  1. Hey big red You will have a much better hookup rate with the fly rod using micro jigs under a float than you will with a spinning rod once you get used to it.
  2. I should not have left out Leonard, Project Healing Waters or any of the other fine fellows who also share on this great forum
  3. I would take Michael's or Phil's or Bill Babler's or Trav's advice 100 times over a book. These guys are on the lake every day and have fished it in all conditions. They are also dedicated to helping people find fish on Tany Just my 2 cents worth
  4. Also go back and read the stuff that John Berry has written, it is more specific to the White.
  5. The same types of things should work, and since those guys are fishing Tany more often, that is where most of the discussion of lures and methods end up.
  6. Under the Tanycomo heading there are archives onf articles written by Plil Lilly and Bill Babler, among others. Reading them is a good place to start. There are tons of great guys on this forum who are more than happy to share.
  7. Nope, plenty of people flying up and down
  8. Next, Phil will evaluate the Zapruder film and the photos of the grassy knoll. Good job, hate to see those smallies leave the stream.
  9. There is a channel that you need to stay in when the water is low. It is really best to go up the first time with a vet who can show you the tricks. In general, you start at the left side (facing upstream) below fallcreek. When you get to the last house, angle across to the mouth of fall creek to the right side. You go straight upstream to the brushpile, then angle back to the left side at about 30 degrees toward the log that looks like an allegator(I am not making this up). Try to keep your boat in at least 3 feet of water. Go slow and watch the bottom. You then go up the left side to the brush pile, where it gets deeper. The deep part is then on the left side as you go. If you can follow a guide and take their wake path that may be the best idea. There are several huge rocks in there as you go up, please be careful. It is generally a bad idea to tie up or anchor in swift water, bad things can happen in a hurry. There is slack water below lookout island, which is generally out of the currrent. Fish do tend to hold there. George
  10. Andy Fish are stocked and harvested out of Tany as a regular thing, there is no "overstocking" or excess quantity of 10 to 13 inch fish. Many anglers enjoy catching and keeping a limit of those. God bless them. We also have the slot limit thing in the upper lake which is more to my taste, with huge browns as well as some huge rainbows, the best of both worlds in my opinion. The cold water from the bottom of the dam (which provides power) has been put to excellent use. It would be silly for the state to stock rainbows to feed stripers. Feel free to fish or not fish anywhere you want, this is still America.
  11. A little love here for Bill Babler, also great on either tablerock or tany, and a fun guy to boot. Fun as in to fish with, nothing inappropriate. George
  12. I boated upstream several times this spring post flood and with zero power generation it was still ok to navagate up to lookout. More gravel at the mouths of and below the creeks for sure, but the same general channel thru fall creekand above. With the boards off there are huge gravel bars exposed above fall creek in periods of no generation that were not visable before. Like Web said, about 4 feet lower than normal. Upstream from that, I know that there is a huge tree in the area of the big hole, but with 3 or 4 units going it was ok to go up to the cable. Good luck and be safe, take your time going up. George
  13. With the damage that Bill has been doing on tablerock, I was not sure that he would ever fish tany again.
  14. Phil Nice job picking a game
  15. Most of the sows caught at the trout parks come from the brood pens at those places or from good old shepard of the hills hatchery. They have not lived very long in those rivers. Look at the rainbow that taxidermist cought from tany this spring, I guarantee it has lived for years in this river.
  16. Your float is certainly doable. If they continue the generation as it has been, it could be a pretty short float. During the high generation the gravel bars are pretty much underwater. If they are not generating, you could get picked up at the cooper creek boat launch and shorten you trip by several miles. Might be a good idea to bring a call phone.
  17. Is that the bridge at Kimberling City?
  18. Hi Clay That is a beautiful fish. Give us some details. G 2 featherlight? George
  19. I hate to think how many trout those herons eat each day. If you stocked Northerns or Muskies they would really eat up a lot of trout. Catfish? Interesting. I would think that they would hang in the lower lake, but perhaps that would not be the case. Only if it would have no effect on the trout fishing or trout feeding habits and food sources would it be ok with me. Has it been done in any other tailwaters across the country?
  20. Hey Trav You forgot to mark all of your hot spots on that map. Perhaps you are waiting to identify your new ones. Seriously, thanks for all of the reports and input on lower tany, I have never fished below roark creek but one of these days I am sure I will wander down. George
  21. I use 2 lb low vis green,. although with as stained as this water is, I am sure that 4 lb would work just as well. I use the 2 lb so that I can throw a small jig as far as possible without changing spools.
  22. Got down Sunday by about 10:15am to fish with my brother Bob and Mom and Dad. Fishing was good Sunday for the first hour until the generation kicked in. After that we picked up a few bouncing jigs off the bottom from the big hole down to lookout, but there was no real consistant bite for us. Monday morning was truely outstanding. I caught about 10 with a very small rapella using my new g2 spinning rod, which I must say is one of my favorite ways to fish. I love that rod. I used an eratic retrieve and they really hammered that lure. I would guess over half of the fish I caught were recent stockers , but I picked up a couple nice browns and a few colorful bows. Bob and my parents were also doing well fishing midges, and around 9:15 I picked up my flyrod and we went up below lookout island. They were really sucking those midges down, nice trout and hitting on almost every good cast. It did not seem to matter which color I tried, red, black, green and orange all worked well. They turned off about 45 minutes after the generation started. Went back out about 5pm and picked up some trout in heavy generation. There were many fish hitting on the surface in the evening. Not midging, but attaching something on top of the water. I could not get them to take the few dry flys that I tried, but I am not an experianced dry fly fisherman. I would be interested to see what some of you might suggest for these fish. All in all, well worth the trip to fish with my family. George
  23. Fishing below the dam?
  24. Terry Thanks for sharing, that was great, especially on Mothers Day. George Also , thanks to everyone who writes these articles.
  25. Clay Used your rod crappie fishing this weekend and it is also a really sweet crappie rod. I was throwing that 1/16 oz jig a mile and the action was just great. I may have to get my wife one as well, I let her use it and she liked it too. What did you say your favorite color of the rod was? George
