The Dems are the ones who are so interested in race. From the NY Post A man at the center of a voter-registration scandal told The Post yesterday he was given cash and cigarettes by aggressive ACORN activists in exchange for registering an astonishing 72 times, in apparent violation of Ohio laws. “Sometimes, they come up and bribe me with a cigarette, or they’ll give me a dollar to sign up,” said Freddie Johnson, 19, who filled out 72 separate voter-registration cards over an 18-month period at the behest of the left-leaning Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now. “The ACORN people are everywhere, looking to sign people up. I tell them I am already registered. The girl said, ‘You are?’ I say, ‘Yup,’ and then they say, ‘Can you just sign up again?’ ” he said.

Hey Sparkle I am a conservative dude, but we Republicans had control of both houses before the midterm elections. Our Senate and House, both partys, failed miserably in this deal to protect our financial system, and now they are going to control the whole thing. I am perfectly willing to lay a lot of blame on the Dems for getting this whole ball rolling, but regulations on investment banks were relaxed at this time as well. Good old Jethro Kit Bond has his name high up on the F&F donation list.

I agree JD, I think that arguements are stronger when they tell the whole picture, and not just the point that supports the case that you are trying to make. I think that Obama was more of an observer of this situation and his group (ACORN) benefited from this situation, but he was not a player. He has never been a player, and that may be the scariest thing of all.

He and his wife are teaching to infect the world with their radical ideas. I can't explain how such a person gets a public education job. Depending on what those felonies were, and if your friends are sorry for having committed them(which Ayres is NOT), I would evaluate those things before I passed any judgement on you. It would not make you a felon, but I would have to question your judgement. That being said, I am all about forgivness to some one who is truely sorry. It is hard to get thru this life without making mistakes and hurting people. Peace George

So why ask the question? If someone is bombing government buildings or abortion clinics it does not matter if they kill anyone, they are reckless crazy people who could kill people and should be locked up for life, not teaching at Northwestern or the U of Chicago. I wonder how the media would react if Mcain had a fund raiser at the home of an unappoligitic abortion clinic bomber or attened a clan church? You must admit, the double standards are stagering.

I agree that the Dems are responsible for the creation of these lending vehicles, but if this problem were just limited to poor people who could not make thier house payments it would be easy to solve. These lending practices infected the entire market and alteration of rules that allowed investment banks to get into the mortgage business let this blossom out of control. Both parties are to blame for that. Middle level home owners borrowed out more than 100% of the equity and spent it on new cars and consumer goods. Rich guys got 100% loans on 4 new $1,000,000 houses in a 10 unit subdivision(I saw this myself), speculating on additional appreciation. All of these lenders thought that they could insure these things and leave someone else holding the bag.

Dano I could not agree more, I would much rather talk and think about fishing. This whole deal make me very sad. The proplem is that the stakes are so much higher now than they have ever been. There is talk from both parties about the good old US Gov. taking over our economy, action on bailouts and buying banks. The road to a socialistic society has been greased by this financial crisis and we have to think about that and how to stem the tide. I know which side will push us down that road faster. I found this at the time of the Bush Gore election in 2000 and thought it true then. How about now? The Fall of the Republic. At about the time our original 13 states adopted their new constitution in 1787, a Scottish history professor by the name of Professor Alexander Tyler had this to say about "The Fall of the Athenian Republic" over 2,000 years previous to that date. .................................................. The Fall of the Athenian Republic. "A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse (generous gifts) from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, (which is) always followed by a dictatorship." "The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been two hundred years. These nations have progressed through this sequence: From bondage to spiritual faith; from spiritual faith to great courage; from courage to liberty; from liberty to abundance, from abundance to complacency; from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependence, from dependence back into bondage."

This has been out for a while, the story does not seem to have any traction as far as the media is concerned. He has a registration of birth at a hopsital in Hawai, but not a certificate. One story is that the airlines would not permit his pregnant mom from leaving Kenya at her advanced state. Perhaps Dan Rather will persue this with the same vigor the he pursued Bush and his Guard service. Do you think? Don't hold your breath on this one.

