  1. I was just there Wednesday. Where were you then?
  2. So now we all understand what everyones position is on naming what stream they were fishing. If it's a large well known stream, then it's ok to name the stream. If it's a drainage ditch with a lot of big smallies, it's ok not to post the name. If you write a post, it's ok not to include pictures although some msmbers will find it boring and sometimes long winded. If I keep posting about Crooked Creek, someday there will be no fish in it. Are we all in agreement so we can close this topic??????
  3. Get rid of the slab. Return Crooked Creek to a free running stream. Take out that dam in Harrison too.
  4. Berkley spinning/casting rods, St. Croix fly rods. Dam_ them yams and sour potatoes. Give me a smashed Idaho potato with some gravy and be done with it. What's more, Idaho's make better French Fries (Freedom Fries for some of you.)
  5. All my reels except for 1 Quantum (which is a piece of crap) and my fly reels, are Shimano. The only problem I have ever had is when they took a dunking in the river. Then they start sticking. I take them home and clean them up and they work just fine. I'm sure if you dunked your Diawa in the river a few times it wouldn't come out feeling brand new either. Oh, maybe at first, for a while, but give it an hour or so and I bet that thing will be sounding like a coffee ginder. I have yet to see a water proof reel. The oil and grease inside don't mix well with H2O.
  6. Never had a problem with Shimano reels unless I got them wet and then a good cleaning was all they needed. Don't use Frog Toggs. I'm not too sure if reports hurt fisheries.
  7. Happy B-Day Wheat... Hope to see ya at the fall float.
  8. Can I get an AMEN on that one?
  9. No you won't and you know it. I'll bet the last time you kept a smallie was when you were a youngster and you cried so hard your grandad let you keep one. Remember, smallmouth taste like sewage.
  10. Man, I can't wait for the OAF Fall Float. With this kind of humor, it has to happen a lot sooner than October.
  11. Can we leave the politics out of fishing???
  12. The water was a lot warmer, at least 20° warmer, than the air temp. I hate the cold. After getting frostbite once, I always get chilled real easy. My feet and hands feel cold all the time. Especially if they are wet.
  13. I didn't see any mistakes. If they are there, they are unforseen without knowing what to look for. I still like what you made. Keep up the good work!!
  14. At 5:30 in the morning it was a little chilly. At least for me, and I'm a yankee from WI. Besides, I didn't feel like getting wet. Breathable waders were just perfect for the situation. Didn't even break a sweat.
  15. Take my daughter and my two grandkids please!!!! Well, maybe not the grandkids...
  16. All the talk of wearing PFD's and this dung still happens.
  17. I actually found the pattern after searching through several magazines. It's called a "Home Invader."
  18. That would be more than appreciated. I can see if the stream is no more than a ditch like some of the trout streams back up in WI that you don't want to post a stream name. But, if it's a well known stream, and sizable stream, I see no problem with naming the stream. Even gotmuddy said he didn't need GPS coordinates, he'd just like to know what the name was.
  19. Can you identify this fly? I believe it was originally tied as a steelhead pattern. The tail is marabou, the collar is fox fur, the wing is sadle hackles and krytal flash. I lost the pattern for this fly and want to tie up some more. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
  20. And yet the forum has places to post on which stream you fished.
  21. 1 year September 3rd.
  22. I got to the stream at about 5:30 this morning. The parking lot was totaly empty. It was dark and I could barely make out the fog forming over the water. I started to put my waders on when I realized I forgot my socks. Dangit. Gonna have to go without cuz I aint driving 25 miles back home to get socks. So I put my waders on and my fishing vest and check to see if I had my license. Oh no. Where did it go? Did I leave that at home too? I started rummaging through the van and finally found it in my wallet. I think to myself; "This is gonna be a great day." Of course I was being sarcastic. I got all my gear ready and headed down to the creek. In the darkness, I could see the water level was lower than I have ever seen it. Is that once deep hole gonna be wadeable now? I start out across the shallow water near the bank and make my first cast. One smallie of aboout 10 inches slams my Tiny Torpedo. I release him and several casts later, I catch another fish. The sun is starting to come up and I can see that the deep water on the other side of the creek is in fact wadeable. I try going up above the bridge to see if I can catch a fish from the same little hole where I caught a fish last week. Nope, couldn't get past that snag because of a HUGE spider. Yes, I hate freaking spiders. So lets try going around on the other side since it is wadeable. Since the sun is getting pretty high in the sky, I decide to take off the Torpedo and tie on a Rapala Shad Rap #7 in a chrome pattern. I venture over to the other side of the creek, and not wanting to spook any fish that might be lying there, I cast up between the bridge pilings and the bank. After just a couple cranks of the reel, another fish on. Wait! This one is bigger than the others. This fish didn't come up and jump, it just tried like the blazes to get into cover and break me off. Didn't happen. I landed that bad boy and got this picture of a nice 18" Crooked Creek smallmouth. "Wow!" I thought to myself. "This creek is so infamous and yet I caught a big smallie from it and I wasn't having to fight for space to fish." Hmmmm... After a couple of photos and releasing him to be caught by a poacher, I began fishing some more. I started to go down creek and thought to myself; "I got my big fish for the day, now I'm gonna go get the light action rod and tone down the size of my lures. I fished for about another hour or so catching several fish in the 8-12" range. Even a small fish fights nice if you have the right tackle. I got down to the end of the park area and decided that it was time to go home.
