I pulled up the map and that marker might be correct. I wonder why it was posted....did someone do something stupid up by the campground? Has anyone fished the mile of creek between the bridge by blue springs ranch and the bridge just off the highway? Any good water there? Mr. Lilley, The Blue Springs Map on the first thread is for barren creek. Here is a good one: http://extra.mdc.mo.gov/documents/area_brochures/8405map.pdf

I saw the weather forecast and had to sneak away from work. I figured with the weather this warm there would be a midge hatch and the dries would be working. So I made it down to my favorite creek, parked at the red gate, and made a dash for the double L hole. As a was tying up a griffith's gnat, a fish broke the water. My hopes held true with the gnat and a gold holographic crackleback. Ended up bringing ten to twelve to hand, and missed a bunch. There was one thing new to report. The hole above the double L was posted. A sign was put up saying it was the end of the public land and a tree in the creek was painted. I thought the public land went up to the waterfall hole. I'm wondering if the location is accurate or not. Any of the local fisherman know. My favorite hole is the next one up. Here is some fish porn... The second was has great color.

Thanks to everyone. It took me four times, but I finally got a nice looking parachute. I ended up tying the hackle to the post. One last question. How high should the post be when compared to the fly. I went with a the length of the hook shaft.
-
Will do. Let me know what you are tying.
-
That answer isn't acceptable. If I'm not matching a hatch but using it as a searching fly, any recommendations on size?
-
Thanks...another question. As I'm finishing the fly I catching the hackle during the tie down of the hackle and fishing the fly. It leaves my fly a little thinner in front of the post versus the back of the post. Is that an issue that I need to work on? Any tips? Thanks In Advance, MIC

Stupid question... What is a speck and why are they special?
-
Follow up question... what are the best sizes for small creeks and what are the best for rivers?
-
I'm tying my first parachute fly (an adams). After you wrap the hackle to the post, do you tie down the hackle to the post or to the body? Also, do you start the wrap at the top and work down or go up and back down? Thanks In Advance, MIC

All, I realize the summer fly swap did not end well. I promise not to let that happen this winter. Please feel free to join in and tie up some winners. ---------cut line----------- 1.... Swapmeister (Swap Host)- When you post your swap, give a signup deadline, and a deadline for the flies to be in. Give instructions on what type of flies to tie. Give a total on the number of tiers for the swap. Give a total for the amount of flies needed for the swap. Give your instruction for mailing in flies. I usually post my addy after I have all tiers signed up. But if you are uncomfortable posting your addy you can also PM your addy to them. When the swap is full post on the BB it is full so other tiers won't be waisting there time trying to join the swap. 2.... Swapmeister- when you receive flies from the tiers, let them know on the BB or PM them that you have received them. 3.... Swapmeister- once you receive all flies from all tiers sort them, get them all packaged up and deliver them to the post office in a timely manner. Notify all tiers either on the BB or by PM that you have mailed out the flies to them. 4... Swapmeister when the swap is over and all have received there flies, if you can, Post pictures of your swap or have someone do it. If noone is able to add a extra set and send that set to some who would be willing to do so. ****** Then mark your post as Swap Completed.****** ************************************************ 6.... Tiers- When you join a swap please adhere to the deadlines. Post what type of fly you will be tying. (I also like to post the recipe for the fly I will be tying.) Please use PM 0r BB with the Swapmeister for communications about the swap. 7 .... Tiers- either post on the BB when you have mailed in your flies or PM the Swapmeister. 8... Tiers- When mailing your flies, please send them in a strong enough and big enough box to protect them and to hold all of the flies you will be receiving back. Mark the box with your name and address and your on line nickname. Mail them at least 10 days before the end of the swap so they will get to the Swapmiester by the deadline date or earlier. 9.... Tiers- include in with your flies a self addressed envelope that is strong enough for the fly box you send and will receive back. Include postage (please do not use metered mail strips on return envelopes) or money (I do not recommend sending cash) in the proper amount to send the flies back to you. I also add Delivery Confirmaton to mine. I also put my online name on both envelopes. Plus the swap name. 10... Tiers- if you want your flies sent back to you Priority Mail be sure to include enough postage (best is to use stamps and not postage stickers) to cover the increased cost over First Class Postage. 11... Tiers- include with your flies a toe tag (small piece of paper) with the name of the fly, your name or handle, and your email addy so the other tiers can email you for the fly tying instructions. 12... Tiers- when you receive the swap flies back in the mail notify the Swapmeister on the BB or by PM that you have received them.

Sweetness.

Agree, I have one of those and love it.

Gents, this thread is about fishing techniques. Ah who am I kidding, keep at each other this is free entertainment.
-
We did, and back at ya.
-
Can anyone recommend a technique for fishing nymphs around root balls in the creeks. I know they hold fish but the only thing I ever catch is the tree. Thanks in advance.

I'm no expert, but I think it was at normal flow.

I made the trip down to Mill Creek. This time I focused more on productive holes versus exploring. I had a good day in the rain. I brought ten or so to hand with one nice one and this brute. The funny thing is I caught this guy twice. Once, right after I started and then three hours later on my last cast of the day. I know it was the same one because of a sore he had in his mouth. This is my largest Ozark wild trout by a long shot. Finished up with chicken strips and a chocolate pie from Made From Scratch. Overall a good day after X-mas.
