Trust me there is not a question that did not run through my head thousands of times didn't and don't take any of the comments as slams. Thinking out loud is the way I get through life. Makes my wife crazy. The dogs don't seem to mind and my son just puts his head phones on.

The amount over water coming over the gunwales in white water will be far greater than anything that would seep through the holes in the side. The holes are self sealing with the rope to a point. The hole in the boat is 15/64th and the rope is 1/4 in. The tubing is 7/16 OD x 5/16 ID it takes the pressure on the inside from the loop. It also makes the rope a straight pull through the hull there is really no need for grommets. As for rivets they are the worst thing you can use on royelex unless they have a good backing to spread out the pressure. Smashing the inner foam cores are what causes the cracks to happen. Every royalex boat has holes drilled to attach the gunwales unless they are wood. It is rare for them to crack around the holes. It takes a lot of pressure to crack the outer skin of royalex and in most cases it only cracks when it below 20 degrees.

AL, Everything you said is spot on. I gave consideration to all of the points before I made my changes. I would have set it up solo but I do like it when my wife decides she wants to go. It is rare but this gives me the option. There is enough room to go to my knees and move forward should rough water be encountered. I can also use the center seat if I need to. While it is intended to be a fishing deck it is also a seat frame. I also keep a 30L drybag with me to fill with water and use in the bow to level the boat out if needed.

I had all of those same thoughts. I called and talked to MR about the warranty etc. This is the way they have been putting in lashing for whitewater flotation and river tripping for a long time. Normally air bags or foam blocks would go in the stern and bow. The point of lacing is to spread the pressure on the flat surface between the holes. There is no one single point of pressure it is spread out along the whole hull. The majority of the pressure is on the tubing loop. Unlike d rings or holes in the gunwale which tend to pull out and create a single point of pressure. You can also lace skirts to the outside laces if needed. As far as pressure on the tie down I have no intention of using ratchet straps . The pressure I meant was having your lash points below your gear center point. I am well aware it is overkill for what I use the boat for 95% of the time but hey I know I can hit class 4 rapids with two pit bulls (which I have) and the next door neighbors ranger bass boat and all will be well.

Wife went to the Beach for a week with her sisters. Parked her jeep outside in the snow and started drilling:blink:

Thanks I struggled with this for a long time. All of the old time river trippers I talked with kept saying the same thing. 2.5 to 3 inches from the bottom of the gunwales gives the best pull down on what you are trying to lash. It allows you to pack boat gunwale high and still pull your gear down to the hull keeping it tight. After running it through my pea brain 11289 times I got the drill out. When I paddled it the 1st time I road really high. I weigh 175 and have gotten all of my over night gear down to 30lbs less food. It has a lot of freeboard with just me. Dont plan on paddling tandem. Unless my wife wants to go (which she always does NOT) It was a huge change from my old boat. The Legend was like a sports car on the water or maybe I should say ice. It felt really tippy but handled like a dream. Flick the paddle and you are going that direction. Lowering the seat made it a completely different boat. Still nimble but a lot more stable. I have to admit after 25 years of canoeing it is very hard to drill a hole in the side of a perfectly good boat. It is also nerve wracking when measuring it all out. I just ordered one of these from dryboxs.com. Kind of expensive but it will hold all of my gear and provides flotation should I ever hit that rock and you know tip (which I have never ever never done )

Started outfitting my MR Legend this week. It will be used for River Fishing & Camping. After paddling it in stock form I decided what changes to make. When i solo I will paddle from the stern seat. I replaced the standard flat seat with a contour seat and lowered it 2 inches to lower the center of gravity. I removed the carry yoke in the center and replaced it with a flat seat frame to be used as a fishing deck (to be outfitted later). I laced the canoe to create lash points from one end to the other to secure camping gear, Ice chest etc. Plan to work on the deck over the next few weeks. Will be adding a magnetic tray in the center hole and plano box shelf under the deck.

