  1. The cloud must have stopped at your house, it was a very light rain in town.
  2. From what I have read in the past and people I have talked with live bait is the way to go. I have hooked a lot of 15-20 pound flat heads up near shore at night throwing jigs for bass so I know the big cats come up shallow at night. I would suggest throwing a cast net for small sunfish or as the the locals say do some "perch jerking" for bait. On the easier side live gold fish are popular but not sure if the are environmentally friendly. I have hooked some real monsters up around PC, but again was not looking for them but they hit live shad in the 6 to 8 inch range in the early spring, so don't give up there are monster cats in the lake for sure. Limb lines are better for the big ones than jugs, I have been told.
  3. Better time of year for a snorkel and fins rather than a pole.
  4. Warning on the Bella Vista area, it is not the country!! If you park your boat on the grass or pull in a RV to the side yard those types of activities will get the police called out on you. Even in Rogers I parked my truck on the grass instead of parking in the street to make room for family on the 4th of July and the police showed up on the 4th of July. Just read all the POA rules in Bella Vista and insure that is what you want and yes owning property in Bella Vista will get you access to the lakes as long as you pay your dues but there are extra charges to put you boat on the lake even if the lake is in your yard. There are lots of rent a cops running around to keep the rift raft like me out. Did you look out in the PC area? Not a lot of Walmartins out that way, be sure to check the traffic flow around 7:30 am and between 3:30 and 5:00 because the traffic between housing and Walmart home office is really bad in some areas. Most of my neighbors move across the state line into MO to escape all the taxes, I don't know the big differences but be ready to pay property taxes on your boat, motor and trailer along with any other trailers, cars, trucks along with the house and land. Good luck and welcome.
  5. Did Walmart back out again? They only come to Beaver because of Walmart and when Walmart cuts back they cut Beaver out for better fishing.
  6. 22 Years in the Army and surviving 3 auto rotations and drown proofing the English Channel I have had enough helicopter rides, beats walking I have to admit, but my old back could not take another hard hit. Saw too many old men press their luck and they retired to the VA hospital, that is why I gave it up at 41. Besides it would not be the same without a 60.
  7. That would require a fishing license, plan on sticking to salt water since the tuna are running.
  8. I am heading to Hawaii for a week 3 days on Oahu and 3 days on Maui. No charter trips planned, anyone have any tips for fishing either Island? I saw a guided Kayak trip on Maui that got my attention.
  9. I am convinced that I am getting a minn kota 24V trolling motor and I want the GPS spot lock and trail memory. The problem I have is understanding the different models and upgrades. I see copoilt that can be added and ipolit that can be added and found a great deal on half price ipilot at the outlet store in Springfield. The question I have is what is the difference in the models you can upgrade and the the units that come already equipped? Difference between copilot and ipilot. I am holding out for a return to the Bass Pro Outlet store but I have to be ready when what I want pops up but not sure if I am sure what I want and what I could upgrade or weather an upgraded model is option that would be right. Any help with this would be appreciated except for sending to the minn kota web site, since I have spent a couple hours there getting confused.
  10. Sorry to see you go but on the bright side the will be a lot less big bass with sore lips in Beaver. I might even fish a night tournament again knowing I wouldn't have compete against you. Good luck on the new job and hope it doesn't take too much of your fishing time away.
  11. Great report, thanks
  12. What has happened to the reports ? Last time I was out was Sunday at dark, all I got was three undersized small mouth around point 10 on a ned rig. Water was rough and wake boats made it rougher so I couldn't see top water at sunset. Are there night tournaments going on? Anyone fishing or getting reports? I need my fix of reading about people fish more than me, where did everyone go?
  13. I just ordered a Rx dive mask off Amazon since I am blind and was wondering what it would be like to snorkel around my boat at night with the green fishing light . Has anyone tried that? I always see tons of bait on the death finder but never dove into them before.
  14. I have seen the dock and fished around it at night, big boat dock you can see from point 8 sign. I have never tried but will now you brought it up. Does anyone know the hours? http://www.beaverlakeresorts.com/ventris_trails_end_resort_002.htm
  15. I was out for about two hours yesterday around PC and saw a clear thermocline set up at 30 feet. My question is when that is 10 to 20 feet thick on the depth finder is all that shad I am seeing at 35-50 feet? I know a lot of it is plankton and the yellow and red in the therocline looks a lot different then shad balls above it, but sure does look like a lot of shad below it. At one point I was in 80 feet of water and the depth finder was reading 38 feet because of the shad or whatever was in the thermocline.
