  1. 10pointer- Which hill? I found one down stream at a turn in the blacktop just before pulling onto a gravel road (path) to go down towards the old school and Parker's cross. I only had 1 bar on my Nokia though. Would like to know a more reliable location when I go down next time. I don't like to spend my time searching for a tower when I could be fishing!!
  2. No permit required for C&R. You just need the state trout stamp and a fishing license. That's the sweet part about C&R. Plus if the park is closed, don't let that stop you. Jump into the Niangua anywhere just above or below the Bennet. I've caught some nice trout, smally's and goggle eye. Actually it's a nice change of pace. I did good with a little crawdad colored cranbait and stripped wooly's on my flyrod!
  3. Thanks for the info. I don't know why I haven't heard of the Davy knot by now. I've been looking for a quick, secure and easy to tie knot. The next question I have is what is a good quick knot (like the Davy) that you can use for tippet to leader? Including flourocarbon to poly. I've been trying to use the double surgeon's but seem to fight it on the stream.
  4. Does Alltel give service in the KCMO area? Also do they provide service at Montauk? My AT&T/Cingular Nokia has been getting service for the past 2 years at BSP and other southern areas except Montauk.
  5. I was the only one in the hole just above the bridge/below the dam till approximately 0930. Then another guy and I had it for another hour. Oh did I mention they did sound the siren. I was standing up on the bridge admiring the view of my private stream. Later in the day I counted some where around 30 other fisherman throughout the park. The only thing that was closed was the store.
  6. Up here South of KC we had frezzing rain, w/ a little drizzle from about 1100 through the rest of the day/night. Got up this AM and the snow was starting. Looks like it is picking up a little. Roads were very slushy last night when I ran out to salt the Mother in laws and mom's drive. Looks like the county roads are still ice/snow covered. The wife took off with my Chevy (4-wheel) for some appointments. She tried to get me to go but I've got some tying to do. Her parting words were "don't hold it against me if I wreck your truck". My words were something like "if you do then I guess an '07, 4 door is in my future!" I was even thinking about making a day trip down to BSP.
  7. Maybe an 'old fogey' but dead on. I'll hoist one to that.
  8. Shallow, inches deep, narrow or small at least that is what I always called it.
  9. I was at a Seminar this past summer. Our instructors were from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. They advised their laws are so lax that a life sentance in Canada is no more than 12 years, period! Hopefully there will be enough people watching that something serious will happen. You know back in the day if you sent a sex offender or child abductor to prison his life expenctancy was short. Today it's different, the prison's are full of them!
  10. Good point Thom! You know Ron White said it best "in Texas not only do we have the death penalty, we put in an express lane!" At one time Texas actually had the lowest rate of violent crimes! An old Copper told me once, Dead men tell no tales, and you only pay for them once to put them in the ground. Rather than paying for them the rest of their and our lives!
  11. mcp633- I noticed that our Kirkwood boys did it! That just goes to show how good Police work and quick thinking will prevail over the bad guys. Once in a while WE win!! Now the biggest problem is the process. There shouldn't be any at all! Take the no good SOB out and let the family's have their way with him then burn him! I'm sorry for those of you who don't believe in my thoughts but I've been a cop 20 years plus and have seen some bad stuff. When it comes to kids, well all the rules go out the window!
  12. Looks like a gold headed glo ball! Instead of a jig use a gold bead then tie your yarn on and viola.
  13. Steve, I second the motion. In fact I'll donate the diesel, loader and plot! mcp633, I sent you a personal message!
  14. Whatever you do call them (shoe dept.) before you go over. They didn't have them when I was there after Christmas. I too was in the market to upgrade. I spoke with a couple of guys in the fly shop at Cabelas about waders. They both highly recommended gore-tex. I asked them which brand they recommended thinking they would tell me Cabelas. They both told me Simms. With nothing on hand I ran over to K & K Flyfishers (http://www.kkflyfisher.com/) at 87th and Grant in Lenexa. They sold me a pair of Simms L2's that they fit for me. I spent 4 days at BSP in them and cannot believe I have fished for so many years without them! I highly recommend them and also recommend K & K. Plus it isn't as far from my Cass County home!
  15. I was down for 4 days just after Christmas. It rained part of the time and didn't appear to have slowed down the fish. On 1-1-07 (Monday) I seemed to be the only one on the river from 0800 to 0930. Fishing was outstanding. If you are drifting a skud or nymph definately go under the bridge and hit that hole. Then try sight fishing the skinny water below the bridge. There's a nice little (football) brown trout in the skinny water I caught 2 times. There's also a nice smally in the hole under the bridge. Like an old timer told me. If you don't know what to fish at BSP just make sure it's green.
