Saturday was good for me.. with what I was throw at them and still picked up 12-15... not a bad day for use a 4in strip leech and 8lb maxima right before I left, i remember I had a few BIG (size 2) kiwi muddles, so I put one on and walked around to the water falls. picked up 3 fish. hey Js.. Sorry I missed you both days. One of these days!! Leonard about an hour after I got from RR, I made a quick run to Taneycomo, catching 3 on the Kiwi.

  6. I guess the big question is What part of Montana?? If I had the chance to go.. Id be looking at Slide Inn (Run and operated by Kelly Galloup) www.slideinn.com On the Madison river.
  7. mwfischer... This lures has been called many things.. Little Jake, bent brass, the Domino (most popular).. When fishing from a boat.. they work. fishing off a dock.. they work fishing in high water.. they work... Yes these work great (at least on Taneycomo).. really anytime of the year. They make them in a few different color.. the one I use the most of is the Silver or gold (the key is using a snap swivel with them).. I think they suggest a size 14.. but I like the smaller swivel. If you tye them striaght to the line "It WILL break off!!" Place to find them.. any department store that sells fishing tackle... At Phils.. almost any tackle shop around Lake Taneycomo.. Bass Pro, Cabelas... I would also recomend using atleast 4 to 6lbs line when throw these.. Last.. on the package.. it says use for spin or Fly fishing... the person that want to try to throw these on a fly rod..Let me know I would really like to watch!!
  8. sculpins are a MAJOR part of a big fishes diet... if they were this big... how big would the brown be?? EDIT: what if the sculpins looked like this??
  9. Hey Zander... TU has a BIG project coming up. Replacing the stairs at outlet 2. We could use all the help we can get. This will probably turn into a full weekend project. I have the Plans and I think they are AWESOME!!! Leonard
  10. Hey guys.. Did you see the 3 big flashes of light and followed by the big "BOOM"?? do either of you know what that was? Leonard Michael... I hated too seem rude last night.. but needed to get John to the water.. It was good seeing you.. AWESOME new hair style. (what shampoo do you use..Likes the shine!)
  11. Jerod.. I can think of 3 things... 1st. They are using really small indicators and needs the light to see them. 2nd. Forgot to shut it off.. 3rd. trying to sight fish for them by see the shadows. Not know that if it is on to long the fish swim outs.
  12. I got to the dam about 8pm.. WHAT A CROWD.. I thought fall was here again..LOL... I met up with John at the pavillion and we headed to KOA. We started with a leech and a few good strikes but no hook ups. Next we put on a olive pine squirrel (beaded).. and that was the fly that stayed on the rest of the night.. All we had to do was toss it out and drift it down straight. John had a AWESOME night!! Here is a picture from last night...LOL (you guys are going to love this).. On a Olive pine squirrel..
  13. Ok... Here is my reply!!! First off.... what got me was a new guy to the sport (just learning ) caught a very nice fish (an 18in brown).. Then for someone to come and say that an 18 inch brown isn't big enough to go on a scale.. Well most of us fly guys have caught an 18in'er although some probably has not.... Its not that I don't believe Trav and the fish he is catching on the lower lake. I know they are there!! Next the reason I didn't reply is I was working that night and when I got home there was already 60+ post and most of them became either bashing me or Trav. So it was pointless. No I never met for a dog pile to happen but it did... I be the first to apologize to Trav... (But in my opinion it just wasn’t right to do that!) Now John19... you really what to know where I' have fished... Hickory Creek (Neosho Mo), Shoal Creek (Neosho/Joplin Mo), Table Rock (from Indian Point to Kimberling City to Cricket Creek to Long creek) Bull Shoals (Swan Creek, Beaver Creek and below the dam and round K dock and down MM hwy) Carpenter Dam (Hot Spring Ark, and 2 of the other lakes there), Neosho River (twin rivers area in Ok), White River (Ark)..... I can keep going if you want me to!! As far as the flies I tie.. You can say what you want to.. just remember you don't have to use them. Now, where have I fished on Lake Taneycomo ... well of course the Dam, Cooper/Lilley's area, Down below CofO, down town Branson, down below TT hwy, Rockaway Beach, and even above the dam at powersite.. If you really want to know Ive been fishing Taneycomo since I could hold a rod ( close to 30 years).. No Im not the "BEST" fisherman on Taneycomo probably will never be... Now for the guys who did over 2000 hour on Taneycomo. how about this.. with a 5 hour ave... but does it really matter? 92 days 262 ..nights (this was up by the dam) 58 days below fall creek yes I live closer then most... so I get down there more often..
