  1. Al is spot on. I'm always amazed how many people think the debt can be erased by cutting this and that and stop wasting money. But just mention cutting entitlements and they go crazy yet that is where the big money goes along with defense spending.
  2. I bought a used Citica from someone here last year. I'll have to agree with the others who like them. It's a great casting reel and I don't recall a single backlash on it. Dave
  3. Thanks for the reply but I'm a little confused. Doesn't Rt. 160 run east/west through Lamar? Is the lake the one a few miles west of Highway 71 just south of Rt. 160 and has a small boat dock on it? My sister-in-law lives in Lamar so I sometimes go there and was interested in fishing the lake sometime. Actually, I think I know which lake it is now that I think about it. It's the one on the east side of town that has the covered boat docks on it. I believe it is the city water supply lake. I've actually flyfished it many times from the bank as it is close to my sister-in-law's house. It's a great looking lake, just wished it had some rental boats on it. Thanks, Dave
  4. Those poppers look like a winner Wrench. I assume you are using craft store foam. Dave
  5. Where is Lamar lake. Is it the one in Lamar,MO?
  6. Larry's rents waders for $8 a day. Think Weavers also rent them. Dave
  7. Walmart in Lebanon sell some low priced hip boots.
  8. Make sure the Rooster Tails you use in Zone 1 only have a single hook point, not a treble hook. Only single hooks can be legally used in Zone 1.
  9. Anybody been to Bennett in last day or two? Was wondering what shape the water's in. I know it's been high, fast and off color. Wondering if it still is before going down next week.
  10. There's an interesting article in the latest issue of Rodmaker magazine on guide placement on spinning rods. The article was written by Tom Kirkman, the editor, and he claims that the first guide (the choke guide) is placed in the same spot regardless the rod length. That was using conventional guide placement, not spiral. I was surprised at that statement.
  11. A few years ago we were in the upper tip of the Door Peninsula in Wisconsin. There was a commercial smoker place there and we tried both the smoked salmon and the smoked whitefish. Although I preferred the salmon, the whitefish was very good.
  12. You can get small marine deep cycle batteries at an Academy store. Wal-Mart used to sell them but haven't in years.
  13. Sorry to hear that. I bought the same thing but haven't used them yet. I now know why they were on sale for 75% off. Have you tried sealing them in some way with epoxy? Guess that was why they were called H2O.
  14. Moon river Grill had some good lunch items. They had a half sandwich and soup or strawberry salad that was very good and reasonably priced. However, I thought their evening menu was pretty overpriced and the food nothing to get too excited about. Wonder what they will do with the theater. It's one of the nicer theater's in Branson. Have to agree that Dana's is a great BBQ place and they also have great burgers.
  15. I noticed the webcam has been unavailable the last few days. Guess they were installing the new telescopic lens.
  16. Well, I gotta eat a little crow. I went down this afternoon and tried a size 12 hook in the regular jaws and it would slip before I could bend it. It was plenty tight enough to tie on but not tight enough that I could bend the hook. It would hold tighter in the midge jaws which are what I use on all smaller hooks. I think the main reason you can bend a large hook in the regular jaws is that the grooves in those jaws prevent slippage no matter how much force you use. The grooves don't come into play on small hooks. $65 seems high for midge jaws. I was thinking I paid more like $30 or $35 for mine but that was several years ago. I'll be interested in how the new jaws they are sending you perform.
  17. Yea, I like the midge jaws. I use them for around size 12 and smaller. Have you tried cleaning and re-greasing the adjustment cone. Maybe you are not getting the cone adjusted down tight enough before clamping down the cam lever. Also, are you sure you are getting the midge jaw pushed far enough down when you change jaws. It needs to be pushed down far enough to fully engage the cam lever so it will draw tight. It will be interesting to see what the folks at Dyna-King have to say. Let us know. Dave
  18. Nick, Got a link to the Miracle fly?
  19. I've got the same vise and have not seen that problem. However, I use the midge jaws on the smaller hooks. In your second picture it appears that the hook is not placed far enough back in the jaws to hold well. Have you tried placing it farther back? On a second look it appears it may have just pulled out to the edge of the jaw and was originally farther back.
  20. Thanks Trigg. Which one will be playing in Columbia?
  21. Do you have a link describing the film? I recall seeing some info on it but forgot where I saw it.
  22. Thanks Birdwatcher. May have to get one at that price.
  23. Thanks Bird Watcher. I e mailed them and they estimated around $10 for shipping. I was thinking of getting one for occasional trips to the gulf coast for saltwater fishing. They said they had a lot of them on hand. You might let me know what you think of it when you get it. It does sound like a pretty good buy. I wonder why they discontinued those two models.
  24. You know what they say to do when work interferes with your fishing. Dave
