  1. Thanks for the tips, Bill. Question about using flys with spinning or spincast gear. My six year old grandson is biting to go "fly" fishing with me. He can cast the spinning gear. But what is a typical rig for fishing flies this way. 2 or 4 lb test, 5x-7x tippet, with a bubble and or some splitshot to get a nymph down? I remember fishing this way years ago, but I sure can't dig out the technique in my aging memory bank Dano
  2. Dave, it looks maybe they are 1/2 way finished with the new restrooms...Dano
  3. Did I read this on an earlier thread (that I can't find ) or just heard somewhere they may experiment with 7 day C and R this year? I think at one of the other parks it was tried last year. Dano
  4. Phil, do you see them stocking more browns because of the improvements? Dano
  5. Griff, if its the same place we were breaking off on those biggens, then yep....
  6. Phil despite the steady rain we got this morning, it appears we have recieved only 1/10 of an inch today....not good. Dano
  7. Yep Phil we have had a nice steady rain since about 6 this morning, so it looks promising. Now if we could get this for about 3 days straight...Dano
  8. Oh, I don't think he should be ticketed despite whether he was new to the lake or not. I mean there are plenty of signs and notices. Its was a dangerous mistake. At the same time I would like to find a link for a federal or state law about impeding the flow of hydroelectric power and how it would apply ot a stranded fisherman..I can't seem to find it anywhere in the federal registry or Mo state criminal code? Dano
  9. Its just amazing..30 miles South of you we get practically nothing. Its really dry here in North Ark.. Dano

  12. Blood Midge (sorry for the poor lighting) Submitted by Danoinark Blood Midge Originator: Brian Chan Hook – Mustad dry fly or TMC 200R, size 18 Thread – Red Body - Thread Rib – Fine silver wire Tail – Tuft of red marabou 1. Start thread just behind hook eye, advance to just below the hook point. 2. Tie in small tuft of red marabou with no more than 2 thread wraps. 3. Tie in fine silver wire for ribbing. 4. Advance red thread in side by side turns to the starting point. 5. Palmer forward the wire ribbing in equal amounts and tie off. 6. Whip Finish. 7. Coat entire fly with Sally Hansen Hard as Nails (except the marabou of course) to give it a transparent look (optional) How to fish Fish dead drift as a midge or nymph. To get the fly below the surface film use a small split shot approximately 12 to 18 inches above the fly.
  13. Griffin, I think we agree with you that we should all become "good samaritans" and step in to report crime, and go further to save, or aid in the welfare of human beings. I think by confrontation I am simply meaning not to go beyond telling the violator what he is doing wrong and then reporting it to agents. I don't think you are expecting civilians to get hurt over a fish? Dano
  14. Chris What network carries American Outdoorsman? Thanks. Dano
  15. I have to agree with Gone Fishin...its better to leave the confrontations to the law enforcement personnel. Speaking from one who is involved in the Court system as an occupation, you must also be willing to testify in Court to anything that you may have seen or witnessed. You may be called as a witness. I personally have no problem with it, but some people are intimidated by it. So if you call in a report of any illegal activity you better be prepared to be supoeaned to testity or make statements to a Court...Dano
  16. I could not believe Taney was just not wall to wall people at the dam late this afternoon. I got there as they just turned off the two gennies. I had rebar to myself except for a gent and maybe his young daughter. He was teaching her to dance and they were catching plenty. I don't fish my 3wt much, but decided to take it along and I had forgotten how much fun it can be. I ended up using the primose and pearl and landed some real nice fish between the TU stairs and rebar. It seems to me that the fish are larger and livelier than mid week when I was fishing in the same area. It has been awhile since I caught a brown so this little guy was a welcome surprise. He even tail danced a bit to show me just what he had. Ended the day fishing an olive mohair leech that some nice fish just slammed on the retrieve.....Dano
  17. Neat idea Phil...Dano
  18. Rolan I guess I wasn't clear. I guess what I mean't to say was to do it the way Phil has been presenting them on the tying and recipe forum. I understand it would be difficult to actually put the recipe as text on the picture. Dano
  19. Hear Hear....and Amen. A excellent job Phil! Dano
  20. Jeremy I have to agree with fishing baby buggers as opposed to anything much bigger than a size 10. That was exactly the case one late afternoon this week on Taney. And they did take it on the swing more. I was fishing olive 12's with an ostrich herl body and some palmered soft hackle ribbing. Dano
  21. Nice looking bug JoRob....reckon with a red head, them trout might like it? Dano
  22. This probably ain't no big thang...but if Rolan is going to photograph the flys, then it would be nice to somehow attach the tying instructions to that picture. Maybe that can be done....Dano
  23. Here's the trout stamp info from Phil's site: Trout Regs Dano
  24. Phil might even pin the thread too. Dano
