Water Patrol Authorizes Idle Speed Area
perchjerker replied to jlpatton1's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
I fish a 1982 Bass Tracker with a 25H.P. merc. I belive it is the perfect boat for Taney. I'll never give it up unless it sinks. Part of the problem is that there are'nt many lakes as thin as Taney so you cant give a whole lot of room between boats while running. I usally throttle down in the congested areas but on a weekend from Lilleys to above Fall Creek,I'll go by 30 boats. I would like to put more room between us but the shore line doesnt move at all. I just try not to put anyone in a dangerous situations. This also includes those crazy kayakers.Keeping a cool temper helps also. -
Sounds like bad to me , but I went on a 7 day trip to Canada and left my tackle box in the car trunk at home. Found this out after I got to the camp island 24 hours later. No marinas, stores or resorts close by. Borrowed 3 lures and had a great time catching many, many fish with a very loose drag and wet cloths after 3 dives to get lures unsnagged. We fishermen do what we got to do.Thank God it's to cold up there for Giant Taney Squids.

I don't think I was there when those pictures were taken, but I do remember staying at Sammy Lane Resort.I've been coming to Taney for trout since 1963. I even reconize some of the area's that are in your pictures. Again I wasn't there at the time of these pictures !! Thanks for sharing them.

I went with pollution as my number one .I'm always concerned about what the guy upsteam (TableRock) is doing to make his area good and doesnt worry about my fishing hole below him. Good question, keep us thinking and HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL YOU TROUT JERKERS !!!

I would like to give a big THANK YOU to all on OAF. The year has given me many new friends and a bevy of information. Learning to night fish with fly equipment has been a new treat for this old fishing dog.I'm also thankful the Taney Squid didn't claim any bodies......so far See you at the Dam.The Old Perchjerker

Cudos to you and the Mrs. Leonard. Now you have something that will let the Taney trout rest and start biting on our stuff.Best wishes to all of you.

When fishing Short Creek, are you on the upstream side or the downstream side?On the flats or the Channel bank? I've drift rig alot by there but have never tried fly fishing there. Thanks ahead of time for any info.

Harpoons are useless against that Killer. You are better off packing a large sharp axe so if he grabs you, you can save yourself by cutting of you leg and letting him have it....Call Me Ishmal If You Will

Coming Down Saturday Wondering About Trolling
perchjerker replied to hawkeye's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
Hey Hawkeye I troll a bunch, and even more as it gets colder.I would like to try futher down, but very rarely do i go below Roark creek. Over the last 30 years we have had luck trolling woolybugers with an in line spinner, flatfish, cleos (gold & orange the best),a Rebel small fry crawfish (natural colors with some orange on it)but recently we have had good luck with a #4 shadrap that goes down about 12ft. on 6lb. test line and little jake wooble lures (brass with red diamond dots.So give it all a try and let us know what worked for you.If the leaves are on top of the water just stick your rod tip in the water and work your way thru them.Good Luck...The Old Perchjerker -

See you Fri. or Sat. The Old Perchjerker Jim.Please say it's going to start getting too cold for the Giant Taney Squid!!!

If the weather doesn't dump ice or snow , I would love to be included on Jan. 1st. I'll be down Sept. 13th for about 4 or 5 days. Hope to see more of everyone with bent rods and sore arms.Keep the pointers coming, every time I get on the site I learn something new to try which keeps all the Fly Shops happy because I don't like to tie flys.

The last thing I'll say on this is not only have I been told what to use but have been given the hot fly of the day to use no charge. Early this month Iwas able to return this good deed by giving a gentleman from Minnesota a fly I was catching them on. It was his first trip to Taney, and he absolutly loved it.He said he would be back again and hoped he could help someone to.This is what the OAF is about. Thank you all for helping me help this guy.

Where's all the night fishing reports??
perchjerker replied to duckydoty's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
Fished last week from 3am to 8am about 2 hrs. were in the dark. Used a mini white jig in the water by the cable.Went down to 3lb. leader & tippet because of the lights from the Dam. Caught about 30 rainbows with some having a little heft to them. Also had 2 nice browns.I fished this area because I thought it was to shallow for the "Giant Taney Squid" but I caught a glimpse of him by outlet #1.To all:BE VERY AFRAID OUT THERE SOME ONE IS GONNA GET IT !!!!! -
How long of a rod - keep it clean please!
perchjerker replied to MoMuskies's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
After you upgrade that rod you are a fisherman, and will want a new reel.I have 3 Pflueger Presidents that are about as good as I have ever had.(gome thru about 30 reels and 10 types) I use them for trout, crappie, bass, bluegill, and have caught large catfish and strippers on them so I give them very high marks. When you get your rod take it to the store and try the reels on and go with the smallest, lightest one that will fit your needs.Take in mind as to the amount of the line you want. If you make a long cast and those bulked up Taney Browns make a long run, you can get to the end of the spool pretty quick on tiny reels.Good luck on whatever you get.See you on the Water. -
Just got back from a great salmon fishing trip to Algoma Wis. I just got to read your comments. Thanks for all the good info. Hope to also bring some of those salmon smoked down to the Jan. 1st gala event. See you on the water next week. The Old Perchjerker Jim.

Wow!! What an experience of fishishing at night for the first time last Thursday.I must say many, many, many thanks to Micheal of Backcounty Outfitters. Not only did he show me how to dail in the area with the right fly but also gave an infusion to my casting that greatly increased my distance. I also did'nt get all the names of everyone down there but a freindly bunch of night whippers you could not meet.I did'nt catch anything large but that will come later.I'm sure more would have been caught but Micheal was to nice letting me have as many shots as possible.I'll be back down on Aug. 17th and hope to be on Taney that night.I now know why you all are excited about night fly fishing because I'm bit, and smile at you lucky stiffs who live down there. See you in the midnight hours, Jim Smith the old Perchjerker.
