  1. This is my interpretation and I think it is correct. The max output for TRD is 230 megawatts or 15,100 cfs. When it says 200, that is in megawatts. They will be generating at 87% capacity (200/230) or roughly 13,000 cfs. Today looks like one of those all or nothing days. They will be ramping up from 7am to 10am with water dropping til around noon. Same in the evening for a bit. Of course they do vary from the projections occasionally. -Jerod
  2. I know this thread has been dead for a while but right now it is really easy to find a Lamson Velocity for around 50% off or $130. Lamson has replaced the Velocity for their 2009 model year and there are some real good deals out there. http://www.mrfc.com/MadisonRiverShopping/S...px?CategoryID=4 -Jerod
  3. I have seen a few nights like this where I was the only car in the parking lot even in the middle of summer. Those are the nights where something rustling on the opposite shore really gets my attention. -Jerod
  4. I was just trying to inject some humor. I am usually one of the first to bark about ethics and fishing. Not so much today. I dont care who you are, jokes in MSPaint are always funny. -Jerod
  5. I did some research and found a video on how to use them.... -Jerod
  6. One other quick piece of advice about staying warm in waders: Under no circumstances is it ever a good idea to drop one of those chemical hand warmers into your waders. Very bad things happen. -Jerod
  7. I fish in my breathables with a pair of the mid weight fleece Cabela's liners. They arent much over $30 if at all. On 99% of the days I fish with standard athletic socks. Occasionally on the coldest of winter days I will wear a mid weight pair of hiking socks. If you are fishing tailwaters what is below the water is usually not the determining factor in you getting cold. The water coming out of the dam is always around the same temp. Invest in a good warm hat that covers your ears and a good pair of gloves that stay warm when wet. -Jerod
  8. I will have to check it out. I am just outside Liberty on the north side, so it isnt super close. I believe that is a general theme for most of the trout fisherman in KC though. -Jerod
  9. I am trying to figure out a decent christmas gift for myself, or at least my wife is trying to get me to decide on one. First on the list is a new Sage Z-Axis, second a new Lampson reel, third is up for grabs. I feel like before I start really dumping $$$ into some of this stuff I should feel a bit more comfortable with my cast, like being fitted for custom golf clubs. Maybe the first step is a good instruction with a quality instructor. Are there any in the KC area that come to mind? This portion of the board seems dead, but it is worth a try. -Jerod
  10. I have a pair of Action Optics with the polarized amber lens that I really like. I picked them up at the Sunglass Hut in the outlet mall for less than $40. I do have one complaint about them. They seem to react to window tenting in vehicles quite a bit. If I am looking through tint or at a window that is tinted I often see a rainbow effect. I am used to it now but it was rather distracting for the first few weeks. One other very small complaint. Sun screen is eating the paint of the arms of the sunglasses. Didnt happen with my Oakleys, although finding Oakleys with polarized lenses was an issue when i bought them. -Jerod
  11. Fished wednesday afternoon and thursday. As usual the corps was nice enough to raise the water levels shortly after I got in town and left them that way until I left. Wednesday Started fishing around 2 oclock in the afternoon. One generator was pumping out just enough water to turn the water between outlet 3 and the guantlet into a nice riffle. I didnt get a lot of action between outlet 2 and 3 so I moved down into the riffles. Most of the other fisherman were out facing the gauntlet area and ignoring the shallower water behind them. I managed to pick up 4 fish in about 30 minutes. Most were taken on a size 14 burnt orange scud. I moved down closer to the deep hole and picked up a couple more fish on the outlet side along the slack water. Not a super productive day but definitely enough to keep me interested. The horn sounded around 5 and again about 20 minutes later so I headed back to the hotel for a nap. I wanted to do some night fishing but gave up after 10 when the water was still up. I even drove down to check myself despite calling the generation line first. Just wanted to make sure. Thursday Started fishing about 9 and headed down to outlet 3. There were a solid 4 generator running. Picked up a few fish in the flooded grass on a dark red san juan worm. The rest of the day was pretty futile. I didnt see many fish caught at all. Thursday night I did fish a bit at outlet 1 with about 5 other guys. Didnt have much luck in the high water. I did have outlet 2 to myself for a couple of hours from 7 to 9. I caught several on a pink egg pattern. Nothing of size. I was a bit disappointed with the high water. I didnt get to fish streamers like I really wanted to because of the water levels. -Jerod
  12. I was planning on trying both methods. I have been fly fishing for about 3 years now and am starting to feel comfortable enough to try droppers, specially flies with different weights. I generally post a report so i will be sure to let you know my thoughts. -Jerod
