Yes, musky will get air, but mostly they will dive for the bottom and pull plenty of drag heading out to deeper water or a snag. If you were to google musky fishing, I'm sure there's got to be a few videos out there. Try YouTube.

Why not use a big humpy for an indicator? If it's legal to use multiple flies, then you offer the fish something else to eat and get hooked on.

I use Lightning Strike indicators. Instead of the toothpick that comes with them, I double my line through the hole (this usually requires a piece of tippet material as a threader), insert a piece of rubber band through the loop made by the leader, and pull the rubber band back into the hole in the indicator. Stays in place pretty well and since the leader is not kinked in the indicator, it does not leave a kink in the leader. This allows me to remove the indicator or slide it up and down the leader without having to cut off the fly and retie.

Several years ago, while fishing from the bank at Pigeon Creek on Lake Norfork, something was spalshing out in the lake. I shined a spotlight on the subject and it was a black bear swimming across the lake. Of course when I shined the light on it, it submerged, and came up about 50 yards or so from me and went into the woods.

Let's nuke the whole planet and be done with it once and for all.

Just wondering if anyone ever fishes the Eleven Point down in Arkansas. If so, where is a decent access? What could one expect for a day of fishing? What species?

Fishing Buffalo/crooked Creek First Week Of May
flytyer57 replied to budman's topic in General Angling Discussion
I would go with 2-3 inch long Clousers. Tie them on any hook size you like so long as the fly is 2-3 inches long. Try sone olive/tan patterns also. This color has been pretty good to me lately using a steelhead tube fly called an "Intruder". I've had luck with poppers any time of day. Give them a try and see if they'll come up for them. Fish the whole water column until you find the fish. They may be up, in the middle or on the bottom. You'll have to figure that out when you get there since the conditions change all the time. If it's been raining and the water is a little stained, I would fish deeper. If water levels are stable and the water is clear, I would not hesitate to try a top water. Clousers and poppers will catch smallies anywhere. Lately I've had my best luck casting to the shady banks as I've been fishing in the afternoon. Not too much luck out in the sunny water. Also, the best retrieve has been to strip the flies rather quickly. I've tried swinging flies in the current, but they don't seem to want them unless they are moving with fast 6" strips. Water levels on both the Crooked and the Buffalo are starting to rise due to the recent rainfall and more rain is forecast for tonight and tomorrow. Keep an eye on those gages and maybe change plans if it get's too high. I haven't fished it yet, but I hear that Sylamore Creek doesn't get as blown out as the Crooked and Buffalo. -
Check out this website about MO Kayak Fishing Tournament And I won't even charge ya for the Google search time of 30 seconds.

Find a nail that will fit inside of an egg sinker, put the nail in, and flatten the sinker with a hammer. Or flatten a bell sinker.

After all that, I was thinking maybe it started raining and that climb up that bank at the end of the float would have been up a slippery muddy bank. Well, you caught some fish, so that should have made it all worth while.

I've always had a problemm finding the right sized jig head with the right size hook. I've looked for lighter jig heads with larger hooks, or larger jig heads with smaller (thinner diameter wire) hooks. I've thought about making my own, but I've ran into problems where the molds won't take the size hooks I'm looking for. There's a company out there now, I think it's Lindy's Little Joe, that makes jigs with interchangable heads. I'm going to have to check them out the next time I get up to Bass Pro. As for a favorite type of head style, it depends on what I'm using. If I use a grub, I like an aspirin or round head. If I'm fishing a crawdad on the bottom, then a football head. Of course if I use a tube, I use a tube style jig. I'm not much into the Arkie style jigs as I don't really fish lakes as much as streams and rivers, although they might have a place in some situations. Another jig I like that I've had a tough time finding is a Slider head jig. They work great when the current is slow enough.

Fishing Buffalo/crooked Creek First Week Of May

Clousers, clousers and more clousers. White over chartruese. A few poppers might not be a bad idea either. Although I prefer Gurglers. Maybe some crawfish patterns. I'd try some Circus Peanuts too. Big streamers. If the waters high, use a sinking or sink tip line and heavy flies to get them down. -
Kinda makes sense about the light. I'll have to try to get some smallies to participate in a study next time I go out and catch a few. If the sun is shining brightly, I'll check to see if they're lighter colored, and if the sun goes behind clouds, or if they are caught in the shade, I'll look to see if they are darker.

The rivers I fished back up in Wisconsin all had a tannin stain to them, but all the fish had differing colors like Al posted. Down here in Arkansas, I've fished the Buffalo and Crooked Creek. Gin clear water, but still the same color mix as back up north. I think it has more to do with their surroundings. Around grass, they're greener. Around rocks and logs, they're more camoflaged. If they've been out in open water, they usually have lighter shades.

Me ,I like the BIG ones.

That drive down to the launch is pretty steep. There's a bunch of big rocks at the bottom of the launch that would prevent launching in low water, and in high water, the water will be coming so fast that it will sweep your boat, trailer and tow vehicle downstream in a hurry. Speaking of which, has anybody ever noticed the cars up on the bank, upstream and across from the launch? I was just wondering how they came to be there.

I don't feel like joining the photobucket crowd. How can I see pics of this boat without signing up?

Anyone Fished The Black Hills?
flytyer57 replied to Outside Bend's topic in General Flyfishing Topics
I Googled "black hills fly fishing" and came up with a link for a fly shop up there. Might want to give them a call or stop in. They should be able to help you out. Their website also looks very helpful. Dakota Angler & Outfitter -
The depth and action of a crankbait is controled by it's design. As an angler, you could use a smaller diameter line to increase depth and use a lite wire snap (not snap swivel) instead of the split ring for better action. Changing the factory hooks to lite wire hooks may also help. Other than that, you start getting into shaving the lips making them thinner, or sanding the lure body itself. I've never personally got into modifying crankbaits as it seems more of a problem than what I need. Remove too much off a lip and the crankbait could be ruined. Same goes for sanding the bodies. To me, there are enough different styles of crankbaits out there that will do the job I'm looking for. Or better yet, take up fly fishing and tying your own flies to do what you want them to do.

Need Help With A Accidental (Stupid) Download
flytyer57 replied to jjtroutbum's topic in General Chat
I tried to Google that "4you.exe" and there may be something missing from that file extension name. You could try to Google it and see if there's any info out there on how to resolve the issue. You could also try to search your computer for it and try to delete it. I would do the Google thing first. I've had pretty good luck in the past finding out what certain file extensions were by typing the name into Google. If you have problems Googling, find the full name of the file and I'll try to help from this end. -
I took a drive over to Kelly's Slab to check up on the progress over there. It doesn't look like anything has been done since that article was written. The bridge appears to be done, but there's a rope across it so ya can't use it. It doesn't look like there's much of a road on the other side either. Saw 1 guy fishing from the slab, and a couple of guys getting ready to launch a canoe. Didn't stop to ask if anybody was catching anything since I was running late for dinner. When the middle of the slab is out, it looks like there should be plenty of room to get a drift boat through there.

Are we ever going to see some pics of these fish?
