  1. Phil In your old age you have started to repeat yourself.
  2. Great stuff Phil. Those Northerns on spinning gear must have been awsome. Too bad you have been up there and missed all the great specials that they are running at the Landing and your fly shop. Condos at $100 for the week with free boat, any 5 items from the store for $5. Supplies are running low, however. George
  3. Hey Bill They are under general discussion, Alaska adventure Are there any photos of the river bottom exposure during the drawdown? I can't imagine how they could have gotten it low enough to expose the bottom. For example were the flats above fall creek high and dry and water only in the deep channel? Unbelievable. George
  4. Good stuff Terry George
  5. Look at the maps section above. A better plan may be to put in at cooper creek (really nice public ramp) and boat up as far as you are comfortable and then to get below fall creek if you think that the water is getting too low. There are several tricky places around fall creek and up stream that you can run aground if you are not familar with the channel when the water is low. There are also some big rocks on the deep (left) side as you go up stream. Down stream from Fall creek it gets shallow at short creek. Stay to your left on the way down stream and the cut to your right as you run out of lake. There are many great places to loose a lower unit on Tany. In general I think that it is a mistake to boat above lookout unless the water is high and they are generating. Get out with someone who know the tricks and do not get in too big of a hurry and watch out. Good luck, your rig should be fine for Tany. George PS Never anchor when they are generating, things can change in a hurry
  6. If they are generating a lot of water, you could make it to cooper right quick. Phil could tell you the mileage. It might make sence to have an alternative takeout if they are runnung a lot of water. Have fun George
  7. I sent him an e-mail and you should be hearing from him shortly. George
  8. Hi Rolan On the hook set thing. I only met you one time, but after hearing about your fishing expertise from Phil, Bill and my Mom & Dad, I could only conclude that you were fishing a scud with no hook at all and you just could not get them to hold on all the way to the boat. The jig actually had a hook on it and that made all the difference. Seriously, thanks for your report. It sounds like you guys had a wonderful trip. George Steffen
  9. Sounds like Phil wants a little love and some sympathy for his poor fingers and thumb that got bit up by that nasty old brown. Lets see if I can work up any. Nope, I don't feel sorry at all. My fingers are sore from pounding this bleeping keyboard all day. Seriously, Nice fish Phil. George
  10. Nothing serious and they are both great. Thanks for the reports
  11. I am very interested in how the rest of this will pan out, Please keep us posted jcmojo and thanks for the input. My guys caught some crappie deep on thursday, put did not make the walleye part of the trip as the river was muddy from the rain. I went down sat night for the poker game and Fished at bennett springs today. Water was high and fast and white jigs were the ticket. George
  12. The question is Bill, were they biting so good that even I could have caught one if I wasn't talking? Thanks for the report, Dad had some minor surgery last week and did great with it, I am going to chase them that way as soon as I can. Have to get these gardens in shape first. Take care George
  13. I have been very busy, not a good idea for a CPA to take a fishing trip before the end of tax season, but I never was that smart of a guy. Kids had spring break and I have fun at the lake no matter what. Anyway, here is my report from last weekend on the Little Niangua. Cold Cold Cold Water temp down to 50 and the crappie had definately moved out to deeper waters than I could find them. You would think with all of the stuff I threw at a variety of locations and depths that I would have caught at least one that was lost from the pack, but if you thought that you would have been wrong. Did catch one about 12 ft deep off the dock as I was putting the boat up Monday afternoon but that was it. Caught some nice chuncky 12-14 in bass and one drum of about 6lbs but that was it. Fun on my ultralight tackle. Also fished windy points for whites with no success. Icycles on the boat docks on Easter Sunday afternoon? You bet. 15 degrees f on Sunday morning. The world is comming to an end.(Just ask Al Gore) I have a buddy that is down there this weekend, but I do not think that the temps have warmed the water to any significant degree for the crappie. Wonder if they will renew the spawn at some temp or just absorb the eggs. They were going to go up the Niangua and chase some walleye, I'll pass on any info I get. George
  14. Thanks Dutch and once again jcmojo Maybe I'll have to take the flyrod along and float some tiny white jigs I usually throw 1/16 with a variety of white and chartruse 2" curly tail bodies. I am going no matter what, so we will see George
  15. Dear jcmojo Thanks for the detailed report, I really apperciate it. It would be great to see more reports for LOA like we have for Table Rock or Tany. What it the optimal water temp for crappie spawn? I have a feeling that with this cold front moving thru this weekend could be tough. Thanks again George
  16. I am heading to the little Niangua for Easter weekend and was wondering if the Crappie are in yet. Any info would be helpful. George
  17. I guess you were fishing with coke, Phil. Did all of the trout try to snort the midge? George
  18. Bill So, sight fishing equals shuffelling, I guess its time for another thread on that. Phil, kill it before it gets going. BILL I know you get a commission on the micro jigs, we already covered that. I wasn't aware that you got a cut of the rods as well. Everyone I AM JUST KIDDING. IT'S A JOKE. Keep up the reports, I know of no other source of fishing information as great as this one. It is great for those of us who are too tied up to make it down . Hope to get there before this run is over. George As I have told you Bill, I love reading the reports
  19. Go to the article section and start reading. If you have the means, contact Bill Babler and hire him to take you out early in your trip if he isn't booked. A great guide is always worth it. Good Luck George
  20. Go ahead and rub it in, tell us how good they tasted.
  21. Under the topic "Table Rock Article" there is a spring bass fishing one by Bill Babler. Read it and then watch this section for reports as you get closer to your trip. Look at the maps provided here or get a good map of the area that you are going to fish. Good luck George
  22. The midge will work fine fished very shallow (18") under the smallest float you can manage.
  23. Bill was fishing 2 rods at once? George
  24. Thanks for the report, Skip. How warm did it get.
  25. Wow Phil nags you to report TWICE. Sincerely, thanks so much for the fishing reports, they help a lot of us get thru the winter. George
