Hey Sharp...see thread http://forums.ozarkanglers.com/?showtopic=26590 [/CODE] Sadly... he passed.

I debated for half the morning and even came close to calling them. I didn't make the drive. Just couldn't justify it. I've learned over the years that if I wan t someting bad enough that I should wait a month or two then re-evaluate. It leads to less useless purchases and regret later. I will continue to review my options.

March 3Rd, Attack Of Megadon, The White Mega Worm!
Jack Jones replied to duckydoty's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
That is one gorgeous fish! I loved your description of technique and such as well. Makes me want to try chamois worms. -
darn RS you almost got me convinced. I was asking my wife if she was going to STL soon to see family so of have an excuse to go to the Dicks there.

Thanks.....It would be a good deal, RFD except living in the Springfield area, that would be a 3 hr drive for me. With gas, that would be adding close to $60 to the price in the end.

Oh wow...do I deserve heaps of abuse. I meant spinning v. baitcast. Please beat me repeatedly for that one. I have a spincast, but it's a cheapy Zebco I got for Father's Day when my daughter was 5, LOL. No....I have two Bass Pro spinning combos. Admittedly, they were the cheap ones. I looked. They are the Stampede rod/reel combo with 5.2:1 ratios on the reel. Assuming the rod is relatively worthwhile, I'll likely just upgrade the reel right now. I absolutely hated those reels. Please....forgive my incredible idiocy on this one guys I am not ready for prime time. I'll check out the Abus at Walmart.

So I've been re-reading posts on baitcast reels and bass/smallie fishing here in the Ozarks. The non-fly rods I own is a 6' med action spincast rated for 6-12lb test. It's a Bass Pro budget model. I also own a smaller spincast for lighter lures, same brand. Is there going to be anything I can't throw well with my spincast that a bait cast would improve upon? I've thought about upgrading to a baitcast rod/reel since last summer but I'm not sure it's necessary. Basically, looking for a general all purpose rod/reel combo for when I'm not fly fishing that would be good for fishing the rivers around here. Would prefer to keep it under $125.

What Is A Good Canoe To Fly Fish From?
Jack Jones replied to Jack Jones's topic in Lodging, Camping, Kayaking and Caoneing
I've seen the rack extensions. I'm sure if I get a trailer hitch for the car that it would work. However, I don't have rails or racks on top. With my yak, I've been using foam and straps. I'm not horribly concerned about the paint job though. If it's secured well, there isn't much scratching anyway. As far as rod selection for fly fishing, does anyone think a smaller rod...like a 6' 5wt would be better suited for fly fishing out of a canoe? -
Woodman, that is impressive. How do you toughen them up to keep them from getting wrecked on rocks in the Ozark streams? I'd love to build my own but my woodworking skills rank just above a 5 yr old. Unless it's darn simple, I'll screw it up.

okay then....I do appreciate the input.

I currently have a Perception Kayak. I think it's an older model Prodigy. I'd have to look. It doesn't have a rear hatch like their website and compares mostly to their Perception Sport Charter models that they have now. Long and short of it is that while I've enjoyed it, I've grown not so fond of the whole sit in kayak/confined aspect. Looking for a canoe some time this year that I can handle. I'd prefer it be under 50lbs and on the smaller side since it has to fit on top of a Ford Focus because it will likely be only me cartopping, carrying, and using it. I was looking at the Discovery 119 on Old Town's website. I like the specs on this and I like the plastic seat. I also like the MRSP of only $600 new. Would likely look for a used one though. Does anyone have any experience with this Canoe on the Ozark waterways? Specifically, fly fishing out of it, etc?

Looks really neat. Kinda reminds me of the Porta-Botes. I'm still reviewing the manufacturer's website, but I notice there is a dealer in Murfreesboro, AR whose website advertises rentals of them for $90. That might be interesting to try one out.

Because you might be a liberal if...........................http://www.americanthinker.com/2012/02/a_guide_to_the_liberal_mind.html

You would get to name it....just don't call it the Micfly. Okay...my jokes are done for now.

Never tried blue. I've tried pink, orange, and olive. I haven't had too much success with orange or olive. Pink did okay. I imagine you would just follow the regular scud recipe you could find anywhere and use a blue dubbing for the body. Maybe through some flash in there. Scuds as a rule tend to chameleon themselves to the color of the riverbeds their in so I've mostly fished grey or tan. However, fishing experience always tells us that if something looks different, them fish will check it out. Are you thinking dark blue, light blue, aquamarine?

I do like it. I'm sure if you look hard enough, there's one for Dems too. While I am definitely a die-hard East Coast Liberal Democrat, LOL. I think that the majority on both sides are shady and that this season has brought about some of the worst behavior I've seen in years. Thanks for keeping it light Mic!

Okay....that's a plan. Now please share where this Walnut Springs is?
-
Drew, the only thing I can tell you is that I have periodically looked for the same and found very little out there on the used market. The lowest new one I've found is Old Town's Pack Angler and that runs almost $1,000.00. I figure for that price I can get a john boat, trailer, and trolling motor. So if you find a good source, please share and good luck to you!

So....wading and fishing in my speedos is out too?

So what does anyone think about the chances of either (A) asking the AG's office to address the issue of a private HOA impeding a Missouri navigable waterway, or ( looking into a private civil suit against the HOA to remove the boulders alleging that the paint on them presents a potential environmental hazard, and creates an unnecessary risk of injury for those navigating the waterway? I've never fished that far up, nor been to this park of the river so I haven't seen it for myself. However, I am deeply opposed to this. Especially since the Sheriff's Office helped create it. According to this article: Christian County Sheriff Joey Kyle said his department and the homeowners met to find a solution. That solution resulted in the no trespassing notifications and was partially funded, Adams said, by the sheriff’s department. “The sheriff’s department paid for the signs,” Adams said. “It was also suggested to use the purple color.” http://ccheadliner.com/news/lindenlure-sees-the-color-purple/article_32ced4b4-25bd-11e1-8999-0019bb2963f4.html Might be worth dragging the Sheriff into a suit as well.

So the Klinkhammer is a dry? Fished as a dry? I'd never heard of it until I looked it up.

I was out late tonight and I did admire the weather. Part of me wanted to go down there and try my luck but it's a bit too far before a work night. Glad to read your report though. Sounds productive but tough.
