  1. LMAO funny...
  2. Down at Bennett, I heard most people were having better luck with smaller patterns. I also heard Chernobyl Ants were working well. I had a bigger pattern that I bought in STL on the way down. They would only nose the fly, and I never got a hit. I would agree, smaller is better. Reference the Idylwilde pattern, I would lose the legs and go with orange dubbing drawn out with a dubbing needle or Velcro.
  3. Doing some quick research, and according to a hatch chart I found the black caddis is a Chimarra aterrima. Looking at pic the nymph, it is yellow or orange, so one might want to try yellow and partridge and orange and partridge also. http://www.pbase.com/tmurray74/image/111032573
  4. I was reading about the earthquake and epicenter seams to be just east of BSC. Just wanted to make sure the creek was still running downhill? Hope all the locals didn't lose any alcohol in the shaking.
  5. Thanks for all the suggestions. I tried a lot of them as droppers, but didn't get a single hit. That's fishing.
  6. Personally, I like Reading's best..why...because if you imagine a fly shop in a movie, that is what it would look like. Plus...I love how Charlie can explain things like my high school physics teacher. You know he is right. You have no idea what he is telling you...but...you know if you can figure it out it is important. It always makes me laugh. I will share this secret that I learned last week. Fort Bennett, the general store outside the park, has a very good selection of fly tying materials. The guy at the counter may not know marabou from dubbing, but the selection was really good. Also, if he is not to busy, the owner at Larry's will show you how to tie a fly. Basically, I use all of them.
  7. So jealous...thanks for the report. Will you tell us what fly you were using?
  8. Gents... Don't fear the Mic'ster. I'm mostly human.
  9. Crap...was that my outside voice...the man is right...stick to the middle of the stream.
  10. I made it down to Bennett for my annual trip with my Dad and some of my old teachers (my Dad is retired teacher). I had a great week with regular catches all day and through the week. I spent almost all my time in zone 1. Had my best luck with an olive wollybugger, BWO, and griiffins knats. A couple of tricks/patterns that might work for a while. If there is still a dark caddis hatch in the morning try a green and partridge on a greased leader. I figured this out on the last morning...don't know why I didn't try it earlier. Also, after the morning rush at the spring try walking a dry fly around the rocks. The water is up and the spring is forcing a current into the rocks. The trout are sitting under them and hitting bugs as they roll in. I also got some nice fish under the trees behind the spring. I caught my best one less then a foot from the bank. I also caught some nice fish including a double at Mill Creek on my way there. Pic is in the wild creek forum. Good luck and good fishing.
  11. I made it to Mill Creek (finally) on my way to Bennett Springs. Second cast I got my first double (one on a scud and one on a hare's ear). I had to take a pic because I knew some of you would question my honesty.... Finished with a great day on the creek, brought over 20 to hand in a few hours. Not bad for my first trip. So two Blue Ribbon creeks down many to go. Little Piney is next on the list.
  12. Does anyone know where this gauge is located?
  13. When I started tying I bought one of those starter packs. I never ended up using much of it, but it did come with Chinchilla Saddle. I'm finding the yellow tip feathers work great for hare's ear tails. I find it much better then using hare fur. Thought you might like to give it a try. Mic
  14. Is the private, resort, or public property?

    Waterfalls

    Those are sweet.
  16. Great...God Bless
  17. From the waterfall to the hwy.
  18. I have one and my dad has one. They are simply great rods...especially for the price. The customer service and the workmanship was first rate.
  19. Buzz, was the principle's last name Boyd? He was my teacher in high school (where my mom works), and he is a good man.
  20. I heard on the radio, the local radio station is taking calls looking for missing family. Try the Red Cross. By now, they should have an active list. MLD
  21. Yes, but up a little on this stream is just perfect.
  22. Sure would have liked to go because that is a great deal. Thanks for posting.
  23. I'm trying to mix dubbing for the first time, but having problems getting it to mix thoroughly. Any recommendations? Thanks In Advance, MIC
  24. Well made is down on my own for a change, and I was able to work slowly. I wasn't having much luck until I put on a metalic blue scud, and then the heavens opened. This ended up being my best day on BSC... catching over twenty fish and three above average. The water was perfect. Sorry for the bad pics, I was using my cell phone and trying to hurry to get the fish back in the water.
  25. Headed down first thing in the morning. I hope to be on the water by nine. Just finished up some new flies, I want to try out. I'll be in a silver Civic on the upper half. If your there say hi. MIC