  13. I find this very refreshing news. Maybe there is a nice brown with my name on it later this week.......... -Jerod
  14. Some day I will bump into you on the water Tim instead of behind the counter. I read an interesting article the other day on fishing droppers and it made a small reference to fishing a scud behind a sculpin streamer pattern during the daytime with no indicator. The heavier streamer should keep the sculpin near the bottom and moving. I may have to give this a try. -Jerod
  15. I think this is being very overanalyzed and misconstrued. I think there is some information missing above and beyond this thread that would lead to the statements. I think calling someone classless without a full understanding of the situation is a bit harsh. -Jerod
  16. My first rod fell victim to the door of my truck. I had it laid across the floorboard in two pieces and had to open the door and reach into the back to grab something. That caused the rods angle to shift a couple inches and left the rod laying where the length of the rod > the width of the truck. When I shut the door I heard the rod shatter. Went straight to the shop and bought a whole new outfit. I also bent a ferrule on my new rod when i had it leaning against the tailgate of my truck. When i sat down on the tailgate to put my boots on it caught on the ferrule and bent it a bit. Luckily it didnt break the rod or the ferrule and I was able to bend it back. -Jerod
  17. This may be one of the first extended and predictible periods of low flow. I am anticipating crowds and trying to plan my trip around them. -Jerod
  18. I will be down fishing Wednesday afternoon through Friday afternoon. I am hoping the draw down and the sporatic generation will lead to some quality wading times. I will be fishing at night so feel free to stop by and give me a shout. Black F-150 with the Catch and Release plates. I need to start planning these trips ahead of time. The drive down from KC isnt exactly super exciting and with the price of gas it would be nice to car pool occasionally. -Jerod
  19. If someone is going to take the time to write out a good fishing report with complete sentences, good insight, and with information that is helpful to me I am always going to be appreciative. Most of the time it isnt that fun to sit down and type one of these things out. I usually end up typing mine while I sit in my cube angry on the inside that I am not back on the water. If you know Jeremy or have had an opportunity to chat with him about Taney and fly fishing in general you know the excitement and emotion he has about the sport. Occasionally that doesnt translate well in written text. Personally, my sarcasm doesnt translate well at times either. *Insert some joke about fat kids and powerbait* -Jerod
  20. Good report Jeremy. I am headed down this week and am really excited so see the condition of the upper lake. I realize some of those changes may be negative but that is part of the cycle. There will be ups and downs occasionally. I still cant wait to get out and get my waders wet. It has been almost a year since I last waded Taneycomo. I was down in August and although the extent was not apparent, it was very clear that there was going to be significant and long lasting damage to the fishery. I think we will see reprocusions of this summer for the next 10+ years whether it be in decreased quality of fish, habitat repair and restoration, etc.. -Jerod
  21. Is this good or bad for fishing on Wednesday and Thursday? Not 10 minutes ago I got approval for a couple days fishing from the boss and the other boss. I will be wading. -Jerod
  22. Maybe a couple of these signs too: -Jerod
  23. The wife and I will be in town for a well needed couple of days away from work. I plan on fishing as much as possible while leaving her stuck in the resort cabin with the baby. Sounds relaxing to me. I will be fishing most nights so feel free to stop by and chat. I drive a black/black new F150. -Jerod
  24. My wife and I are supposed to be in town late next week for some fishing. She mentioned that on Kansas City news this morning the Springfield area is predicted to get 6 to 12 inches of rain in the next week from Ike. It may not be until January before we see wadable conditions again. I will still be fishing this week, just maybe closer to the outlets than I like. -Jerod
  25. The wife and I are trying to decide if a late week trip to Taneycomo will work out. An area resort owes us a couple nights stay thanks to some very inconsiderate sales people. We were thinking about cashing that in thursday and friday nights. With the remnants of the hurricaine blowing up through southern Missouri how is this going to impact water levels? Am I better of heading down this week and fishing through some warm rain showers, or waiting a week and dealing with the possibility of increased generation from this week's rain runoff? How long does it generally take for a significant rain event to make its way into Table Rock and impact flows? I dont mind the rain being fair complected. Better than dealing with a blazing sun anyday. -Jerod