  16. Funny how quickly they change what they want how they want it or where they are at in the water column. Reminds me of a day I was fishing when water was in the high 80s and I was targeting fish on the bottom at 30 feet. Bright sun overhead and no wind and I was sure all the fish were deep. Then a Bald Eagle swooped out of tree and picked up a bass on top that was too big for it to carry and had to drop it right next to the boat. I changed to a top water and started catching fish on almost every cast. It made no sense at all that top water would work in the middle of a hot sunny day and have never since made that pattern work.
  17. I can answer #3 and that is on your trolling motor or through you trolling motor if you have a newer on that accepts that. I like to use jigging spoons alot and zooming in on the fish and seeing the spoon at the same time makes all the difference especially working tree tops this time of year. There is nothing like seeing that straight line out of a tree intersecting with the wavy line of the spoon. I just buy the $3 large hose clamp at the auto store instead of buying the $30 kit the put it on my trolling motor.
  18. Come back in Nov for striper
  19. From my limited understanding, zebra mussels are natural water filters increasing water clarity. Since the Ozark lakes are used for drinking water this would help in the filtering process. The problem is they clog intakes over time. but the trade off of cleaning intake hoses once a year verses having natural water filters running 24/7 at no cost would be worth the cost of the cleaning intake hoses. The only draw back I have seen are they are really hard on fishing line. The size and numbers of small mouth in Lake Erie has been credited to the introduction of the Zebra mussel an I don't see any problem with more big small mouth in any lake.
  20. Yes. I was on the main lake battling the wake boats.
  21. I hit RB about 5PM yesterday and fished until dark, I targeted the wind blown shore line. I drug plastic on the bottom just cleaning out the box of discarded plastics Kietechs, flukes whatever on a 3/8 oz jig head pulled along the rocks in 10-20 feet of water. The wind and boat wakes must have been loosing up the crawfish because I lost count of the small mouth I caught and had three good keeper walleye (barely 18in) and lots of little spots. No secret lure, just drug anything and keep hitting the rocks and keep getting bites, nothing to brag about but a really nice 4 hours even had top water action around 8pm in a 10mph wind right at the boat that resulted in a fish per cast with a pearl fluke. I was the last boat in at RB that made it nice to load and head home around 9PM.
  22. Best bet for catching stripers you may not want to hear, but night fishing with large bait between points 1 and 5. Most of the big fish have moved to the North end of the lake. Early morning right at sunrise and sunset you will see top water but it does not last long. I see guides fishing alone when on the lake at 2am, that is not a time that most people want to hit the lake and it will result in one or no fish more often than a limit this time of year. But if you listen closely you can hear the big fish hitting top then move on top of them and wait. The best bet is to hire a guide for your first trip and try to get out as early as possible, if you find a guide for a night trip even better. Large shad are all most impossible to find this time of year and they are illegal to sell in Arkansas so hiring a guide is the only way I can tell you to find the right bait for getting a big one. Pulling cranks and watching for top water may result in a good morning but it is really hit and miss and if the wind comes up then you will need to be right on top of them to see or hear where they are coming up. Good luck, the fishing is good but you are picking a hard time of year for stripers.
  23. If you are going to eat them no problem, but an 8 foot rod and 40lb braid and you get them to the boat a lot faster and fresher if you are going to release them. I was pulling in a 10lber across the top and Fins and feathers was close and said he had never seen a striper jump out of the water when reeled in just like a large mouth. When your geared for 40lb bringing in those 10lbers is like hooking a bluegill on a bass rod. But then again I fish a ned rig on 24lb Gliss just because I can bend back a hook easier than finding a lure and retying and I hate leaving plastic in the lake or in fish. Though I have left some Arigs in trees and had to use the big motor to break off because I didn't want to leave all that braid for someone to get in their prop by cutting the line.
  24. I have got to get up early more often, thanks for the report.
  25. Thanks, I have an Iphone and an Android and now know where the Emergency information is located and will share with work.
