  1. Other than just adjusting your indicator up and down and finding the right color, I would suspect there was not much more you could do. You probably just found a sluggish day. I bet Taz has an answer. Dano
  2. Phil I didn't get anything from you. I checked my email controls and it is all good. Also the email from administrator is also checked. I really can't figure out the problem. Dan
  3. I've read it...and you are right. There are some Slooooow sections that won't keep you up at night. Dano
  4. Can you access the river from KOA if you are not staying there, or will they take an access fee? Dano
  5. Didn't see it for some reason Phil....I wonder if its associated with the email notification problem I am still having. Dan
  6. From the Arkansas Game and Fish weekly news letter. Big rainbow beats but can’t break state record NORFORK - Levi Lenard’s not in the record books, but he can tell his friends he caught a rainbow trout that was bigger than the Arkansas state record. Lenard, 11, was fishing catch-and-release Dry Run Creek Dec. 28 when a large rainbow attacked his white crystal bugger. Had it been weighed on certified scales, it almost certainly would have topped the state record of 19 pounds, 1 ounce. State regulations require that fish caught in Dry Run Creek be immediately released back into the water. Stan Todd, an Arkansas Game and Fish Commission trout biologist based in Mountain Home, estimated the trout’s size from photographs - length 30-32 inches, girth 20-22 inches and weight “somewhere near 25 pounds, give or take a few.” Levi has been catching fish since he was a toddler. He hooked this one with a fly rod strung with 3-pound-test tippet. “It fought a lot and made big splashes,” he said. “When we first tried to put it in the net, it wouldn't fit and flopped out. We finally got it into the net headfirst. Then we pulled it onto the bank and took pictures and then I gave him a kiss and let him go. There were people on the bank cheering for me. My dad and grandpa have caught a lot of fish but never one as big as mine.” Levi obviously enjoys the time on the water. “Although we live in Burlington, Kansas, we typically make many trips down to Arkansas during the year,” said Lewis Lenard, Levi’s father. “I'm about four hours from the White River and I grew up in the Ozarks trout fishing as a youth, too. I was very impressed with the size and health of the fish we caught on this memorable trip. I caught rainbow, brook, brown, and cutthroat on the North Fork River. These fish put up an incredible fight regardless of their size and all fish had the most brilliant color I've ever seen.” Levi also has done quite well during fishing trips to Arkansas. “Last year my grandpa got me a fly rod for my birthday,” he said. “I have fished a lot on the White River. Last year we went to Bull Shoals (Lake) to fish after Christmas and this year we went to the North Fork River. One of the things that my dad got for me for Christmas was fly-fishing instruction. I caught several really nice rainbow, cutthroat and brown trout on the river. “We like to go trout fishing in Arkansas because it’s beautiful on the rivers and we release a lot of fish so we can come back and catch them again.” Dry Run Creek, which flows from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Norfork National Fish Hatchery in Baxter County, is specifically for anglers under 16 and handicapped anglers. 7. The reel seat should pull off the blank if you boil it. As to the cork grip, you more than likely will have to destroy it to get it off of course. The only way that I think you could put a cork grip back on is by doing it the way you suggested, taking the guides off that section and rewrapping, or tying to find large enough cork ring to make your own grip. This would take losts of sanding and finishing to accomplish that, but it might be done. Many builders make their own grips that way. Also ask the questions at http://www.rodbuilding.org/list.php?2
  8. Greg Its right by the main parking area at outlet #2 Dano
  9. I built my first rod on a Dorber blank. They are made in Flippin Arkansas. Check them out at www.dorber.com The entire Dorber folks are gems to deal with. Dan
  10. Gavin Thanks for the info and encouragement. Phil I got all of the FFF legal documents sent to me today. I will email them to you if you want to look over them. I haven't dissected them enough to see if there are any issues with association of other national groups. A club in Topeka just started up. I have been in touch with them too. I don't have the website url here at home, but do at the office. I will also send that along. As to these FFF documents if anyone wants to see them just email me and I will email them to you. Dan

    Hello

    Welcome Don...happy fishing Dano
  12. Leonard Those are questions I obviously can't answer. I do know from the limited research about FFF, they don't require dues from the local clubs. Most clubs charge dues though to build up a war chest for their local projects. I have no idea what TU charges. I think you have to be a member of the National TU in order to be a member of a local chapter. FFF requires some legal documents to be filed that makes the local club a 501 c3 tax status as a non profit group. Also your Charter must have at least 12 members. I would suggest that if there are enough people interested that we should consider an organizational meeting where we could sit down and discuss the feasibility of it all. I like Phil's idea of maybe joining efforts. I also like Jorob's thoughts because I am a selfish fly fisherman, but at the same time I sure don't have an attitude that precludes me from throwing a spinning rod too. I probably should have posted this on the Taney Forum we might have gotten more hits. Phil it just occurred to me that you would know this. At the Branson TU, were there figures as to who comprised the most members or active members .. fly fishers or conventional anglers? Dano
  13. Excellent tip Wayne
  14. Is that the Rusty Spinner Brian? Tied with antron wings??? Dano
  15. I will tell you one thing...its one of the most user friendly sites. The Invision folks have done a bang up job with their format. I sure do appreciate it here. Dano
  16. Welcome Fish Bork....come on down the water is fine! Dano
  17. Hey Congrats Phil, the site is ranked 19th out of the top 100 Fly Fishing sites!!!!! Dano
  18. KFF, I am going to try to get my buddy JoRob to come also. He is a FF and also medic....that would be great....two medics for us old guys... Dan
  19. Thanks Phil, and the more I think about it, the more the TU is probably a way to go. The charter is already there, and it would (I suppose) just take a few to get it rolling again (if politics would allow). The only thing that concerns me is what you said earlier about the possibility of a merger of some of the chapters. I guess too I am being selfish in that I am a fly fisher and that discounts those that are not. In order for Taney to continue to be healthy as it is, it takes all types of anglers. Dan
  20. Wayne I think I have to agree with you. Anytime you have locals involved in the local project I do believe it carries more weight. I would envision that the type of club I am speaking about would be just that. I think there is some clout with being affiliated with say the FFF too. Here are the requirements to become a charter FFF club. http://www.fedflyfishers.org/abcharterClub.php It sure is not something we would have to do. I think just forming a local club without affiliation would also be just as strong and worthwhile to our area fishery's. Dan
  21. Sounds good to me Brian. I will cover the buns. Dan
  22. I VOW, not to look it up Brian.. ..obviously a shad fly of some origin, but I have no idea of a name...geeesh, you are coming up with some hard ones.
  23. Brian I am going to put it down and if at all possible I will be there. I will also bring a box of trash bags. Where do we meet (main parking lot at outlet 2?) and what time would you want to start? Dano
  24. jOrOb I was thinking about our conversations when I posted this. Maybe we will get some response. I bet someone in the fold will know what they are doing Dano
