Need Help With A Accidental (Stupid) Download
flytyer57 replied to jjtroutbum's topic in General Chat
Glad to hear ya got it fixed. I use Yahoo Mail, and today I got an e-mail that Yahoo listed as "Spam." It was about some undeliverable e-mail. I started wondering what mail was undeliverable, so I opened it. I still have no idea what it was about, since it appears to have been sent by someone named Nancy, and I sure ain't no Nancy. I'm just hoping now that it doesn't turn out to be some type of viral infection crap. Anybody have any info on these types of e-mails? -
I'm no fish biologist, but I think it's a green sunfish. Here's a pic I took last year of a green sunfish caught at Yellville. Not much difference except for the bright colors in the fins.

That's the one. Down Marion County Road 7036/7033 I believe. Mostly gravel roads a mile or so after you get off 101.

New Utah Law May Devastate The Fishing Industry

Thanks for that clarification Al. Now, what does anyone know about Arknasas access laws????????? -
I managed to get out to the lower access today. Caught a spot, a couple of smallies and a mess of sunfish and a lot of nice weather to enjoy the day.

New Utah Law May Devastate The Fishing Industry

From what I have read over the years regarding this topic usually ends up with the courts deciding on what the founders of each state had in mind when it comes to our access rights. There was the commerce rulings as you have stated and then there was what they called "navigability." Those two usually went hand in hand. If a river was navigable to commerce, then it was open to access for all. Now the question that alway comes up is; "What is navigable?" Most states have decided that back in the days, if a trapper could float a canoe down the stream, then it was considered "navigable." These days we see court battles saying that a stream is not "navigable" because there's no way in hell a supertanker could navigate the stream. It's totally rediculous of course, but some land owners try to close streams for just that purpose, saying that it is no longer navigable by todays standards. That is why we have the court system to decide what is navigable. And since the courts are not allowed to write law, only interperet them, they usually use the old trapper and his canoe theory. But that may and can change if we are not vigilent. We as anglers must always be aware of what is happening when it comes to access rights and we must fight for them or some day we will no longer have them. -

I don't live in MO and I haven't been here in AR long enough to know the laws of either state very well, or the history behind them. What I do know is that unless the state constitution provides for access to the waters of the state to the people of the state, then the law makers can change the laws regarding access at any time. If the property rights people get enough votes to go their way, and the courts uphold it, you may no longer have the access that you are used to. In WI where I am originally from, the state constitution clearly states that the waters (and the lake/stream bottoms) belong to the people. No lawmaker can take that away unless a bill is written and then it has to pass both houses and something like 2 consecutive terms (years) whatever. I ain't no lawyerin' type, but I do know that to get the state constitution changed, it would be one hell of an uphill struggle. -
Well, I fished the lower access today. Just about got skunked. I hooked one nice smallmouth and landed two rock bass. The water here was higher than I hoped for and it was flowing pretty good. Reminder to self, next time the gauge says somewhere around 600 cfs, take the spinning rod and don't expect to wade too far. There's no rain in the forcast for next week, so the water levels should drop quite considerably. Only problem is, I'll be in Little Rock. If it should continue with the nice weather, maybe I can hit it again the following week.

I took a drive out to Harrison today and drove over Crooked Creek @ Pyatt. The water levels looked like they were down quite a bit. Seen a couple cars parked down there but didn't see anyone fishing. I stopped @ the park in Yellville. The water there looked like it was just about wadeable. The gage @ Kelly's Slab says it's flowing @ 629 cfs. A bit fast, but by tomorrow... I'll be fishin' Crooked Creek tomorrow. Then Sunday I go to Little Rock. No more fishin' for a while.

Check the state regs before ya dump anything. Could get a nice fine for polluting.

First of all, I don't think "whizzing" over the side of the boat is a good idea. Anywhere. I won't get into the politics of what gets put into our waters, but the idea of exposing ones self out there just ain't what an ordinary intelligent person would be caught doing. As far as being put on the "sex offenders" list, what did this knucklehead do? Expose himself to some 13 year old and try to explain it away that he was just "whizzing?"

And that is why it is so hard to drive around here. Little old ladies driving 25mph in a 40mph zone. I'm moving to Little Rock to start work Monday. The few trips I made down there, people seem to drive a lot better. I just don't know how the fishing is yet. Gonna have to spend a lot of gas money to come back up here to the Mountain Home area just to go fishing.

The sorry thing is, if the "property rights" people keep winning all the court cases having to do with fishing access, we may all end up having to pay to fish "their water." Keep the waterways free!!!! -
Here is what the AGFC has for the identification of gar. Gar ID Scroll down some to see gar. Hope this helps.

In case you don't have it, here's the link to the river gage at Hwy 14. Buffalo River

Drove over the Buffalo yesterday at Hwy 14. It's very high and running fast. Keep an eye on the guages.

Switch over to fly fishing. Only gotta worry about a short leader and not a whole spool of coils. -
Article says the bridge is complete. The picture included shows plenty of work to be done on the banks to stabilize the bridge so the banks don't wash away during high water. Does anyone know where the access will be located? Used to park in the lot across the slab, but if they're taking that out, will they also take out the parking area? That Center is a bit of a hike to the creek for someone with bad knees and hips.

As always, if you're looking for quality not quantity, use bigger lures. Tends to keep the smaller ones away.

Dude has a major malfunction. While many of us fishermen/women in this country are fighting for access rights to rivers, he's becoming one of those who would deny us access. When I lived in Wisconsin, I would fish the Milwaukee River for smallmouth. On nice days, there were plenty of canoers and kayakers floating the river. (It's not a whitewater rafting scene. Too mellow of a river.) If I was fishing the left bank, the rafters would almost always move to the right. There were a few that would come straight down the river, and a polite explanation of river etiquette would always be returned with an appology. Here in Arkansas, while kayay fishing the Buffalo, the few times I've had the chance, all the canoers and fellow kayakers would give me plenty of space to fish. Not once did my errant back casts come close to them for the distance they kept. If the clowns in this article would learn to live with each other, there probably wouldn't be the hostilities that they see. The states give us the right to float and fish the rivers, and no-one should be allowed to take what little rights we do have away. Not even some Dude with a Dude Ranch for fishing. -
Doing a quick search on the rod, it sells for about $180 new. The reel sells for about $120 new. I have no personal experience with this equipment but the prices seem fair. I would do a search and check them out to see if they offer what you are looking for in a rod and reel. Here's a link for the rod. Temple Fork Outfitters Sorry, I couldn't find that reel at Teton. Their site wasn't too friendly to me. There are links out there for those reels at Google.