  16. I've held out long enough. I agree to a certain degree with fishinwrench but.......... When I was at BSP over the holidays I caught a ton of fish using a pinch on foam float over a green streamer/midge that I tie. I caught some in the skinny water sight fishing but in the deep cuts the indicator was the only way to go. I fished right next to a guy who was using a similar (color & pattern) fly. I was catching 3 or 4 to one more fish than he was. I believe indicators have their place as another device or tool to catche trout. Just like using flourocarbon over regular tippet. As far as floats go, my preferance are the round balls with the rubber band or white pinch on, depending on the fly and conditions!
  17. Terry, Thanks for the site URL. I checked it out on my other computer (work). Downloaded several of the segments. How can I copy them over to a Zip strip? Tried to play them on my wife's MAC laptop at home but it said something about not support it for some reason. Thanks again, good stuff. By the way. I've still got that little Savage S/S 12-20.
  18. drew03cmc- FYI while I was at BSP this past weekend, along with catching a tone of fish, I also caught a nice smally under the bridge on a streamer. He sure fought different. I actually thought I had another brown on until I noticed that "red" eye glaring at me!
  19. Actually the water flow was better this past weekend. It rained Saturday and night then a little Sunday. But the water is definately stained.
  20. My biggest problem with whip finishing with my fingers is, they at times are so rough it snags the thread. Unless I'm doing it wrong I would prefer using my fingers as it saves time.
  21. While I was down at BSP this past weekend I noticed a track hoe setting by the hatchery outlet. Another gentleman asked me what it was for. I didn't see any open holes. Hopefully they are not planning on dredging. I was wondering if anyone had any info? Plus, I wonder when they are going to get started on that cleaning station?
  22. Sorry that I wasn't able to give you a report before you left. But, I was down there on Friday. My wife gave me a green light so what the heck. I finally made it home last night. Friday I caught 30 or so using various midges, green, pemrose, red and white. Plus an occasional streamer. Saturday it was tougher with rain, plus I was trying some other things, dry's and crackles. Sunday better day, worked places I don't normally fish. Yesterday I caught 50 or so on a streamer pattern. All in all it was a great trip. Yesterday was the best though. Very few people were there.
  23. I've got 2 pair of clips from Wally World. One gray and one brown, both are polarized. They work ok but do get scratched up pretty easy. The biggest problem is no side shields. I'm thinking about going to the Cacoon's but can't find any the fit over my glasses very well. Out of curosity, what color does everyone prefer? I was using gray, but heard the amber or brown worked better overall. I tried both and think the amber are a little better. Any thoughts?
  24. It never ceases to amaze me at what I learn and the different ideas there are. Here goes my Super Crackle. I got this from a local at BSP. He gave me a crackle he tied on what appeared to be a size 10 crappie hook. It was with brown furnace hackle and copper body. I ended up tieing it with a size 10 or 12, 2x down turned eye. It is usually my start out fly anytime of the day. I use the sweep with full sinking line. Once it makes it's turn if I haven't had my TFO ripped out of my hand, I just let it sink and set there. There has been many times while I waited, daydreaming, letting the thing lay on bottom and they nail it. If not then they tear it up as I strip it through the moss. I tie this big feller in as many combinations as I can think of. I've started using some Olive green hackle with several body colors. I've been using this braided material (can't remember name) for the body lately. It makes a great flash. If they aren't interested in the big boy I start downsizing. But believe me the big one has been tearing them up for me.
  25. Terry to answer you question about my S/S. The barrels are 26" one 12 and one 20 ga. Yes they swap out very nicely. I use the 12 set for Pheasants and the 20 for Quail. I also have a American Arms Silver II O/U 12 ga. w/ tubes. It's looking for a new home and I would part with Stoeger also. Back to the original post. Steve, I know the type of line that you use also makes a big differance with the castability and handling. I nymph, dry and deep water strip with my rods. I have several reels that I interchange with specific lines. Such as my Cabelas 5 wt 8'6 rod I have a Prestige reel set up with full sinking, tip sink and floating line. My TFO 4 wt. 9' have floating and tip sink. My Cabelas 8' 3wt. I have floating line for Nymph and small stream dry fly fishing. However each line manufacturer has a specific type, what should I look for if I can't "test drive" them. Plus some of them are rather expensive!
