Morgan, I notice you are from Columbia (Tiger country). I'm from Mexico. Don't know if you realize it or not but you have a great fly shop there-Clearwater-across from Memorial cemetery. They can give you lots of help. Also, some great scissors, in my opinion, are the small Fiskars brand. You can get them either at the Columbia Michaels or Hobby Lobby. Can't recall which but I think it is Michaels. They run about $12 but Michaels often run the 40 or 50% off one item coupons in the paper. These things stay sharp forever. Dave

Well, I will throw my .02 in for what it's worth. I started off copying Story's pattern but have since gone with a pale yelllow body, either floss or dubbing, and a pale yellow grizzly hackle. I sometimes add the herl on the back and sometimes leave it off. My most productive way to fish it is on a sinking line near the bottom. I've tried a lot of variations but always go back to this one as a last resort. Dave

fishenwrench, The press release indicated that the higher octane gas would not be required to contain alcohol-that was what I was going by. However, I was originally under the impression that the bill required that all gasoline would contain 15% alcohol starting in 2008. Guess we will have to wait and see what happens. This whole thing is nothing more that poloticians sucking up to the farmers. There is more and more evidence coming out that using ethanol is going to create more problems than it solves and it's not going to make gasoline cheaper. Dave

Well, I did a little more research (should have done this first I guess) and came across this press release. Apparently the higher octane gas will not contain alcohol and apparently the lower octane won't either when alcohol is higher in price than gas-which I expect will be most of the time. Glenn, I guess my next question would be will the higher octane gas such as 91 be harmful to older motors. I have a 1983 115 HP Merc in which I have always used 87 octane per the owners manual. I recently accidently put some 10% ethanol gas in my 15 horse Evinrude and after a short trip out noticed black colored oil on my garage floor (about a tablespoon amount). My marine mechanic informed me this was unburned fuel with carbon in it going through. So this brings the question-what are boaters going to do in Missouri where all gas is going to contain 15% ethanol starting next year? I've always read that alcohol is bad on outboards. Any thoughts out there on this? Dave

Greg, Sounds like some nice size on those fish-a lot more fun than those 10 inchers a couple of years ago. I've always had good luck in that stretch below the guage house stripping a Crackleback on a sinking line.

The one south of Steelville was Springrise. It's now private. Windrush is near a small town called Cook Station and is about 20 or so miles south of St James. They were both owned by the same family at one time I believe. I'm told Windrush is still open but have never talked to anyone who has actually fished there so was trying to get a little info on it. Not sure where to post this but will try here. Has anyone fished Windrush this year? This is a private area near Cook Station, Mo where you can supposedly pay for a day of catch and release. I'm not sure they are still in operation. At one time they also owned a nearby place called Sprinrise but it is now private. Just wondered if anyone has fished Windrush and if so how was it? Mark, A canoe would be suitable but I wouldn't even think of putting my bass boat in the Salt river. It's not that big although I imagine it is pretty high right now with all the rain recently. It will also be quite muddy. Dave

It was supposedly invented by Bob Gaston at Bennett. It is tied with a cream colored yarn from an old bedspread his mother-in-law was throwing out-thus the name. Some are actually tied with a small tail bt extending about an 1/8 inch piece of the yarn beyond the hook bend and then combing it out after winding the rest of the yarn (like wrapping chennile) up the rest of the hook. At times it can be a real killer at Bennett. Some say it merely represents fish guts but I've caught a lot on it in the winter season when no guts are present. Dave

I generally stay at the Brentwood Motel at intersection of Hiway 5 and I-44. It's relatively cheap and is clean, and has good beds and cable TV. Also, there is a Hardees across the parking lot for coffee and/or breakfast in the morning. Dave

About a dozen posts down I've listed a 1995 Ford Bronco for sale. I've dropped the price to $5900. If anyone is interested in a good four wheeler for hunting and fishing they can't go wrong on this one. It is in excellent condition body wise and mechanically, and it's priced $1500 below Kelly blue book value. There's a lot of good miles left in her. The only reason I'm selling it is I bought a newer vehical from a friend and I don't need two SUV's Dave

Mizzouflyfisher, Just saw your post on this. There is a shoe cobbler in Centralia (don't recall the name but think it is the only one in town) that will do this and does a pretty nice job. He did mine several years ago. I don't recall what he charged but it was not all that bad as I recall. Dave
