  1. Has anyone ever turkey hunted around Stockton? I know there is alot of public land all around the lake and I seem to see plenty of turkey down there when I have fished in the past. It seems like a good combination, hunting until 1:00 and then fishing the rest of the day. If anyone knows of some good areas on the lake or that might not get very much hunting pressure let me know, thanks.
  2. Just curious if anyone does any snagging on the Mississippi, Missouri, or Meramec. Never have gotten into it but with the season opening it seems like there would be some one who does it on the those rivers.
  3. I was looking to start fishing tournaments more, and was wondering where to start. It seems like there are several organizations that some one can join but not really sure what would be best. Just looking to fish a handfull of tournaments a year in the mid-west. Any suggestions. Thanks.
  4. I would think your best bet with a fly rod would be white bass. Not to mention that would be a great fight on a long pole. They should be getting ready to head up the Sac here shortly.
  5. This was an well organized tournament and I will definafely be participating again next year. I know there has been some concern in the past about trout living after a tournament like this, but all the fish I saw wieghed in looked to be doing pretty well. I know our eight swam off fine. I know the wieghts look light, but unless you were in the tournament you really don't have much room to talk. Great job with the tournament Phil!
  6. I have been unable to print the entry form off the website, just want to make sure we will still be able to enter the tournament that morning. Thanks.
  7. I know it's early but has anyone been down to the potholes and gotten into any walleye yet?
  8. I would say with rifle season opening on Saturday crowds should start to thin out.
  9. How do you fish these pillars at night? I've tried rigging minnows and/or shad caught below my lights with limited success. How deep do you drop your light and bait?
  10. This is not the case with this fish you caught but has anyone else noticed many of the larger rainbows at Maramec with beat up faces? Is this from running into the concrete sides of the hatchery or something else?
  11. It may be possible but I wouldn't recomend it. You could probably ride sled style down but dragging it back up would take well over an hour and alot of muscle. Terrapin is right you would be better off with waders. You should be able to fish 90% of the river wading, or if you have a float tube that could be an option. Good luck and keep us posted however you fish it.
  12. Catman, I fished there a few weeks ago with not much success with the walleye but the black bass fishing was pretty good if your into that. Turkey I do not really hunt but they were all over the place. Counted 19 in one cove off of what used to be point 8 but I think is now called point 10. Hope you do well this weekend and keep us updated on how you do. Jason
  13. Jeff, I fished below the park, up from Cardiac on Friday with a guide from OzarkTroutHunter. It was a bit slow but the trout are there. I will probably be hitting it up again here pretty soon if your up to go. Your best bet according to the guide is early, but you would probably do pretty well in the evening as well. Remember you can fish anytime out side of the park. Not really sure about what to use with spinning gear but a rooster tail would surely put you on to a few rainbows. Did not catch many small mouth though. Jason
  14. I used to throw rogues at night with some success, but mostly fly fish now. You'll be suprised how small of a rainbow will hit a rogue. Would you be boat fishing or wading?
  15. I was out last saturday for a couple of hours, mainly to run my boat since its been a little while. Not much happening so a few gar, lots of boaters, and lots of people bank fishing. Caught huge drum on a power grub but that was it. Would like to hear any other ways people been doing well. Not a big carp fisherman but they sure are fun to smoke with the boat when they jumping. Also have seen people shooting them with bows but not yet this year. Let me know how you do if you end up getting out there. Jason
  16. Dee Willy I was planning on putting in at George Winter this weekend and doing some fishing, but it sounds like its pretty slow. Where abouts do you usually fish up or down from there? Also did you see any asian carp jumping yet? Jason
  17. Brian, The Black in Southeastern Missouri, it used to be a great smallmouth and gogleye river but there was a huge resevior break late in 2005 so I'm not sure what it looks like now. Johnson shut-ins is located on the river if that helps you place where it is. Jason
  18. Anyone fish the lower Meramec much? I fish Suicide and Cardiac a couple of times a year but have had limited success on the river the closer you get to St. Louis. Not picky on the species of fish because I can get my boat out in the river about 15 minutes from my house. Also has anyone been hearing anything about the asain carp problem yet this year on the river? Last year there were quit a few near George Winter park but haven't heard/seen any so far this year.
  19. Do any of you ever say anything to people "shuffling"? The times I have, there have been mixed results. Some, usually newer to the sport fly-fisherman, actually take the criticism constuctively and begin to actually fish. Sometimes I even lend them a hand and give them a couple "real" flies. Others take great offense to this to say the least. Just wondering how others handle this?
  20. Caught one a few years back and no one belived me so when a buddy caught one while white bass fishing near Beaver I took it with me. (I used the have an aquarium of missouri fish) He got pretty big on a diet of feeder fish and lunch meat, but he died after about 6 months. What is the current Yellow Perch record? Has anyone caught these in any numbers?
  21. I built a rod a few years ago, but I had plenty of help for Tom at T.Hargrove. If your near St. Louis it is definately werth stopping by and getting a few pointers. Also there are some great books out that can help.
  22. What about using those egg patterns on Taney not glow balls but those you can make with a hot glue gun or something similar? I have never used them before but I have seen people using them near the dam. Just curious if they are legal there.
  23. Lilley, Any of these top teams fish above fall creek?
  24. I thought you moved back to Iowa? I'm one of Fobian's bubby's, been fishing with you on Taney a couple of times. You guys are already getting into the whites I see, heard anything about them moving up the Sac from Stockton yet?
  25. Anybody actually fish for these (alligator or longnose)gar in Missouri? I have gotten into them by accident several times both on the fly rod and spinning gear. I'll have to look for some pictures but some freinds and I caught some mamoth's by Missouri standards on the finley river. Also have caught a few fairly nice size one on the Meramac. The longnose are nearly inpossible to catch on a hook and if you do they usually will cut the line with their teeth. I will keep a fly/lure I will throw with a spinning rod at them. It just consists of a strip of frayed up nylon that get tangeled in there teeth. Anybody else have any local (Missouri/Arkansas) stories on these things.
