Very nice Jerry! Checked the floor plan out, looks like there is ton of space in there. Also noticed you don't have to fold out the beds. That will be nice for winter fishing, much warmer!

Regs, need some explanation s and definitions
brittsnbirds replied to Gatorjet's topic in Bennett Springs State Park
Just grab some corn and power bait, your lawn chair and a cooler and head to zone 3. It's that simple!! -
I quit buying the 2499's due to the price increase. Charlie turned me onto another hook that is pretty nice but can't remember it. Much cheaper and do a good job of hooking up.

Sweet!!

Hey Jerry what year is your 1500? I've got a set of Cipa (I think) mirror extensions from my '03 1500 I will part with. Guarantee the price is right!! Upstream, I was going to try and get away the last week of April some time. DW is going to Texas to see Bonnie Rait in concert and I will be home alone. But I found out that is one of my on call weeks. May have to see if one of my guys will swap with me a few days.

That little fly looks very familiar by a different name??? Love that 2499SPBL, it is a hooking beast.

Well zone 2 was the place to be. However above the dam using nolucks suggestion slammed them as well. Couldn't find the concrete but the area still produced. Caught bigger fish up there. Tried stripping for a while with no success. The hole above the dam is now 2 holes. Has a sandbar running through the middle to the dam almost. Cant wait to see how that is going to work with guys back casts over the other hole!!

caught 30 or 40 in zone 2. lots of dinks. many small browns. back to trailer to grab lunch and the drizzle started, crap. will wait till later this PM and try it again. thanks to noluck for the tip (wink, wink)!!

I'm here. had some rain last night but not too much. water is fairly clear and swift. 30% chance of pm rains high of 66 today. Right now it's overcast and cloudy. fishing is tough.

Well Upstream, NoLuck and rcguy I'm going to give it a go. Managed to swing a couple days away from the "rat race". Danny and I are going to give it a try for a couple of days. At least shake the 5th wheel after the winter sleep.

Thanks for the info onshot! No one else is posting so I guess everything is good? We have the same fire restrictions up here in Cass County. I've got a ton of brush to burn but it's not worth it!!

I'm just impatient this time of year. They left a pretty last shot of the snow that we missed up around KCMO. All we got was a little bit and some ice.

Come on guys fix the trout cam. It's the only release that I have at work!!

Darn hate to hear you had to take it easy for a day or so!! Well did you get to fish. I wish I could of had that for a Xmas gift. Yakking and blowing out the other end at the same time isn't my kind of Xmas. 3 out of 5 of us had it. I got it first then my daughters boyfriend then my wife. Some of the most violent stuff I have ever had. No Upstream it wasn't the bottle flu either. Haven't been in that game for a while!! BTW you hosers, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Bennett Spring News (video)
brittsnbirds replied to Phil Lilley's topic in Bennett Springs State Park
Well that's a first for me. Actually saw the Hatchery Manager doing a on camera interview. I like the fact that he told us something about what happens to the fish and what he does to get back to the task of raising fish!! Good Job! -
Anybody going closing weekend
brittsnbirds replied to upstream's topic in Bennett Springs State Park
Still have a couple days left that I might be able to sneak away but will have to be C & R. I'll use Danny as my excuse to get out, tell DW that I feel bad that I didn't get to take him this year. Haven't winterized the 5'er yet. Only takes me an hour if that to get it done. It's basically ready to go. -

Taking Boys to Bennett Spirngs--Questions??

Just a dig upstream!! I'm the grumpy one for sure (there I said it first step in rehab). As far as the stringer goes, one stringer per tag. No you cannot share a stringer they have to be separate. If you leave your stringer attached to a root or a rock at the side of the stream the stringer has to be identified (name, phone number etc). Just keep it attached to the person who has it and you'll be golden. As far as storage, after you clean them a zip lock jumbo or large bag, 4 fish per with the tag attached/inside no more than 8 per angler. Cannot fish if your maxed out so short yourself to 3 and 7 you will be able to continue to fish past 2 days. Large cooler with plenty of ice. If your staying at Larry's or one of the others they may have a freezer that you can use to freeze the fish. That should keep you out of trouble. BTW keep an eye on the 12 yoa boy, sometimes there are some female species down there. I know at that age I would be distracted. Have fun!! -
Taking Boys to Bennett Spirngs--Questions??
brittsnbirds replied to doosanman's topic in Bennett Springs State Park
I was down there this past week for 4 days through the weekend. The park was FULL on the weekend. Ton's of people/family's made it a little crowded. With that many people you have to be aware of your surroundings. Adults and kids can get hurt if they don't pay attention. Either by the knuckle head speedsters in the parking lot or by a hook to the head from a fly fishermen. If your not familiar with trout fishing let alone the way things are at Bennett you need to pay special attention. With the weekend crowd I witnessed several occasions where parents had to grab their kids or yell at them when they started to walk out in front of a car/truck. I wish people would realize down there that it is not a Park as the name implies. It's a fishing facility that has many roads running through it. As NoLuck said PLEASE be aware of the fly fishermen. Our back cast can be a long ways behind us. We try to position ourselves so we don't hook up with trees and brush as well as pay attention to those spectators who don't. One of our biggest complaints is about the spectator that walks directly behind us watching us fish. We make our drift, pick up our line, make the backcast and "bam" we hooked a big "lookylou". If you plan on wading also be mindful that rocks are slippery, and there are hidden holes that even the seasoned wader can get hung up in. If you go down with waders on and they fill up with water it could be a life changing adventure. Also keep in mind the limit is 4 with possession of 8. That means if you keep fish nothing more than 4 a day per tag. When you catch your 3rd fishlet the others go until your ready to quit. That way you can continue to fish the rest of the day. Good Luck, if you have questions just ask someone everyone is very friendly except a old coot they call "upstream"! -
The good, the bad, and the ugly!
brittsnbirds replied to ALLSTAR1's topic in Bennett Springs State Park
I agree with you GWH. You would think when the majority of people this time of year are adults that the restrooms would be in a little better shape. I know they suffer dramatically up in the CG's due to kids. The rest room by the Holland dam suffers from a wet floor and leaves/grass tracked in due to waders. That makes it a little sloppy. I have noticed boot prints on the toilet and urinal. No call for that! As far as bad shot's and not flushing "come on guys" lets do our part!! Wish they had more money to dedicate a janitor for just the poopers but I suspect that isn't the only job they have assigned. As far as the fish cleaning stations, it was a hot topic several years ago. If I'm not mistaken RRSP got one as well as Montauk. Maybe if they would have put some of the money towards the cleaning stations that they used on the DIDMO cleaning stations (that aren't used) we might have one more!! I don't know if you have noticed but the park is not as "pristine" as it use to be. they don't cut the grass as often and a number of trash cans have gone away. Try to do my part and pick up trash as I meander through. If we all had the mentality of "leave it cleaner than you found it" that would help. I try to pick up where I camp, park, fish or walk. -
I have 2 metal (sheet metal) dog houses and a modular chain link dog kennel (approximately 14'x16') as well as a Tri Tronics dual dog beeper collars for sale. I think the TT are the "upland" specials. I only used the collars and beepers 3 season's. The dog houses were used with my Britts. If your interested hit me a PM and I'll get back to you.
