Rent A Trolling Motor?
Jack Jones replied to Jack Jones's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
Thanks guide. I'll look into it. -
I've been quietly watching this thread, but guess I'll chime in now. As the resident left-wing liberal here, I must say that the sad fact is we are on a downward spiral. One that I can only see ending in the destruction of this country and the establishment of a new form of government. More than likely it will be more dictatorial than the current plutocracy we live under is. The poor will suffer more than ever. The meager will eat the crumbs the wealthy throw them, and the wealthy will simply rule according to their whims. Mitch, the Baby Boomers wouldn't have saved us. They couldn't. They're the ones who cleaned us out. They took all the plans and ideas that made their parents comfortable and reasonably secure, and completely scuttled them. Defined benefit became define contribution. Guess what? They didn't have the money to contribute! They spent it all in those first 50 years buying bigger and bigger houses, toys and gifts for their kids, and paying their kids (mostly) useless college educations. They learned NOTHING from their parents about thrift, sharing, and planning. They were greedy and taught their kids to be. Now that generation will reap what they sowed in the next 10-15 years, and their children, who they spoiled, will most likely turn their backs on them and throw their hands up while they simply try to get by. The problem with a consumer economy is that they can't last unfortunately. When no one has the money to buy anything, the consumer economy grinds to a halt. Like it is now. The wealthy can support some industries for a while (technology, some automotive, and some real estate), but not the majority. The few industries growing, such oil and health care, will bottom out soon when the majority of people can no longer pay for their products. Any adjustments that are made will be at the expense of new growth. hate to tell you but there won't be any new jobs coming in the near future. Not en masse. Not without a major economic event to stimulate it. As far as that goes, why do you think the Republicans want a war so bad? They know it worked the last time we needed an economic boost. It might work this time. Plus, then they wouldn't have to share any of their wealth. Anyone who thought that this economy could be stimulated or fixed in one 4 yr presidential term is unrealistic. It took FDR at least 8, after the Great Depression. With respect to the debate, Romney did get one over on him. Obama was wholly unprepared. However, if you fact check what Romney said, the amount of lies, mistruths, and contradictions with his previous statements is nauseating. He now has a chance of winning, but God help us all if he does.

Rent A Trolling Motor?
Jack Jones replied to Jack Jones's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
Thank you MOGuy. That's what I was looking for. I figure that my Pack weighs less than the jon, possibly by half. As long as I can get a good three to four hours out of it I'm happy. Sounds like I better start saving for that set up. -
Rent A Trolling Motor?
Jack Jones replied to Jack Jones's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
Okay.. it's clear I'm not going to be spending $200 or more on a battery. The set up I was thinking was Minn Kota 30# Endura. Maybe even a Bass Pro Prowler. What is the formula for determining how long the battery will last on the water before needing to be charged so I don't stay out too long and have it die on me? I've looked it up, but haven't found something simple enough to calculate it with. -
New Paddler's Guide To Missouri Is Out!
Jack Jones replied to Stoneroller's topic in Conservation Issues
I would absolutely love to see the MDC books, guides, etc... go digital and buy them online, download them to a Kindle or something similar. -
I would support this thread. I like to hear where people are and have hiked. Always nice to have pointers on whats worth seeing Especially places outside the state parks. Maybe in conservation areas.
-
That toxic waste spillage would explain a lot........................... Seriously, it is sad how poorly some people treat the resources in their own back yard.

What Invasive Species Are In Your Area?
Jack Jones replied to Clayton Will's topic in Conservation Issues
small children without supervision at the trout parks. -
I'd find this topic interesting if we could start a forum on it. I like shrooms but have no idea on finding them myself. Like Daryk, I've never not bought them.

What's Burrowing In My Yard And How Can I Kill It?
Jack Jones replied to Jack Jones's topic in Gardening
Guess I'll start with killing the grubs. Then go from there. And if all else fails....... -
I've got something creating serious tunnels in my back yard and side of the house. It's to the point where when I mow, I can feel the rise and fall of the mounds. Also, my foot sinks in sometimes when walking. I've seen small starter holes about 2-3 inches wide on top sometimes. It's pretty bad. Before I call out a pest guy, I figured I'd check here first. So....any ideas? How to kill it? Keep in mind I have three dogs that use the back yard regularly, so I'm very very wary of any poisions.

