tonight to do some more fly fishing, but i think i will start out up at the Orleans bridge. I am seriously considering taking a heavier rod and some bottom bouncers and crankbaits and trying to get some walleye moving up the river to spawn. I have had luck in the past but it may still be a bit early. We'll see.

It truly is an addition. All those long hours in the freezing cold dark along the river...good times! I really need to get down there just haven't had the time. My wife thinks I'm crazy, but once you catch them you're ready for another 8 hours of fishing! Keep it up!

I guess it depends too if you are bank fishing or boating it. Shore fishing near the CC ramp and bridge you can catch smaller largemouth, walleye, crappie, and white bass usually. Also I have had good luck at Masters shore fishing with crankbaits and tubes.

Fished for about 2 hours tonight from about 100 yrds north and south of Taylor's bridge. Didn't catch any fish. Probably due in large by the fact that I was working on my fly fishing and was not doing it very well. Also tried roadrunners with grubs, and swimming minnows. I think the water is just to muddy and moving too fast. I saw about 10 others fishing with no fish, so maybe I'll give the river a day or two to calm down.

Has anyone been fishing south of the CC bridge since all this snow has melted? Was thinking of heading over there the weekend or early next week but didn't know how muddy the water was. Thanks!

I have had my best luck of of main lake points with either jigs rigged with nightcrawlers (1/4 oz in chartreuse, lime, or white) bounced on the bottom or on smithwick rouges. Also this time of year you can use the same techniques at CC along the shore. You'll have to be slow with your retreive and be patient. Also check older posts and you'll probably get some better advice from better anglers. Zac

My wife and I drove over Maze Creek on hwy 215 and over the 215 bridge near Alrich and it was frozen as far as we could see in Maze creek and pretty far out at the other bridge. When going over the 245 bridge the main lake was clear, but I didn't see any ramps to report on. Hope this helps Zac

Gunbroker.com will give you a good nib price, and some auction prices, but they tend to be little high in my opinion. I guess it all depends on quality and age. Hope this helps.

Yeah I usually have my best luck at the end of Feb. to the middle of March. They can usually be caught from the barker hole to shadow rock park this time of the year though. I just haven't had a chance to head down there. Thanks guys!

I actually made a mistake in my post, they are: Johnny Morris Signature Series Baitcast Rod 7' Med Heavy Action 2007 Model Johnny Morris Signature Series Baitcast Rod 6' 6" Med Heavy Action 2006 Model Johnny Morris Baitcast Reel One is a JMX10HB High Speed and the other a JMX10SB. They were both purchased in 2009 The rods and reels are in very good condition because of my terrible ability with baitcasters. I've only used them a handful of times since I bought them. I am asking $160 each for the combos or $300 for both combos. But I am open to offers.

Has anyone started catching any walleye from the Barker Hole to the Dam yet? I've been thinking of driving down this weekend to do some afternoon/night fishing. Thanks!

I was thinking about hitting the lake for some afternoon/night fishing this weekend for walleye. Has anyone been catching any? Any tips on bait to use. I was planning on hitting some points that i've had luck with using jigs and worms, or crankbaits. I also thought about bottom bouncing some of the flats. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Do you still have your pickup?
-
Yes, it is ancient for sure! I got it and a 62' Johnson 28 hp motor from a guy for free if I would haul it out of his yard! It was full of water and a wide variety of plants and animals when i hauled it home. But it has actually turned out to be a pretty nice little boat. Nothing fancy by any means, but it lets me crappie fish and get out on the lake which is where i love to be! Maybe someday i'll be able to afford a nice boat...but probably not. I'll post some photos of the ol' gal when i get a chance.

Straw, I understand your troubles, i have been rebuilding an old 58' Crestliner V-hull and it has been a nightmare. I had the same problems after only a few months of using the boat with the rot. If you go to iboats.com and check out their forums you will find MOUNTAINS of information and pictures of what people have done and they are very helpful and give advice freely, much like OA forums. What i did was get some outdoor carpet glue and some rubber backed outdoor carpet from lowes. Much cheaper and essentially the same thing as marine carpet. Also instead of wood sealers I used fiberglass resin and coated the plywood and it really stiffend it up and completely water sealed it. Just a thought. Let me know how it goes for you! Good luck! Did you see the old Humberts Store in Bona? It is a white building on the northeast corner of the 4 way. It is a decent sized store with an apartment on the back of it. The people selling it also own the little boat storage facility to the north. If someone was to fix the place up i'm sure people would stop there as it is so close to Cedar Ridge.

Fellows Lake Crappie?

Will do! I have a old 58' Crestliner 14' Vhull. Its a interesting rig...to say the least. lol. I'm trying to catch some muskies right now but not having much luck after hours and hours and hours of trolling and casting. Maybe someday, now that the water is cooling down. Cya out there! -
I grew up within about a mile of Stockton Lake near Cedar Ridge and have to say it has been awesome my whole life! There are a bunch of little shops that aren't much to look at, but some of them are okay, but some are definitely rough. I never fish over on the west side much as the east is much closer and i have more experience there, but there are a couple of decent shops to get some bait and tackle on your way from springfield. There is a small shop just north of Walnut Grove on hwy 215, good minnows, worms, etc. also there is a gas station in Dadeville that now has nightcrawlers and minnows, he is a good friend of mine and has really cleaned the little place up. They have sandwiches, pizza, and small groceries. I don't think he has much tackle just the live bait right now. I have had good and bad experiences with Lakeys in Aldrich and the Country Depot near Mutton Creek. Usually it is when there are people i know working there. I will say that the Country Depot owner is one of the nicest ladies ever! There is a old bait shop for sale in Bona, just 1/2 mile or so from Cedar Ridge for sale and I used to love that place! It was called Humberts and they had everything you could imagine. They couple retired when i was growing up, wish someone would reopen it. Hope this helps in your tackle/bait search in my neck of the woods!

Fellows Lake Crappie?
Zac Seale replied to Amish Bill's topic in Fellows Lake, Springfield Lake, McDaniels Lake
I've seen and heard of some good ones being caught where the water goes under the bridge on the east end of the north arm on nightcrawlers and minnows. Also off the rocks about 1/2 between the bridge and the fishing dock. -
I would like to trade my 97' Acura 3.0 CL for a truck. It is a very reliable good running car and has never given my wife and I any serious problems. My wife was the 2nd owner, and the 1st was an older gentlemen that always had it service at Acura in Springfield. It gets around 26-27 mpg for me now we just really need a truck. The car has around 145,000 miles and i am looking for just a good dependable truck to drive to work, the lake, hunting, etc. It must be reliable, a lot of miles doesn't really bother me as long as it is a solid truck. I would love a 4x4 but at this point would settle for a 2wd truck. Please let me know what you have and i'll see what i can do. THanks!