So Chief, if no one was killed would it be ok with you? Dohrn is Ayers wife. Weatherman: bombs, rage and revolution Weatherman was a revolutionary communist sect that split from Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) in 1969. Weatherman's founding document called for a "white fighting force" that would be "akin to the Red Guard in China" to work with the Black Liberation Movement and other "anti-colonial" movements to bring about a communist revolution and destroy "US imperialism." Weatherman committed at least 40 bombings between 1969 and 1975. Targets included the Pentagon, the State Department and the US Capitol, other government buildings, military bases, police offices and corporations. Two of the group's primary leaders were Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn. Defenders argue that Weatherman was not a terrorist group, since it frequently tipped off police about the devices. Bill Ayers recently called the bombings "a dramatic form of armed propaganda" and claimed "no one was ever hurt." In reality, the relatively low death toll from the bombing campaign was mostly due to technical incompetence. On March 6, 1970, three members of Weatherman were killed when a powerful bomb they were constructing exploded prematurely. The device had been made from dynamite, wrapped with roofing nails to maximize casualties. Its intended target was a dance for noncommissioned officers and their dates scheduled for that evening at Fort Dix. The bomb that killed three in a Greenwich Village townhouse would have killed far more on a crowded dance floor. Larry Grathwohl, an undercover FBI agent who infiltrated Weatherman, later testified that Ayers had identified Bernadine Dohrn as the person who bombed a San Francisco police station in February 1970, killing one officer and injuring two others. The agent also said that Ayers had constructed a bomb made from 13 sticks of dynamite that the group placed in a Detroit police officers' association building. The agent contacted the police, who cleared the area, but the bomb failed to explode. Ayers' murderous intent was clear enough, however. According to the FBI agent, "Bill said that we should plan our bombing to coincide with the time when there would be the most people in those buildings." Ayers and Dohrn were never prosecuted for the bombings because of government misconduct in collecting evidence. In 2001, Ayers told the New York Times, "I don't regret setting bombs. I feel we didn't do enough." Befriending America's foreign enemies Even before Weatherman began its notorious bombing campaign, the group's future leaders had formed relationships with others who shared their hatred for "Amerikkka." Bernadine Dohrn made numerous contacts with Fidel Castro's Cuban Mission at the UN in 1968 and 1969, during which time she arranged for SDS groups to visit Havana. After returning from Cuba, Dohrn and others met with North Vietnamese and Viet Cong representatives in Budapest, Hungary, to discuss antiwar strategy on US campuses. Speaking a few days later at an assembly of revolutionary student movements at Columbia University, Dohrn reported that the Vietnamese communists she met in Budapest were working with US GIs in Saigon, attempting to obtain military information. As a gesture of solidarity, the Vietnamese who Dohrn met in Budapest presented her with a ring made from an American aircraft shot down over North Vietnam. Bill Ayers would receive a similar ring while meeting with Vietnamese communists in Toronto. He later recalled being so moved by the gesture that he "left the room to cry." He said, "I realized...America was an evil... and that I was... living inside the belly of the beast...." In January 1969, at the request of the Cubans and the Vietnamese, Dohrn assembled another SDS delegation to travel to Havana to plan what the Chicago Sun-Times called an "antiwar campaign during an eight-day seminar with representatives of Hanoi and the Viet Cong." Dohrn became a key planner in the founding of the Venceremos Brigades. Ostensibly a "solidarity" program for US leftists to visit and support Castro's Cuba, the group was actually organized by Cuban intelligence as a covert attack on US security. Cuban secret police offered the "brigadistas" money, advice and logistical support. Some Americans were also given guerrilla warfare training and instructed in the use of weapons and explosives. While they were in Cuba, Huynh Van Ba, a representative of