  1. Just noticed tonight I spelled the title of my post wrong.... DOH!
  2. I agree Al. That pretty much sums it up. However, I'm sure we'll be going through it again fairly frequently, LOL! Them landowners and fisherman need reminders periodically.
  3. When I stayed there for a conference I fished the bank at Finger Lakes State Park. It's not a river, but you can canoe/kayak it and there are definitely some nice bass in there. It was only about 15 minutes north of the Bass Pro in Columbia.
  4. From speaking with the elected prosecutor today, it seems that she made no public statement, but did provide guidance to Sheriff Kyle in that she concurred with the county's attorney who wrote an opinion letter. My understanding of the opinion letter from the county's attorney is that the waterway is "non-navigable", and they are interpreting to mean that property owners do own the land to the middle of the river, subject to the right to portage obstacles. So no, the banks and the 'high water mark' are not areas you can be. Also, the no parking signs along the county road are proper since it is county propery. So if you paddle up to the dam, I suppose you could take out, climb the bank to walk around and then put in again without having a legal issue. I drove there today to look, since I'd never been there. I took Canyon Rd to the gravel parking area under the bridge. I didn't see any major issues. The paint on the rocks was faded. No police were there. There were a few people and cars, and no one seemed to be misbehaving. Maybe it's a weekend thing. I'd like to see if I can get a copy of that opinion letter, and may look into filing a Sunshine request. So that's all I know!
  5. Just saw this posted on Craigslist: "You read correctly. We got the call yesterday afternoon. The prosecutor's office has more thoroughly reviewed the situation and the precedent-setting Missouri Supreme Court case Elder v. Delcour and declared that Lindenlure is public up to the ordinary high water mark. In laymen's terms, this means the dry banks are public up to the point where the grass and vegetation begin growing. In addition, the prosecutor's office has informed the Linden home owner's association and instructed them to stop harassing visitors and to stop smearing purple paint on the boulders near the bridge. As it is Memorial Day weekend, we would like to invite everyone to come down to the Lindenlure dam for a sort of "grand reopening" to the public. It was a long difficult fight, but the rich snobs in the Linden HOA have finally been given the message that the law applies to them just like the "riff raff" they've been trying to keep away from the river. So come down this weekend and enjoy your legal recreational use of the river once again!" Whether it's true or not, I do not know. I was going to call the PA, but they close at 4:30. I've got to be at the Courthouse tomorrow morning anyway, so I'll see if I can find out for sure. If it is, that would be a nice treat!!
  6. JR, is Iron Bridge simply the bridge over 248?
  7. I took the motor mount off. I took it out tonight for a test run at Finley River Park in Ozark. Absolutely love it. It sits so much higher than my kayak. I had no problems with the stability. I didn't find it tippy. I do want to get a strap on seat with back rest. Also, I think skid pads would be appropriate. I'm going to research them and how to install tonight. Other wishes is a paddle that's about a foot longer. I agree the the reviews that the a small breeze moves it, but no big deal. It moves a lot quicker and with less effort than my kayak. I really think this was a good investment.
  8. That one stumped me too yaknar, glad you asked. I'm guessing it's catfish.
  9. Wow!!! Awesome fish. That is the very definition of frustration huh? Practice casting and comes up with that and a few. Experienced Angler, lots of gear.......Dink!. Congrats on a great fish.
  10. Thanks Gavin, I have no plans to put a motor on it just yet, but it is nice to have that option and to mount already made. The wood on the mount is old, so I'd likely re-build one with new wood. At least, I have a good template. Can't wait to get it out on the water. Hoping tonight.
  11. haven't tried it yet. I'm probably going to take that mount off this morning and just put it aside for now. Still thought it was pretty neat that it came with it. Also gonna get a paint scraper and try to take that registration sticker off.
  12. http://www.uncleroosters.com/Home_Page.html Stopped there on the way back from WIllow Springs today. Absolutely loved it. I had their special which was a smoked pork or chicken (I chose chicken) sandwich with two sides and a cookie for $6.75. Sandwich was a good size and their bbq sauce is tasty. I did sweet potato waffle fries and coleslaw as the side. They had a choice of cookies that came with it. I wasn't expecting much. However, it was a good size, cakey chocolate chip cookie that had been warmed up and was all melty. What a great way to end any meal. With the drink, it came to $9.17. Pretty reasonable I thought. I left very full but not over stuffed. Menu looked good and inside they had quite a bit of down home crafty type gifts that I'm sure the womanfolk would like. So...if you're ever driving along Hwy 60 and passing through Seymour, give them a try. I recommend them. Website is at the top.