Does anyone know an outfitter or marina around here where you can rent a transom mounted trolling motor? I would like to try it out on my Pack. It's got a homemade motor mount that I took off. I would just have to mount it again. I'm curious about it, but not curious enough to go out and spend $200+ on a trolling motor, battery, and charger. Mostly, I would love to see how it performs on lakes so I could putter around Fellows, Lake Springfield, or maybe even Pomme.

Stopped at the park this Friday afternoon between 3:30 and 7:00. Did real well below the dam and before the bridge of Black Beauty midges and rusty midges. Also got a few on an olive woolly. Last few were caught on a disco midge. I learned a few things today that were totally attributable to my own idiocy. 1. Put your net on a retractable cord. Mine was on a single elasic cord, clipped to my waders. I absent mindedly forgot to clip it back on after netting a fish and watched it float away. Which leads me to...... 2. Use a wade stick and watch for drop-offs. In attempting to retreive my net, I stepped down deeper than I wanted and the water crested my chest waders, dowsing me inside. Let me tell you, it was not a pleasant day to wear wet clothes while wading in a cold river. By 7:00, I was freezing. Luckily I was coming back from the conference and had a change of cloths in my trunk. Otherwise, it would have been a cold ride home. Oh yeah, I also caught a sunfish on my rusty midge. I was pretty shocked. I'd never seen one that far up at Bennett. So tomorrow, going to buy a retractable leash for that net, and possibly a wading stick. May invest in some common sense and brains if I can find them because I've worn mine out, but they seem to be in short supply these days.

New Paddler's Guide To Missouri Is Out!
Jack Jones replied to Stoneroller's topic in Conservation Issues
Can anyone confirm this or have a copy of the new one? I've asked several conservation folks and they said it has not been updated and there are no immediate plans for a new one -
Ended up at Finger Lakes this evening. Here's two of the many I caught on a black popper and Jitterbug.
-
Here's from this afternoon at Perry Phillip's Park. Wish I had taken a pic of those gills'. They were good size and fought harder than the bass.
-
No buzzbaits or spinnerbaits with me. Some plastics and some small cranks. Mostly fly gear since I stopped at Bennett on the way up and will again on the way back. I did get to Perry Philips Park this afternoon for about an hour and a half. Pulled in about half dozen bluegills on poppers. Switched to 4" finesse worms and pulled in about 4 smaller largemouth from the weedbeds near the dock. Have a two pictures from that. I'll post those a bit later when I upload them. Now I have to figure if I want to go back there tonight, or check out Finger Lakes....

Awesome article. Informative and descriptive. That's how you write a fishing article. I've never used anything smaller than a size 18, but might have to try.
-
Decisions, decisions. One more evening up here and I'm debatin between Finger Lakes SP and Ashland Lake. Gunner (or anyone else), what's your experience at Ashland Lake?
-
Went to Lick Creek tonight. Came up with a few bluegill on poppers and one bass on a plastic worm. Gonna try Finger Lakes tomorrow night.
-
I'm not there often enough to really gauge it. The water appeared fine, not too low where I was. I was wading down near the first bridge/dam and i was in a good 3 1/2 ft of water.
-
I did Finger Lakes last year. It was slow going but I pulled a few in. Was hoping for more options but if no one posts, I'll probably go there again.
-
I got there about 3:30 and fished right below the dam, near the bridge. Tried cracklebacks, which usually work great for me at Bennett. Not today. Switched to buggers and took one on an olive bugger. Most of my success came on zebra midges and brassies size 18 and lower under an indicator. Pulled in about a dozen but nothing of size. Most were between 8 and 12 inch. One was practically a fry, measuring about 4 or 5 inches. I did find out the part of my waders that I Shoe Gooed a few weeks ago is again. Slower but still letting water through. Right at the crotch too, lol. Going to try and go again Friday afternoon. May not have time to re-seal but heck, a wet cold crotch is so worth it!!!

Hello: I'm stuck in Columbia for seminars today and tomorrow. Out at 5 pm. each day My hotel is right near I-70, 10 miles south of Finger Lakes. Are there any recommendations on places to fish without a boat around here the next few nights? I have both spinning and fly gear. I was thinking of checking out Lick Creek CA. Any info on that?

I'd wish it on the Cowboys......with a vengeance!
