I went out of High Point Friday and fished my white bass bank about a mile down river. Main lake was 54.5° Saw a few fish on the graph but they weren't biting. Went back around near the ramp and found 57.6 later on. Caught 6 blacks on a wart and wacky worm. Oh, make sure when you tie your boat to the dock to go park you double check your knots or you're probably gonna get wet!

Here's a couple of videos of white bass trips from 2018 and 2017. Reposting just to keep our juices flowing! These are both taken in late March & April on the same piece of bank west of High Point towards Cedar Ridge. Audio is a little janky and there's way too much dog butt but there's no reason you can't go catch these big sows real soon! I know I'm gonna...

Monday at High Point it was 54.4 with perfectly tinted color...

Here's a 10 minute video of my dog with me fishing in the background... I was slaying the whites and thought the next best thing to catching fish is watching somebody else catch em!

Well that was a bust... Put in at High Point about 9 this morning. Water is up, had to wade calf deep to get to the dock. Stained pretty bad with 10" visibility, water temp ranged from 50.1° to 51.7°. Went to my white bass bank and saw very little action on the graph. Fished two passes throwing the A rig without a bite. Wind was pretty strong too. Left that to bass fish for a couple of hours but after only 1 short fish I bailed. Winds were gusting to 30 and the cold rain was coming. Will try it again next time!

I've used Storm's wildeye swim shad in the past but am now using a 3" Powerbait shad. I dont think it really matters that much but who knows?
-
I'm gonna go up tomorrow and see if I can reproduce that trip. I'll let ya know how it turns out...

I posted this a year ago and recently watched it again. It may help someone new to the lake, site, sport to catch some whites this spring. It's a limit of big sow whites caught in 30 minutes.

Fished with Dollar Bill on Thursday 3-21
Dollar Bill replied to Steve McBasser's topic in Stockton Lake
We think the key was temp... we fished pretty much 10-3 in 49° to 50° water then stumbled on a piece of bank above 55! Game on! Most fish came the last couple of hours on warts fairly shallow off those warmer rocks. Always great to fish with Steve... -
From late April thru May I always look forward to catching some spawning channels on the rocks. Couldn't find em this year... All my spots were way too deep and I didnt adjust well. Any tips or stories?

$5 at the campground ramp (make sure you have your own pen!) Water color is great around 245 bridge and progressively goes from off color to stained to almost muddy as you approach Highpoint. 57.7° was our high water temp yesterday.

Outstanding! Always nice to have a vacation day pay off, especially when the wife is along!

We fished the same bank I videoed and caught 10 between us in the first pass. Thought that was a little slow so we went to another bank up towards Highpoint and only caught 1 or 2. Went back to the first Bank and finished up our limits... Took us 3 hours to fill up so still a great day! Glad we got off the water when we did!

Hope to find out today! My buddy and I are going to go today and I'll let you know. Sure hope nobody has been hitting our spot ?

Like most everyone I have resisited throwing the A word. It is not a simple throw and retrieve, not to mention the effort that is required. This smaller and lighter A rig is much easier to throw all day. Couple with a medium heavy 7' rod and some braided line. I use braid cause if I get it hung up bad I can usually just wrap the line on a cleat and straighten a hook to get back most of my $20 investment!

As usual with fishing, it's always right time and right place... After I caught my limit that day I continued to catch them on the A rig to cull a couple of shorter fish but also experimented with a rattle trap and wiggle wart. Caught fish on both but neither produced like the rig. I met a couple of guys at the ramp putting in who don't fish much so I told them what's up and they were catching them on crappie minnows too. My best suggestion would be to find channel banks on the "hiway" to their spawning grounds and look for fish on the graph near the bank in 10 to 30 fow. Fish near the bottom as slow as feasible with some kind of minnow bait. Good luck!

If you have a half hour to burn, watch me put a limit of big sow whites in the boat in 30 minutes real time... Spoiler alert! I'll show you the bait, the graph & the spot so you can replicate the success. Sorry about the sketchy audio and yes, my dog has a cute butt...

Hey Willy, the Greenfield ramp at CC is just fine for launching, though I have seen several 2WD pickups struggle to get up the ramp loaded as it gets pretty slick when wet...
-
Fished CC area from 9a-4p, water temp 68.1 - 68.4. Felt like one of those perfect days with a low sky and mild breeze. Lots of shad and birds and not too crowded. Ended up with 7 keeper LM and 7 nice sized whites. Many short fish too. Caught most fish on a white rattle trap but also on a wart, spinner bait and an A rig. It always amazes me how hard that area gets hit and how it always seems to produce fish. Stockton is a really good fishery and we should be thankful! Probably the best part of the day was the lack of even one political commercial!

Caught this spawner and several similar fish around High Point Sunday. They ate both minnows and worms under a bobber set about 4' deep in water about 6 to 8 foot around big rocks. Big fun on a 6 pound test crappie outfit and the best tasting fish you can fry in my opinion.

Great day guys! Stockton has that ability to provide those special trips where, once in a while, if you're in the right place at the right time, you get to go catchin and not just go fishing. Glad it happened to you! Thanks for sharing.

The bonus of the day was my personal best largemouth! I've got an old 7-6 on the wall and this fish is bigger. Caught by accident on an umbrella rig and photographed and released unharmed. You'll recognize her if you catch her by her deformed upper lip which probably got injured in her youth leaving her bottom lip protruding 3/4" further out.

After I had found those those white sows I wanted to share my luck with a couple of fishing buddies and that turned out like it usually does... They weren't biting! They were there on the graph but just wouldn't hit very well. I did scratch out a limit in only 10 hours even tho my starting battery gave up and left me graphless and towed (thanks Steve & Gary!).... Water got up to 61.7°

I admit I'm uneducated on the spawning habits of white bass but here's what I learned. These sows are ready! I cleaned 15 and there was only 1 male. The egg sacs were not only big, they were so soft I could hardly touch them before they broke apart and the contents flushed down the sink drain. I can't imagine they were going further up river. I always thought they spawned up river way before the "lake fish" did but now I'm even more confused...
