Curious, Did you catch your largemouth on jigs as well. I fished fellows Thursday, With the water temp hovering in the 50s I figured there would be a good wiggle wart bite, but only managed to catch 1. Wind was a problem as I couldn't fish points that I wanted and finially got the best of me.

Springfield Lake, 1-2-10
luckycraft replied to smallmouthjoe's topic in Fellows Lake, Springfield Lake, McDaniels Lake
Any idea what the temperature is running in the main lake this time of year. I would guess if they are biting on crank baits it would be in the 50s, just curious. I was up there on Saturday doing a little fishing, throwing stick baits. The only taker was a blue gill. I am always amazed at what those fish go after. -
Fellows 12/31/10
luckycraft replied to nitro96's topic in Fellows Lake, Springfield Lake, McDaniels Lake
Interested what branch you were fishing. I was thinking about heading up there but that 38 degree water might deour me. With water that could, I don't know if I could be patient enough to work a stick bait or not. Have you caught any walleye in the winter months on stickbaits? -
Haven't been on the forum for awhile as work has been really hectic. I haven't fished nor can remember what it feels like to catch a fish anymore. I am heading to Kenai AK for the red run, hopefully this will cure my itch to catch a fish. I was just wondering if anyone has a bass fishing report for any of the local springfield lakes. Anything would be apreciated. Thanks, Mike

Trade Fishing Trip.
luckycraft replied to nitro96's topic in Fellows Lake, Springfield Lake, McDaniels Lake
My Schedule is crazy because I have a full time job and a part time job. I fish Springfield lake and fellows with the same boat, but would consider this trade. I have to do some upgrading on my boat and this may take me awhile. -
Put in at Fellows early this am. Beautiful morning with a slight haze and little breeze. Figured a good spinner bait or buzz bait bite would be on this morning. Boy was I wrong. Through this pattern for about 1 hr and nothing. I went back to old reliable and started throwing a jig. Found bass patterned off the bank 30 feet or so suspended. Some were hitting the jig on the fall and others were taking it with slow twitches off the bottom. I was catching bass well with a jig when bass started blowing shad up on the lake side of the boat. Tied on a buzz bait, and started walking the dog. Caught 3 fish fast off this technique and then back to the jig. Caught about 6 shorts and 2 keeper sized fish. 1 fish weighed 4 pounds, best fish i have boated in Fellows. Hope this helps fellow anglers out there. Mike

Fellows Lake
luckycraft replied to luckycraft's topic in Fellows Lake, Springfield Lake, McDaniels Lake
With the wind and little bit of work I had to do on Suday, I opted to go to lake springfield. Anyone fish out at Fellows over the weekend and how did it go. I know some of you fished out there, just curious if it was worthwhile fishing?? -
I Fished Springfield lake thursday and again on Sunday. Shad were everywhere. I threw a buzz bait, spook, squarebill, rattle trap, Spinnerbait, crankbait to no avail. I managed to boat one fish on each day on a jig. I have been out to springfield lake and had tremendous days on spinner baits and jigs. I have been having a difficult time this year being anything close to productive. Just wondering if the fishing is bad at the lake or my fishing is bad. Anyone having any luck other than a 1-2 fish here and there. Mike

Over the last couple of years, I have heard countless number of times, Pomme is going to have a lot of keeper sized fish with all these 12 inchers we have. It will just take about a year or 2. Well I am still catching a lot of 12 inchers. Was just wondering if these fish are stunted at all. Anyone else Agree?

I haven't been out at Fellows in a few weeks and nobody has posted anything. Was just wondering if fishing is really good and nobody has said anything or it is really bad with the high water. Just wondering, might have to go check it out myself and post something later. Good luck to all. Mike

Sprinfield Lake Wed Morn Report
luckycraft replied to Predator1's topic in Fellows Lake, Springfield Lake, McDaniels Lake
Very Nice Fish, I fished out at Springfield lake and the water was that same milky greenish hue as in the picture. Shad were popping everywhere. I am embarrassed to say that i did not have a popper or a spook in the arsonal. I threw a buzz bait to no avail. I switched to a jig and stated flipping the banks. Managed to boat 2 fish that were about 2 pounds. Not the best day on the lake but any day on the water is a good day. -
Fellow Lake Rental Question
luckycraft replied to Clark's topic in Fellows Lake, Springfield Lake, McDaniels Lake
I believe that the motor limit on fellows is 40hp. Just to share with you all -
The james at 65 and 60 in springfield looks more like a chocolate shake. High and angy with a lot of debride floating around. I would wait to fish the james and see if it clears up. I like to fish stained water but not muddy water.

Ah, you got to love the rock throwers when you are out fishing. I understand that lakes are made for a variety of recreational activity, but what happened to common curtousy. Just a quick note on a similar subject. I was out fishing in a cove that was shared by some families, kids were throwing rocks and i let it go, but when one shouted 5$ to the first to hit his boat, I got a little steamed. Packed up shop and headed out. What is wrong with people these days?

Thanks for the report. That is a variety of fish that you hung today. I was in full rain gear in route to get the boat today but a front dropped a bunch of rain and i chickened out and turned on the weather channel to hear the majority of the front had moved through. I felt dumb but the nap felt good. just wondering what you were throwing at stockton. with the blue gill that you caught, were you throwing small baits?

Hey Trav, With rising waters will bass pull back up into the brush and bushes. Was wodering if they would be on to a gitzit or other plastic in the shallows, or is my thinking wrong? Thanks Mike

Springfield Lake Crappie
luckycraft replied to ric lee's topic in Fellows Lake, Springfield Lake, McDaniels Lake
I don't usually fish for crappie, But I was near the tracks fishing for bass and hung a 12 inch crappie on a 5/8 oz spinner bait. Not the typical tackle for crappie. I took a picture with my phone and back in the drink she went. -
Going To Fellows Lake...
luckycraft replied to Bill Y.'s topic in Fellows Lake, Springfield Lake, McDaniels Lake
I have fished Fellows Lake for about 3 years now, and have found even the bass fishing to be spotty at times. I have hooked 1 muskey there which was about 17 inches long and about the size of a hammer handle. Of course I wasn't targeting them, but I don't know if I would travel (I take it from the post above that you are driving a ways) to fellows to target muskey. Good luck to all. Looks like the weekend might be wet. -
Fellows Lake
luckycraft replied to luckycraft's topic in Fellows Lake, Springfield Lake, McDaniels Lake
Fished Fellows again today. Faught the wind the majority of the morning, threw a spinner bait early but nothing. Threw a crank bait, and nothing. Switched over to a jig and caught 2 14 inchers. One came when I was on the cell phone, picked it up and bam fish on. Maybe I wasn't letting it sit long enough. Wind beat me off the lake by 1 pm. Good luck to all. -
Thanks

I have been fishing all my life and hope that I have climbed up the rank to be a novice. I am in interesed in fishing the lower taney neer forsyth above the power site dam and may motor all the way to rockaway beach and float/troll my way back. I like to fish for bass. Will I be wasting my time by doing this, and/or should go some place else. I don't mind catching trout, but Bass fishing is my passion. Help would be appeciated. Thanks, Mike

I know bass will bite a stickbait all year round, but I never think to take it out of my tackle box when water temp is above 55. I was just curious what your pattern was on pomme. What did you catch most of your fish on. Are they hitting crankbaits or spinner baits? Thanks, Mike

I haven't been out to Springfield Lake for a few weeks. Just wondering if anyone had a report that they would like to share. Particulary interested in bass fishing. All the help would be appreciated. Thanks.
