    Mayflies

Thanks, I must have not been in the right place at the right time because that was a first for me.

    Mayflies

We were anchored and night fishing Thursday night and the Mayflies started hatching all around us. They were floating on the surface as far as we could see. I have been fishing Stockton for many years and have never seen that here. I thought that happened more farther north. Is that common for this area?
  3. Caught this one several years ago
  4. That was a battle. Had only been trolling about 5 minutes when it hit.
  5. I tried cubing the fillets and boiling them with Old Bay seasoning added to the water. Then dipping them in cocktail sauce. I prefer coating them with yellow cornmeal and Tony Chachere's Creole seasoning and deep frying them.
  6. Started at Stockton State Park Marina and trolled towards the dam.
  7. Caught these fish trolling Bandits from 7:00 am till noon in about 20' of water.
  8. I e-mailed the MDC to find out if they were going to put in any new brush piles close to Stockton State Park and they replied and sent me the coordinates for 35 new brush piles in the Masters and Cedar ridge area. I thought some of you would like to have this info. Stockton Lake brush piles 2017.xlsx
  9. Years ago I caught a lot of trout trolling spoons in this area. Going to be fishing this area in a few days and I'm looking for a few pointers to catch some fish this time of year.
  10. I netted a 32" walleye for an older man around 1990 in Turnback Creek. We saw him the next day and He said it weighed 12 lbs and it tasted good.
  11. Thanks for all your help.
  12. Is there anyplace to rent a boat at Rockaway Beach or Forsyth? Years ago I used to rent boats at both places, but nothing is coming up when I google it.
  13. Went yesterday. Bluebird day, barely a ripple on the water. Trolled Flicker shads for awhile, no luck. Switched to Fat Free shads to get deeper, tried different amounts of line out and different speeds. Gave up and went back to the dock and caught enough Bluegill to have some fish to eat.
  14. Thanks for the info. We are going Saturday. I will post how we do.
  15. I was wondering how deep do you normally troll this time of year? I have tried trolling crank baits this time of year without much success. Do you try to tick the bottom when going across point? Thanks for any info.
  16. Blue catfish have never been documented in Stockton Lake. I have received a few reports from conservation agents saying anglers thought they have caught blue catfish and upon inspection, they were just channel catfish on the larger size that were washed out in color (6+ pounds). I have also received a few pictures the last few years from anglers which they thought were blues and they were actually channels. If you have a picture or a specimen that you believe to be a blue catfish, feel free to contact me to take a look at it. 17. I was at Stockton State Park and the surface temp was 80 to 82 degrees.
  18. straw hat, do you fish that double hook rig straight down or cast it out. Also I was wondering if the weight was below or above the hooks?
  19. I was looking for white bass way up Sons Creek 3 or 4 years ago and came up on a nice looking pool of water. I cast out and hooked a smallmouth. When I got the Bass in right next to me an Otter grabbed it. I yelled at the Otter and it let go then grabbed it again. I yelled at it again and it let go and swam off. The fish was still alive and was released, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the Otter was able to get it anyway since it was hurt. I think restocking the Otters into our rivers was a big mistake.
  20. Thanks for the advice, I'll give it a try.
  21. Where would be a good place to anchor and put out some lights, pretty close to Stockton State Park marina and have a chance to catch some Crappie and White Bass? I keep my pontoon boat at the marina and I’m still trying to learn this part of the lake.
  22. I didn't think we had bluecat in Stockton lake, so I e-mailed Dale Cornelius, the Fisheries Management Biologist for Cedar, Dade, and Polk counties and this was his response. As far as I know there has never been a bluecat caught from Stockton Lake. But, I wouldn’t go as far as to say there are none. Bluecats were historically present in the Osage River watershed before the tributaries were impounded so it is a mystery to me (and others) why they have not shown up in Stockton or Pomme de Terre Lakes. I have be told by fairly reliable sources that bluecats have been caught in Pomme, but those were never verified by a biologist. Often anglers will mis-identify a large male channel catfish as being a bluecat because of their similar coloration. Thanks for your interest!