I broke a suspension. The pliers broke 1st time out. This was 2 years ago and the issue may have been resolved. I would give the pliers a good workout before you put your faith in it in the field. Nothing against Gerber I have 2 other models and stuff happens. Congrats

Gerber Crucial is a great tool. It only weighs 5oz. It will fit in your pocket or clip it to your PFD. The clip is not he strongest but it has never unclipped in the 2 years I have had it. The reason I picked it over others is the blade. It is square/blunt tipped and serrated like a diving knife. So if you ever need to cut a rope or strap after taking a spill it is up to the job. Light weight, carries like a pocket knife Butterfly opening Product Description: This Gerber model 30-000140 is the green-colored version of the Gerber Crucial Tool. Weighing only 5 ounces, the Gerber Crucial carries more like a pocket knife while having the increased functionality of a multitool. Components included on the Gerber Crucial are partially serrated knife blade, flathead and phillips screwdrivers, carabiner, pliers, wire cutters and a bottle opener. All these tools are accessed through this butterfly opening tool that folds up tightly thanks to the stylish curved handles. Technical Specs: Closed Length: 3.6 inches Overall Length: 5.5 inches Weight: 5 oz. Stainless steel construction UPC Code: 013658114159

Some of what you are talking about is happening in a lawsuit filed in the Adirandacks. Thread from Adirondack Board Story

In a way it is a conspiracy. Verizon is a huge part of The Mans Tax Base. Crack down in the parking lots and people stop coming to shows because of the hassle. However the parking lot is the property of the arena so in essence they are liable for not doing enough if the problem exists. The problem in those situations is not a problem if The Man wants the cash and tells law enforcement to wink and look the other way on Verizon Nights. Perfect example of this is Razorback Football Games in Fayetteville. Alcohol is prohibited on campus. If you were caught walking in a parking lot with an open container on any other day than game day you would be looking at an open container ticket at a minimum. If you were over the limit you would be headed downtown for public intox. On game day it is a look the other way attitude by law enforcement. Why is this? Because you don't want to hack of the donors who fill your coffers to pay the expenses to keep the program alive. The law is no alcohol on campus but it is set aside to fit the day and need. Same thing happens in in the luxury boxes at games. The alcohol flows and is over looked however the guy who carries a flask in and gets caught sees the game from the pigscreen outside the stadium.

I think was has folks so upset is there have been no arrests, no charges filed or grand jury's convened to bring down indictments. There appears to only be the seized of property and assets of someone who has not been charged. Kind of hard for folks to understand how that can be called justice when it appears to be so one sided. Again appears is the key word.

No but we will have a thread for Phil to close when he gets back. Why do all the fun threads happen when he leaves. Can we make this one go 30 pages. I dare us to try:rolleyes:

One of my all time favorites. Nigel Tufnel: The numbers all go to eleven. Look, right across the board, eleven, eleven, eleven and... Marty DiBergi: Oh, I see. And most amps go up to ten? Nigel Tufnel: Exactly. Marty DiBergi: Does that mean it's louder? Is it any louder? Nigel Tufnel: Well, it's one louder, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your guitar. Where can you go from there? Where? Marty DiBergi: I don't know. Nigel Tufnel: Nowhere. Exactly. What we do is, if we need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do? Marty DiBergi: Put it up to eleven. Nigel Tufnel: Eleven. Exactly. One louder. Marty DiBergi: Why don't you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder? Nigel Tufnel: [pause] These go to eleven. Eleven (11): Nigel's key to keeping Tap among England's loudest bands. In "This is Spinal Tap," he pointed out to director Marty DiBergi that the settings on Tap's Marshall amps could extend beyond the standard 10 mark. Nigel: "You see, most blokes will be playing at 10. You're on 10, all the way up, all the way up...Where can you go from there? Nowhere. What we do, is if we need that extra push over the cliff...Eleven. One louder." DiBergi: "Why don't you just make 10 louder and make 10 be the top number, and make that a little louder?" Nigel (after taking a moment to let this sink in): "These go to 11." In 1990, Marshall released its JCM900 amp, with the knobs going to 20 (GW2), although Nigel says the company later gave him a special model that goes to infinity (complete with the infinity symbol—an eight on its side—and a dial that keeps spinning around as if it were broken). (EW) The company also makes faceplates for all of its amp models that go to 11. In a 1984 interview, Nigel revealed that his Gibson guitar pickups were modified to go to 11, as well—meaning that with both his amp and guitar turned all the way up, he could hit 22. (GP) A T-shirt that reads "Goes to 11" is now a collector's item because it sold so poorly immediately after DiBergi's film was released. Finally, a posting to the Internet group alt.fan.spinal-tap by Ray Abbitt shed some light on the history of powered amps: "Early Fender Champs (a small, low-powered amp, probably intended for practice) had no controls except for a volume control that went to 11. And from about 5 on up, they didn't get any louder—just more distorted. A number of artists use them for recording and some (including Neil Young) use them for live performances. Most of us who are lucky enough to own one (mine was built in 1953 or 1954) turn them up to 11 cause they sound so darn good." Nigel's now famous phrase have even been recognized by the Oxford English Dictionary.

