  1. Whooooo Hillbilly, backup the attitude train. I just made a statement of fact, with very little opinion (not much to it). Everything I said is exaclty correct, and you just repeated it. If you noticed, I didn't put any comments on his aspirations or agenda so its not fair to ASSume that I have the same opinion as Chief, Tim, or Justin (which by the way I don't). I sent a question for the commissioner directly to the show's website on a specific policy. I got some feedback that it was a viable question so I was disappointed it didn't get asked. But here is my critique on the show...if the Director didn't have time constraints, I would have rescheduled the Pro for another week and/or shorten the opening section. How often are you going to get a man of his position without the restraints you just talked about...not very often. You were "on point" to establish the stage with the questions you did. However, you could have had time ask some specific questions on policies sportsman (who you represent) care about, programs, changes for next year, etc.
  2. I just listened to the interview. Not much to it. All they asked him was bio stuff for him, his position, and budget. They ran out of time before they could ask anything specific.
  3. The Chief has a comment in his signature block saying he does river guiding. He knows the Ozarks well. QUOTING: CHIEF GREYBEAR Got time to breath, got time to fish A proud memer of P.E.T.A (People Eating Tasty Animals) When it comes to fishing, there is a fine line between passion and obsession. Now offering guided wade and float trips on select Ozark streams on a limited schedule. PM for info and availability.
  4. I had a pair last seven years.
  5. Hey John, Why do you thing "pink" worms work so well? Do they represent some type wild bug?
  6. There is the Three Springs Campground in that area. http://local.yahoo.com/info-40800284-three-springs-rv-park-campground-rolla
  7. The argument was that they were of no commercial value and therefore fell outside the commerce clause...therefore outside of Congress's authority.
  8. Man I wish it wasn't so far away. I would love to help with that.
  9. Well if we get enough...I'll take a vote and see who would want one of everything or two of half of them.
  10. I was told 20 was to much. So ten flies each.
  11. Man I wished they had the funds to do some of that on the smaller streams. I know Blue Springs Creek has some sections that could use some help like that. Well a wish in one hand and s*&( in the other...
  12. I asked a buddy of mine who hunts turkey for some tail feathers. He got his turkey, and I got more feathers then I can ever use. If you would like a couple send me a PM with your name and address.
  13. I started another thread on different Wolly color combinations. I didn't realize there were so many. I've always wanted to try to run a fly swap so I guess now is as good as ever. I assume I manage the list, collect the flys and shipping money, send out updates, and send them back out is that correct? Tie your favorite non-standard color (i.e. no black, olive, or grizzley). Those color's are ok if you like, but add flash, neon, crystal, or hot spots. Let's go with 10 tiers and twenty 10 flies each so we will have two of each. I hate being on the water with only one fly. Please include you receipe with your flies. I'll make a receipe list to send out with the returns. Tie by date is 1 Dec, and I'll have them to you by the 15th. What is a good figure for shipping? I would think a couple of bucks would work. 1. MIC - Purple 2. Flysmallie - Craw colored 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10.
  14. So just to follow up: All black All white All olive All ginger Ginger tail, olive body Olive tail, olive crystal body, grizzley hackle White tail, white body, grizzley hackle Olive tail/body, grizzley hackle All dark brown All grey Crackleback (I don't know what that is) All yellow Blue, reds, and orange Black and olive with peacock All purple Misc with different hot spots and tails.
  15. Found this read...some farmers tried to argue that a fish of no value was outside of Congresses authority to protect it. http://www.businessweek.com/news/2011-10-31/endangered-species-act-survives-challenge-at-u-s-high-court.html
  16. Did you fish the upper end by the spring or down in the park (starts with a ?
  17. Maybe small fish on small streams isn't so bad after all.
  18. For Sale - St. Croix Rio Santo Fly Rod, 7'6", 5wt Model RS765.2 - I used this rod for small water until I upgraded to a RPD custom. It is a great rod for the lower end models. It's collecting dust so no reasonable offer will be refused. For Trade - I also have a Cabela's Genesis 9', 5wt. I would trade both for a six or seven weight rod. Since both are starter rods, I'll be willing to trade and pay for fair value. Let Me Know, Mic
  19. Yes, but decided to try big water on the Meramec below the park. Fished for four hours and threw everything I had. I didn't even get a bite. I think I need to stick with small water... lot less to figure out.
  20. Well, I'm off work tomorrow and got a kitchen pass. Anyone want to hit some small water trout? Sorry for the late notice, but just got the KP. I'll keep checking up to around nine or so.
  21. What are your favorite Wooly color combinations (tail, body, and hackle)? I'm tying up a batch and looking for suggestions. Right now keeping it simple with all black and black tail/body with grizzley hackle. I've heard all white for smallmouth and purple works but know one knows why? Do you use mulitiple hackles?
  22. OB...Here is a good read you and your family might enjoy and/or learn from (sorry don't know your background). http://www.mo.nrcs.usda.gov/technical/forms/out/wildlife_info/Bobwhite_Quail_Habitat_Information_Sheet10_2006.pdf
  23. Let me stress...I was a teacher's kid, but grew up in a farm town. I remember the good and bad days my friends went through, the farmers are welcome to whatever they can get, and I don't offer them ill will. If I wanted it bad enough I would buy the hay bails made from the ditches, but tell them to leave it stand. If I was back home in NE Kansas that is probably what I would do. I would like to think that most farmers are stewards of the land, and if someone was willing to meet them half way they would save those key tranisistional spots for wildlife. I guess I'm not making my point well so let me try again... I hope that one day there is a financial motivation to leave great habitat (outside of CRP which comes and goes with the political environment). I'm looking for the win, win. Just like my title says... "What If?"
  24. I would think it isn't if you harvest the grass, it would be when you harvest. I would think in this environment you would rotate harvest so there would always be some cover. As far as the second link, the new biomass boiler can use this grass mix (and it was kind of cool). And the price of corn, the grass would be grown in the unproductive areas where the grass would be more cost affective (as I understand it).