the Provisional Revolutionary Government of South Vietnam (Viet Cong) advised his American allies to "look for the person who fights hardest against the cops." Dohrn stayed in telephone contact with Ba after returning home. In his autobiography, Fugitive Days, Bill Ayers recalled the "Days of Rage" protests he helped to lead in the streets of Chicago in October 1969: "...A small determined group suited up for battle...wearing...motorcycle or army-surplus helmets...goggles and gas masks, heavy boots and gloves...Most of us carried an arsenal of...steel pipes and sling shots, chains, clubs, mace, and rolls of pennies to add weight to the punch... our bonfire was full up, feeding on...splintered park benches.... The crowd roared...HO, HO, HO CHI MINH...Bernardine (Dohrn)...shouted, ‘BRING THE WAR HOME'." Speaking before an SDS "National Action" conference in Cleveland, Ayers called "Days of Rage" "a strategy...that's going to help the NLF [National Liberation Front] concretely." Ayers also led a group of rioters in an attack on the South Vietnamese Embassy in Washington. The mob broke windows, smashed cars, and threw rocks, sticks, firecrackers and bottles at the Embassy. At one point, a counter-demonstrator grabbed a Viet Cong flag from the group and set it on fire. Ayers proudly recalled that he had "burned my left hand and broke my ring finger rescuing" the flag. In contrast, Ayers was later photographed for a New York Times profile standing on a crumpled US flag. Working within the system Ayers and Dohrn were fugitives from justice for several years, living "underground" with assistance from sympathetic fellow radicals. When they emerged, both were welcomed into the ranks of academia, where they quickly rose to positions of influence. Ayers is now a professor of education and a Senior University Scholar at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He was recently elected vice-president for curriculum of the 25,000-member American Educational Research Association, the largest US association of education professors and researchers. Dohrn, who is now married to Ayers, is an Associate Professor of Law at Northwestern University, where she also directs the Children and Family Justice Center. She has participated in several key American Bar Association committees and boards and was a founding co-chair of the ABA's Children's Law Committee. Ayers now uses his academic position and political connections to promote his theories of "progressive" education, a topic on which he has authored several books. In 1995, Ayers co-founded the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, a radical education reform project created to award grants to Chicago schools and "education networks." The grant-making non-profit handed out well over $100 million between 1995 and 2001, but failed to measurably improve the Chicago school system. Where all the money went may never be determined, but some of it was used to fund projects run by Ayers' radical friends. For example, $175,000 went to former SDSer Mike Klonsky, who until recently was also a blogger at Obama's official campaign website. Before reinventing himself as an educator, Klonsky founded an American Maoist communist sect that worked with the Chinese communists. Among the organizations receiving funding from CAC were the community action group ACORN, the Arab American Action Network, Bernadine Dohrn's Children and Family Justice Center, and Trinity United Church, home base of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright. The man Ayers and his friends chose as CAC's first board chairman was a little-known 33-year old associate at a small Chicago law firm, Barack Obama. Ayers himself co-chaired CAC's other operational arm, the "Collaborative." Ayers and Obama held their respective positions for more than four years, working closely together during that time. They also served together on the board of the Woods Fund of Chicago for three years. Their association extended beyond working hours. In 1995, Obama launched his first political campaign, for the Illinois State Senate, at Ayers and Dohrn's home in Hyde Park. In 1997, Obama endorsed Ayers' book on juvenile justice, and Michelle Obama hosted a panel discussion of the book in which Ayers and Barack Obama participated. However, when asked to describe their relationship during the Philadelphia primary debate last April, Barack Obama recalled Ayers merely as "a guy who lives in my neighborhood."

