  1. Since Phil asked me to help Admin this forum from its inception that is one of the things I have tried to do, especially offensive words or phrases. Many times I would send the poster a message and give him the opportunity to do edit his own post. Typically I would only edit the word and leave the remainder of the post intact. Its difficult to follow each thread and we also rely on others to point out issues. Dano
  2. Fellows its not the subject (Political)that's the problem its as Trav says "ends up being a dog pile." We don't all have to be on the same page of an issue to discuss it in a civil manner. Healthy discussion of a political nature especially in dealing with the subject of conservation can be helpful to us all. What breeds the Admin ire is the name calling and disrespect to the member posters. Dano
  3. Great report and enjoyed the photos.
  4. Went to far fellows. Ya'll know better. Dano
  5. Of course not one of us knows the ultimate outcome of this but I think there are a few things that we might consider. First what the Feds are proposing is a cutback in the funding not a complete wholesale end to growing trout. If full funding is not restored then its possible the number of stocked trout would be cutback. This would mandate to the state game and fish departments to reevaluate their trout regulations on tail waters. This proposed cutback effects 9 hatcheries across the country. Maybe some of these hatcheries could be combined to produce enough trout in various regions. As to warm water fish in cold tail waters I am not sure you would not have the same issue. Where do you raise enough of them to stock, and because of the nature of tail waters fluctuation in flow because of generation I don't think you could expect the warm water species to be self sustaining.
  6. Was asked to post this: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/save-National-Fish-Hactheries/
  7. Glad to have you Frank.
  8. Glad to have you. Dano
  9. Meant to add a good day trip would be from Ozark access to Hasty. Bobber on here could set you up with an outfitter since he is one. Dano
  10. Hard to beat the Buffalo here in Arkansas. Lots of outfitters and plenty of fish. Dano
  11. Jon, there is another thread running on this too, I think its in General Angling.
  12. Click on the schematic for old style SAII see if it helps. http://www.mikesreelrepair.com/schematics/thumbnails.php?album=10
  13. Tim I think it's a good group to align with. Davy Wotton is the President and he sure has the rivers at heart I do know. There is another organization that has been very active for conservation issues on the White and Norfork along with keeping their eyes on gravel mining, hazardous waste spills and other environmental issues on warm water creeks. Its call Friends of the White and Norfork rivers. Both of these groups are good stewards of the Ozark streams. Here's the other link: http://www.friendsoftherivers.org/
  14. Here is another thread of interest with different perspectives on this topic: http://flyfishingarkansasandmissouri.yuku.com/topic/7008/Budget-Shortfalls-for-Hatcheries
  15. Good informative report. Looked at those closely myself.
  16. Can't beat a Wooley Bugger for just about anything.
  17. Here is a link to a rather lengthy article in the Heber Springs, AR newspaper chocked full of statistics that you might be interested in. http://www.thesuntimes.com/newsnow/x253217255/Nat-l-budget-could-affect-local-tourism
  18. Yeah, happy birthday fellows.
  19. It wouldn't necessarily mean the end of stocker trout. The Feds could ask the state hatcheries in both Missouri and Arkanas to increase production and simply buy them to stock the tailwaters. Remember Federal legislation mandated that mitigation required them to make the tailwaters viable after the dams were built. The law doesn't say where the fish had to come from. Dano
  20. I doubt MDC is locked in to just these sites. I would suggest that you contact someone with the KC Flyfishers and see if they would be willing to host MDC at a future meeting.
  21. I'd suggest a Crackleback in about a size 12.
  22. ...and maybe it is just someone crying wolf, but these folks are a bit worried. http://lobolandingresort.com/blog/?p=50
  23. I presume its the economic climate. We'll see.
  24. I would bet they intend to have more meetings and also believe there would be a period of public comment like other issues before any regulations were put in place.
  25. Discussion at this link about the chances of Federal Hatcheries' budgets being drastically cut. This comes up it seems during every budget cycle. But there seems to be more concern this time around. http://flyfishingarkansasandmissouri.yuku.com/topic/6967/KTLO-Reports-Possible-Budget-Cuts---Closure--Norfork-Hatcher?page=1