  13. Big Thanks to GrizWilson for tipping me off about the Pack for sale on Craiglist. I blew off my chores this afternoon, drove to Willow Springs, and got myself a Used Old Town Pack! From what I was told about it, it was originally purchased in Minnesota, then the current owner bought it and used in Arkansas only a few times before giving it to his son-in-law to sell off. The son in law seemed to be in his 60's and mentioned his father in law was a too elderly to use it. The Pack came with a trolling motor mount already put on the back end. It looks old, and so I may replace it. But it makes a good template. The registration sticker on it is from Minnesota 2003 so the boat is obviously at least 10 years old. The bottom appeared in good shape. Very few scratches. A few gauges as you can see in the photo. He threw in a paddle (not the greatest), and a new wooden web seat that was in an LL Bean box. All of this for $350.00. Well....$360 actually since ATMs don't let you take out odd amounts and I wasn't about to quibble about change. So....pics below for viewing and I cannot wait to get on the water tomorrow. May take the motor mount off for now though. If I put one on, that's down the road a bit when I can cobble together the $$$$ for motor, battery, etc....However, that might be kind of fun for Lake Springfield and Fellows Lake shoreline. Now I just need to name it and christen it.....have to dig out a bottle of Boone's Farm to smash on the hull, LOL!!! Time to get back to chores and mow though. Postscript:::I only have a handwritten bill of sale. Don't even know if it has the price on it. Don't have the original manufacturer's statement of origin. Anyone who has experiencing registering boats under this type of circumstance, feel free to post or PM on what is needed to do so for when/if I do decide to put a trolling motor on it. Was thinking maybe the Minnesota registration sticker may help with that if I called whoever does their registrations. But given the age, they my not have the records.
  14. BIG PROPS TO THE GRIZ!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is no longer for sale since it's sitting in my garage!!!!!!!!!!!! Will put up separate post about it shortly.
  15. Man, I used to try all of that when I was a teenager. Used to get this stuff that was anise scented. I never noticed a difference back then. However, I wasn't as serious about fishing as I am now. I suppose when I head out to Wally World to pick up some plastics this weekend, I'll check out what's there in the garlic scent. Depending how cheap I'm feeling, maybe I'll give it a try? Or I could just dip them in my spaghetti sauce. That way they'll have the garlic and the red of the tomato might look like blood in the water too!!!!
  16. I'd be interested in those parking spots too. I've never got on that water anywhere other than the city park in Ozark. Sure would love to try it.
  17. Mitch, it's a nice concept but I wouldn't know where to begin. SInce you appear to do so, care to give references to websites that sell products for such, and/or maybe discuss the process, cost of investment, etc..? Probably want a new thread for it so we don't jack this one, but that would be an interesting topic.
  18. This gentleman has posted on Craigslist that he builds wooden canoes and kayaks. His name is Kenneth Canady. I've emailed him back and forth. He quoted a price and had a model in mind. He doesn't seem disorganized. I ran him through Case.net and besides a failure to maintain insurance ticket that was dismissed, all I saw were a few credit card judgments. Does anyone in the Branson area know him personally and could maybe speak to his character/abilities? I understand that posting anything about him publicly may leave one open to liability so feel free to PM on this one. This seems like it might be a nice alternative to the Guide 119 or Pack, and I'm just trying to gather more info before I would committ to something like this.
  19. Makes sense. Never fished them before actually. Most of the plastic worms I've fished were pretty lightweight.
  20. I see a lot about the weightless. How are you folks able to cast a weightless plastic any distance? I'm using a spinning reel. Is that the problem, or is there something I'm missing?
  21. One of my proposed summer projects is to put in a raised garden. However, I likely won't have the disposable fund for this until June, or maybe even July. Are there any vegetables that would be good to plant that late in the year? Also, what is a reasonable size for starters?
  22. Awesome on the personal record. And remember......it's not paranoia if those critters really are out to get you!
  23. Not asking you to give up your spot, but what's considered the middle James?
  24. Buddy, I'm gonna leave that last sentence alone......it'd just be too darn easy! If you end up having to forgoe the barter and break down/pay for it, I will say I've had a good experience at American Transmissions, 3636 W. Division St. Springfield, MO (417) 831-8060
