  1. Ah yes. The old roach clip. I remember them quite well. Never did bother puttin' them feathers on 'em though. Just and old alligator clip was all I needed. Then again, I done burnt my finger tips quite a few times too. Then I discovered the fine art of pipe smokin'.
  2. Well, I ain't got no gas or &*+$$ and I sure as 'll ain't given a$$ so I guess I'm outa luck. See ya on one of the floats sometime...
  3. NEWS FLASH ! ! ! ! There's "poop" in every lake that has any kind of life in or around it. Especailly human life. And did I see something here about regulations? Really? Does anyone really want the government to step in and fix this situation? Do people really want big brother coming onto their property and telling them how they should manage their waste material? Who cares if people are getting sick and fish are dying? Can't have government intruding into the privacy of citizens. Nope. Especially not in a god fearing republican state like Missouri.
  4. The first time I took my Tarpon 140 out this year, I somehow lost one of the S-hooks on my rear tie down strap. I noticed the strap flapping in the rear window so I pulled over to the side of the road. The Tarpon took a nose dive off the top of my van. It got a little road rash, but nothing major. Worse thing that happened was the mount for my depth finder busted into several pieces. Got that replaced and the yak is ready to go and floats like nothing ever happened to it. Wonder how a canoe would have held up to that punishment.
  5. Should get anybody stoked to go fishing anywhere. I know it did me. Only problem I have, is I'm broke and can't afford the gas to go. I'm only about 30-40 miles from there. Why not swing by and pick me up the next time you go?
  6. It looks silly in anyones hair.
  7. But that won't put the gas in the tank to get there. Send me the directions to this place and I'll see if I can borrow some money to get there. I may not be able to bring my yak, so if you can find me a seat, I'll consider it. I really would like to attend this shindig.
  8. But they would LOSE.
  9. Can't go wrong with black or olive.
  10. Were all of those fish caught on the North Fork?
  11. No canoe person could argue with the ease to which getting on or off a SOT kayak can be. Drop your legs over the side and stand up. Stradle the yak and sit down. You'll never see a canoe person get in and out that easily.
  12. Wonder why it's always lawyers who are mostly responsible for writing the laws in this country? It's not always about right and wrong because juries have their own biased opinions before going into a court room. Will an innocent black man be found not guilty in a court where the jury is loaded with klansmen? Money does buy a defense. It shouldn't, but the first person to claim the justice system in this country is truly fair, is a LIAR. And don't bring up O.J. You weren't there. You don't know if he was guilty or not. You only have yor own BIASED opinion on that matter. Half this country thinks he was innocent and the other half think he was guilty. Neither of us were there when the crime was committed. We don't know and should not form opinions to guilt or innocence. We can only accept the outcome of the trial he was given. Whether we like it or not.
  13. The first thing I usually tie on are Rapala shallow shad raps. Color depends on water clarity, but crawdad and silver are high on the list.
  14. Gotta wonder if he'll be charged with "terrorism" for poisoning the cities drinking water.
  15. I don't see why they wouldn't be legal. Haven't seen anywhere in the regs that say they wouldn't be. As to not seeing anyone use them, how many people do you see fishing Norfork, that are really fishing for walleye? How many people do you see fishing Norfork are actually trolling? I know I don't see that many. But then, I don't go out on the main lake where I would suppose the walleye would be this time of year. If you do see anybody trolling Norfork, they are most likely fishing for stipers. But then again, a planer board would work for that too unless you use a heavy umbrella rig.
  16. I bought a Fishpond WASATCH TECH PACK and it will carry a six pack. It's not insullated, but it will carry a six pack plus. I'm sure you could put a six pack in it and some insulating material. It also has a compartment for a hydration bladder. The front pockets will hold a few boxes for jigs etc. It also has two water resistant pockets for your camera and wallet (or whatever). I bought this pack earlier this year to replace a vest and Camelback hydration pack. I like it and would never go back.
  17. Too many people listen to all the bad reports they hear about lawyers and get some misinformed conception in their minds that ALL lawyers are bad and they hate them. Until they need one.
  18. Hmmmmm... I wonder now, just who is behind all the thefts at the launches? Pay someone to watch your vehicle or have it broken into. Just kidding of course. I hope. And the best thing to avoid any break-ins, is to keep anything of value out of sight. Take your cell phone, wallet, etc. with you. Keep them in a waterproof container while you fish. Have a spare key made so you don't have to leave your keys in the car. I carry my keys on a leash while fishing. I don't have one of them fancy schmancy electronic keys so if they get wet, so what. Then again, you could keep them in the same waterproof holder as your cell phone and wallet.
  19. Ever hear of no-hackle flies? Comparaduns? How about nymphs? Streamers? There are plenty of fly patterns that catch fish that don't need hackles. Just quit buying hackles. When the feather hair fad wears out, you still won't need hackles cuz you learned fish bite better on flies without them anyway. But I would stop shopping at a shop that did what you described. Just like flies that catch fish without hackles, there are other shops out there that still care about flyfishers.
  20. I bought me a "Lippa-4-Life" tool and got rid of the net. I got tired of the net snagging brush while getting to the river and my hooks getting stuck or wrapped up in the net. No more net for me! I carry this on a loop on my vest and it works great. Shop around, the prices vary. LLBean is advertising $36.
  21. Sylamore Creek, AR?
  22. Hey Mitch, have you been hangin' out with Pete (SIO3) lately?
  23. I took the yak out to Lake Norfork today. I launched at the Pigeon Creek area at about 10 AM. I went up into the creek arm past the bridge. I started trolling a Rapala Shallow Shad Rap along the south side. I had one hit as I rounded the corner to the left way in the back where you can no longer see the bridge. I don't know what it was. I decided to troll across to the other side and head back down to the bridge. I picked up one small white bass on the same bait. This fish hit in about 30' of water. I then trolled down halfway to a good looking little bay. I anchored and made a few casts before deciding to tie on a deeper diving crankbait. I didn't get anything in the bay so I trolled back up the creek arm along the north side of the creek. I turned around at the bend and started trolling back toward the bridge when I caught a nice crappie just before that little bay. I tried trolling a the area a few more times and had a few hits but they got off before I could grab the rod from the holder. It was getting to be around noon when I decided I had enough for one day. The sun was getting a bit intolerable and I was getting tired trying to paddle against the wind. Next time I decide to go out there, I ain't gonna go when it's so hot out. Gonna have to try heading out earlier in the day next time. And I will not forget to bring along some dang crappie jigs so I can cast them into the flooded trees where those crappies seemed to have been!!!!
  24. Sometimes you can get away with it, others you can't. The fine tips of the hackle will set the fly on the water and make the fly look more natural without breaking the surface tension of the water. Trimming the hackles will leave a blunt edge and the hackles will probably penetrate the water surface thus causing the fly to set lower than intended or possibly cause the fly to sink.
  25. If they's walleye's use a nightcrawler on a two or three hook rig. Put a big enough sinker to get to the bottom a few feet ahead of the bait and use a floating jig head with a stinger hook. Minnows should work just as well. You could even use a slip bobber and drift the bait to them. Just make sure you put it in front of their nose cuz they probably won't come up for it. Especially during daylight.
