    Congrats To Kid Sister

Don't feel bad...if I remember correctly they are a pretty small school...smallest in their district/league.
  2. Ain't stream fishing challaging. I can't wait to try that creek.
  3. I wanted to brag about my kid sister. Her Polo high school girls softball team won their regional tournament and she his headed to state. Her husband coaches the football team and he has him team with only one loss headed into districts. I wonder if a couple has taken two teams to state finals. Go Polo. Good luck.
  4. I use and like the house brand of floro at Feather Craft in St. Louis.
  5. Its time for MO to pass a law so that it is settled one way or another. I'm going to write my representative... oh yea, I live in IL. Crap
  6. My parents stayed there and really liked it.
  7. Which is upstream... Starting at Turkey Creek Campground or ending their. That sound like what I'm looking for.
  8. Agree, if you don't want the Hilton, it will work. I camped there and the shower rooms and public bathrooms are lacking. I didn't stay in a room.
  9. That is a load of crap. If you can canoe in it, you can walk in it.
  10. I remember that now... wasn't that when prominent forum member was wanted dead or alive for a while.
  11. I've been wondering that same thing for the small stream trout.
  12. New guy slash military transplant here... Where is shoal creek, and/or what trail/park am I looking for?
  13. Got it on Amazon for $8.50...thanks. Read the "Amazon Overview", and it sounds like a good read. I can't wait for it to show up.
  14. Can anyone suggest a spot or two where one can pack a backpack with gear, lunch, and water, hike to a creek, spring pond, or river, and do a little fishing away from the crowds. Don't care about fish size as much as the experience. I found a hiking book for trails within 60 miles of St. Louis. He has a hike into the Lower Rock Creek that flows into the St. Francis, a couple of trails/creeks in Hawn State Park, and the Cedar Glade Trail to the Castor River Shut Ins in the Amidon Memorial Conservation Area. Does anyone know about these? Thanks In Advance, MIC
  15. Pure Sweetness.
  16. Well you all were right, the wade fishing isn't the best. However, I did catch my first smallie on a fly rod. Nothing to speak... an 8 incher but I broke the ice. I caught him on a olive woolly under the bridge. I also caught a hand full of google eye in a slack water hole down from the public canoe launch. I launched a creek chub over my shoulder on a back cast at the camping area, but don't know if I can count that. There was some good looking water below the bridge and across/above the public canoe launch, but I assume all the people at Ozark outdoors keep the numbers down. I thought for sure I would catch a blue gill or something along the rip rap by the Onondanga boat ranch (above the bridge), but not even a minnow to look at. So much to learn about fishing moving water, but that is half the fun. I can't wait for the spring and summer. Oh well, time to get back into the trout. My wife had a nasty head cold so I stayed close by and didn't make it over the Huzzah. Thanks again for the advice.
  17. I just spent a four day weekend at this sweet little get away. The campground is well laid out with room between full concrete pads. The park has electric, electric/water, and no connection sites. The facilities are somewhat new, in really good shape, well kept, and have warm showers. My family hiked the Deer Run Trail (2.75 miles), and it was pretty sweet with a well maintained trail and great views. The park store is lacking, but Ozark Outdoors is right across the river for supplies. The cave itself is first rate and one of my favorites so far. The wade fishing at the site isn't the greatest.
  18. Can I get some of that otter fur? I would love to see what kind of flies you could tie with it?
  19. Is this what you throw? http://flyanglersonline.com/flytying/fotw/060500fotw.php
  20. Any wing or hackle...or just peacock and a bead?
  21. Cock or hen hackle? Were you fishing them dry?
  22. The very first fly tying kit I got had some cheap red grizzle hackle. I wanted to tie something for river blue gill and whipped this up. I think I saw something like this somewhere so I don't think I can take credit. I tied one on a jig head to throw with my spin rod in case it actually works. Hook: #10 Wet Fly w/lead wrap Thread: Black Tail: Red grizzly hackle Body: Peacock herl wrapped with black thread Hackle: Red grizzly with grey hen hackle over it Wish me luck.
  23. Well maybe I can get into some blue gill.
  24. I'm headed down to Onondanga Cave State Park for Columbus Day weekend on Friday. My family wants to focus on hiking instead of floating this trip. I was going to try to get some wade fishing in the mornings while they sleep. Are there any good holes in the park's river front. Post or send me a PM. I realize this is a fishing forum, but feel free to recommend a good hike...specially if there is fishing on the way:lol: Al, got your PM will be looking for transitioning fish. Thanks.
  25. Let me clarify my point...it is not that drunk floater hurts the ecosystem. My point is he doesn't care if other things do. His/her money is not going anywhere else if the fish are smaller, if the water is a little off color, if spawning grounds are covered in silt, or if the hell-bender dies out. He will back on every year to get away from life and party a little. You support this crowd for a living. If you were losing 20% of your business because your floaters were concerned that water wasn't as clear as it used to be, would you be more vocal about development. If they were scared off by an ecoli breakout, would you complain about horses in the river. Of course you would. If 80% of your profit came from people fishing, would you be concerned about complaints of the aluminum hatch. I've read your posts, I know you care about the environment. Why would it be a bad idea to figure out how many rental canoes are already on any given river and cap it now....versus...waiting 10 years from now when there really is a problem. My follow up point is there has to be a balance where the partier isn't affecting the fishing and fishing isn't affecting the partier. We won't find that balance because the money will never be balanced.
