  1. That "slime" you are referring to is called an oily fish and that is what makes it good for an open grill unlike a trout that must be wrapped in tin foil. you Gulf types are are strange people, the east coast cooks fish the same way from Maine down to South Carolina, I don't even want to know what happens to a lobster down there,,,,LOL
  2. Striper should be cooked on a grill, skin side down no flipping allowed so it is written and so it shall be !!! This Cajun stuff is way to close to French cooking and that aint the way it is done here....Okra is for frying not to make soup out of...now get out the lard and flour and cast iron and do it right.
  3. Hard to keep a history going when you have an area nobody is from. Very few old timers and family history in the area, we didn't grow as fast as NWA did in the past 14 years by having babies it is all people from out of State. I was born and raised in Arkansas but spent very little time here between 18-40 and now live on the other side of the state then my family ties. Just is not the same as areas where you live in the house your great grandfather built and your dad was born in and everyone in town can same the same sort of place. I am not saying it is right, just fact. Heck I even get questioned about my "accent" in NWA...lol It might not be Arkansas any more but if you look close you can still find traces.
  4. Agreed, even if it is peace and quit and a small chance of catching a fish beats a crowd catching fish. Brings back memories of sitting in ice shanties on top of 16in of ice............
  5. Catching walleye in Beaver can be simplified to just paying you dues in a bass tournament and you can catch walleye on everything you throw that day...
  6. Fishing from shore I would get him some little casting spoons like little cleos, blue and silver can't be beat when the whites are feeding. You can really sling those spoons from shore and easy to work from 30 feet down or 1ft near shore.
  7. IMO it was a much better lake when there was only a dirt ramp that most people were afraid to use. I helped a friend replace an axle on his trailer at the old launch and if you didn't have a 4x4 you didn't even try it. I hated that old ramp when it was there now I want it back. Just goes to show we are never happy. Removing the catch and release only really helped the size of the bass but you just don't get those 75-100 fish a day days anymore. With all these winter snow storms I don't think the pressure will be too bad this winter and come April you won't see 5 boats on the lake.
  8. I did one of those back about two years ago, when the sun is just coming up and the water is warm the fog is thick and the only safe place to be is on the ramp. How no one has died there in those early morning free for all is a mystery to me but not a fun time IMO. Then I am old and don't do well in crowed noisy places anymore........ Keep your life jacket on until the sun is high in the sky if you go. I would be happier getting skunked on Beaver with a cove to myself then winning a jackpot in that crowd.
  9. I am betting there will be stripers in the back of Monte that will hit jerk baits.
  10. I am afraid the next two weeks are going to hurt no matter where you go, below freezing temps and frozen reels don't make a very pleasant day, I say a trip to Falcon might cure my cabin fever.
  11. No pink flukes? I used too ask these two guys at castmaster weigh ins what they used to get those big bags and they would laugh and say pink flukes, it tool me two years before I realized they were not joking. How about that different looking spoon or maybe the old dare devil spoon with the 5 red diamonds.
  12. I have several of those, all recovered from trees near Holiday Island....I wonder...
  13. You know you are getting old when your wet dreams are about a lake and fishing.....lol When I have those at least I go to Falcon.
  14. Nice work, really like the colors on the jerk baits.
  15. I hear a lot of people who don't want to share their favorite go to lures like someone else is going to use it. In my experience unless your initials are KVD other people will not give up throwing their lure and use yours even when you are catching big fish left and right on the same boat. But I love to see those weird lures that work for other people since my favorite should not be a clear water lake. So here is a pic of my go to lure and got my personal best bag out of Beaver, now I have showed you mine, let's see yours..lol
  16. Everyone has to have those pink jerkbaits, I just got two in the mail one was Kiwi and the other was Daiquiri seems like there is just a time of the spring those baits your wife and daughter pick out just work. That is for Black Bass the Stripers don't seem to steal those as much as the more natural colors.
  17. What your are thinking is two ps, made that mistake more than once...lol And the answer is no Beaver lake no good Stripper Cubs.
  18. What is required to be a member?
  19. That is how they do the report, I have been in HL&S when they were busy and they handed me the phone to give a report. The problem is most people stop on their way out not on the way back in, so reports are late since they get reports from last trip that could be a week old.
  20. Are you pulling the trailer level with a step down, if your truck has 18in tires and your trailer has 14in tires you should have a 3-4 inch step down. It sounds like the tires are rubbing to me. There is a place that specializes in trailers on 62/102 before you hit the airport going out of Rogers, I would check with them. Can't remember the name but that is all they do, so I would go there, but I have no personal experience to pass along.
  21. You are the second person to jump on my 1130 JDOC
  22. Top of flood pool is 1130 so I will guess that since I think it will go over the dam. Winter pool should be down 5 feet and with all the snow this winter up north all the rivers will be flooded before the corp wakes up and thinks about flood levels, after all this is a river system.
  23. Is it just me or is it usually a rule of thumb that south of PC you find bigger bass and North you just get more numbers? Every bass I have caught in Beaver that was over 5lbs was south of PC. Though I have found several 5 and 6 lbers in PC I always right them off to fish released there.
  24. Any one have any pics of the old brick factory that was once across from Horseshoe bend toward the Monte side? I talked to an old man at the launch a few years ago that worked there as a boy.
  25. Still need some work on the carbs and new tires, finally have the money but know need the time to get it into the shop.