I usually just listen to the voices in my head. It is the only time they get a chance to come out and play. They dont always make the people around me feel to comfortable. When they speak I listen and most of the time I answer. Talking to them about what what type of tackle to use just really freaks people out. I'm not sure why. I know everyone here has said something like "no I think a 3 inch motor oil gitzit with the tail dipped in char trues craw fish scent should work well" then voice in my heads says "i dont think so" and I kindly reply "well what would you use mister smarty pants" the voice replies with some absurd thing like " a 12 in worm on a #1 hook with polka dots and a pegged bullet weight 14 inches up the line" Now why the waitress at the waffle house gets rattled is way beyond me. I mean after all its 4 am and I am at the Waffle House she had to have heard craziness from the 2 am crowd that my voices would never understand. Will you shut up and let me finish this please I have work to do. No you cant go fishing with me tomorrow you need to go back into my head until I call for you. Sorry now what was I saying Oh yea when I do listen to music it a little Rush, Queensryche, Gabriel, Dream Theater, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Marillion etc.

A cap full of Dawn Dish washing liquid in a pump spray bottle with water. It serves two puposes. It can be used to clean the surface you are applying the vinyl to as well as breaking the surface tension of the vinyl when you apply it. Don't be afraid to use it liberally on large pieces of vinyl. Use a flexible bondo squeegee to take the bubbles/air out. If it is a long piece do a quarter or half at a time. Use painters tape to hold the other half in place .

I always put a name and number and now email address on all of my gear. Most folks will take the time to let you know the found what was lost. Paint Pens do wonders.

Yahoo, I bet whoever took it got laughed at by his kayaking buddies because it was just an old wood boat. It just did not have the coolness factor of one of those sweet new plastic jobbers. Now where did I put the 6v spring top battery for my eveready flashlight.

No I did not get the angler. I tend to try my own rigging. (Notice I said try) I can't tell you how many times I have said "I must have been drunk to think that was a good idea" Austin Kayak is a good group I have bought a lot of stuff from them. I think the thing you are gonna find with Native/Liquid Logic is they protect there dealers. Pricing is pretty set unless you can find or have a long time outfitter to deal with. Our local canoe club had a raffle for the versa board and paddle. I did not win but the fella who did had no use for the board so I bought it from him. He auctioned it on the canoe club site and gave the proceeds to the clubs conservation fund. I got it and a Werner paddle for 650.00. SWEET DEAL. Still need to go get measured for the paddle. The guys who are using them to fish are mostly on the coast and using them for the flats. They have built folding belly bars to lean against when fly fishing. The seat is the same as my Native Ultimate so I can sit in a comfy chair and use a double blade paddle or std single blade. One fell mounted a seat to the lid of a cooler and then strapped the cooler to the board. It is probably 16 inches odd the deck. Not a bad idea. Swivel Seat Cooler Seat

Yes but I have yet to take it out yet. Going to try Sat. I think it is gonna be great. I can stand in my Canoe & Ultimate but when water is low they can be a pain in the {well you know}. The Versa displaces more water so it should be great during the dry shallow season. I am looking forward to it.

Congrats, Now let the choices begin. I have Yaks and Canoes and even a yak that thinks its a canoe (Native Watercraft 14.5) Each have good points and each have bad points. When the water is UP,COLD and Fast I love me Canoe. It is a high, dry ride. I can stand in it and site fish. Carry camping gear for 12. My Native 14.5 is the best all around boat I have ever had. It holds enough gear for camping, I can stand in it super stable. However it is not a good boat for ledges or spring/fall hay stacks without skirts. My SOT perception caster 12 is and awesome summer boat but it is a very wet ride. I would recommend a good pair of breathable waders in the spring and fall. My newest boat is a Native Watercraft Versa Board. Have not had a chance to use it yet and it will be a summer boat. Super stable to stand on and fish. Not sure how it will do on the rivers but the youtube vids of guys standing doing class 3 rapids gives me hope.
