I have read a few articles about glass rods. Seems they are making a comeback. They are usually slower than carbon fiber (graphite) rods and a lot of people are going back to the idea of slower rods. I have given the idea some thought and might just try a glass rod someday.

Goes with "privatization." When a private entity makes money in this country, it is based on "capitalism."

The only thing I can see with privatization of the hatcheries is the money thing. Eventually, since this is a "capitalist society" the cost of raising the fish will become overwhelming as someone decides they need to become overnight millionaires raising these fish.

If that's all you can afford right now, go for it. My first fly rod was actually a Berkley 8'6" 6/7wt rod that I bought at K-Mart for about $25 back in 1980 something. Not a whole lot of money to lose if you find you're not interested in fly fishing. I still have that rod and when my St. Croix 5wt broke, I had to send it in for repair. I used that old cheap rod and caught a LOT of trout on the White and Norfork.

I enjoy the strike of a swung fly. Just let it drift and then feel the hit. Wakes you up.

Might have something to do with the problems of identification. Some people wouldn't know a spot from a largemouth so they close the season to keep people from keeping largemouth along with the spots they catch.

I am sure that what OB was calling BS on was the part about the education. There has ben plenty of education on this subject. All one need do is pick up a flyfishing mag once in a while and read about it. People here have posted numerous articles on the subject. Some people just don't want to listen, and if they don't, education on the subject will not work.

Just last night I started wondering how we ever survived without cell phones. How did we contact people when we were out driving around? How did we text someone every time a dumb idea popped into our heads? How did we manage to take pictures without those cell phone thingies? How did we play games without cell phones to keep us pre-occupied in between fish biting? How did we listen to music while out on the river? Kinda makes me wish we were still living in the 70's and all we had to worry about was the cops as we lit up to occupy our minds with needless crap.