It is important to be able to move the float around to determine how deep is right for the area or drift speed that you are fishing. Fly shop have cheap brightly colored floats that you put in place with toothpicks in a wide variety of sizes. These are what most people use. If you are fishing a tiny jig ( or midge) 2ft deep, you need to use as small a float as possible.
-
With a fly rod Phil has some micro jigs in his fly shop that are 1/256 oz I believe. These work well in no or lite water generation conditions. My favorites are pink, olive or sculpin colors, fished anywhere between 2 to 6 feet under a float. You can use a spinning rod withthese, but a fly rod gives a better cast. With more than 2 units running, I like to go heavier with a spinning rod, all the way up to 1/8 oz with a large split shot added when the flood gates are open. Getting close to the bottom is important IMO. Keep at it and get some fishing time in with someone who has some experiance.

Hey Taxi I thought that when Sarah was asked about the cause of the financial crisis, she could have used that to go into the history of subprime lending and really done a service to the country by taking some time to explain the mess. She also could have mentioned that Mcain and Bush called for reform as earily as 2003, but were prevented from doing anything by Barny Frank and Chris Dowd. Instead, she said "It is the fault of the lenders" I guess that that is the simplistic answer that the people who the Rebublicans are trying to court for votes want to hear, but I was very disappointed. Overall I thought that she did a good job, and that the moderator was also fair and did a good job.
-
I really like to hold that rod in my hand, and at times let the line run over my index finger so that i can really feel the bottom and the bites. If you are fishing a jig you may want to bounce it off the bottom sometimes as well. I am not sure what the regs say about using more than one rod. Good luck
-
There is a good one in further south just before you get to Bennett Springs, but that sounds like the wrong direction.
-
Hi Streamer You did not indicate if you wanted to fish with your flyrod or Spinning. With high water flow it is difficult to get the fly down with a flyrod deep enough, fish will typically be close to the bottom. At moderate levels of generation, the micro jigs that Phil sells are very effective with a flyrod, fished 6 or 8 feet under a strike indicator. With high generation, a 1/8 oz jig can be bounced off the bottom as you are drifting, this is my favorite way to fish with 4 units of generation. There are plenty of articles in this forum that you can read that will give you some ideas. Ask the people at Phils shop, they will typically have some recomendations and are great people. Good luck George

I believe that if you examine his positions, Obama is in favor of shuffeling

http://www.peteyandpetunia.com/VoteHere/VoteHere.htm For those who may not have seen it , worth a look. Al FYI Clinton did bomb several countries, in Africa when the Lewinski matter came to light for one. He does not get a pass from me on Bin Laden, all he had to do was give the word and we could have 86ed him.

this is the greatest country in the world, do not believe the nay sayers.

Why China is the most wonderful place on the planet. Haven't you been watching the Olympics?

I was lucky enough to be at the game I like them trying to go downfield more on offense, it should open the undernieth stuff qas time goes on. Great runnig game Juice was very good, I do not know why everyone in the national press seems to put him down, he was only a junior last year. Ill will go a long way this year. That being said, our safties were short on the blitzes and the corners had no help deep. Got to fix that. I am very upbeat about this team George

What I find very interesting is the idea that there are people who are undecided about this choice. Seems to me that if you are half way paying attention, you should be able to easily pick the candidate who fits your view of how our country should work. That fits all of the postings on this thread. So therefore, this election is in the hands of those who have not been paying attention. Strange but true. Also, even though I may disagree with your conclusions, this is America and I for one respect a well thought out opinion regardless of which side it is on. What bothers me is anyone on either side who engages in name calling. The lack of decency and respect for the office of President is a bad thing for our society and potentially dangerous for our country. One of these two is going to be our next president, and about half of us are not going to be happy about it. There are plenty of subatanative issues to disagree about. What I also do not like is anyone who tries to dismiss a legitmate question as a personal attack. For example, I think that Obama should answer to his past associations with his minister and Aires, as well as to his past accomplishments. Likewise Mcain should be required to answer specific questions about his support for Bush's policies and about his record in the Senate. Why they could not do this in a town hall format is beyond me, I thought that the saddleback deal was a great forum to get to know these men. George .