  14. I got to the dam around 8:30 to meet up with Steve and Nathan (I think thats right). We sat and talked for a few and then geared.. We headed striaght to the top the throw streamers in high water. we both hooked into a couple of fish.. we made our way down to the pathway below 1..then him and Nathan was ready to head out. I stuck around for about another hour and got into some very nice fish (between 15-18in range) throwing a natural pine squirrel (unweighted).... then I switched over to a unweighted white wooly.. and it broke loose again basically standing above chute 1 (chin deep) casting about 15-20 feet out.. and dead drifting until it striaghten out down stream.. Most of the time it never got all the way down..before the take... trust me when I say.. YOU COULD FEEL THE TAKES!!
  15. Hey Trav.. Not all big fish are down stream... TRUST ME... Now we that fly fish (or spin fish) up by the dam like to hear the stories of catching nice fish.... But trust me... your more then likely to catch a 15+ lbs brown in the fall up by the then all year jigging brush piles...
  16. hey bittle.. you need to check out Cabelas.. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/template...rentId=cat20431
  17. On a trip of mine this past year, The guy out with me said this... " 0 + 1 is a good day!" hey bud.. a 18in brown sounds like that " 1 " to make it a good night.. Leonard
  18. Standing at 6'4" and weighing in at 265lb... Former WWE wrestler... Fake or not... this man has pick up some really big guys. He is a massive power house but is he able to withstand the pain from a "real" submission hold... Can he deal with the receiving end of a "ground and pound". Does he have a chance in MMA? http://sports.yahoo.com/mma/news;_ylt=AgQ8...o&type=lgns Knocking out Min Soo Kim in 69 seconds... what would or could he do with guys like Sylvia, Liddell, Hughs and Couture?
  19. Oh... come on... 20-25 degrees aint that cold...LOL Hey Jerod.. I may be out one of those nights.. I'll bring some special coffee!! Leonard
  20. Ollie.. That sounds like a very SWEET outting. As for as believing you... well hummm... Ok. After living over there for 4 years, Ive seen those fish in Big Springs. I was living there when the guy caught the big golden rainbow. Ive seen some big trout in there.. 18-20in'ers.. I saw a fish one day (just its shadow) I swore it was a trout.. pushing 25" .. Ive been wanting to get over therre and fish again.. I think Hickory is a AWESOME little creek. Hope to see you soon.. Keep those reports coming!! Leonard
  21. Another high water report.. I took out a couple of gentlemen (James and Wes). we got an early start about 7:30pm. water at 2 units. we started with the glow in the dark indicators Midge/sowbug and midge/eggs. So we headed to outlet 2. fishing started a little slow. But did pick. We hooked into some really nice fish but nothing big (Ave. 14-17in) Well we decided to end the night with a bit of streamer fishing. So we all went to the pavillion and did a quick warm-up. we put on the PMS. and headed to one. as we got there and started we made a few casts and changed spots right away. Went to the upper side of 1. On the 2nd cast James Landed a beautiful 20in Brown. This would be the fish that ended the night.. Very cold, A little windy, full moon, high water... with everything against us... we still caught fish... Leonard
  22. LA... I agree with Jerod... you dont no Sage or Winston to start with.. but you dont wont no $30 combo set from walmart. Check out your local fly shops. Sometimes they put their rod (the ones they have used on guide trips) up for sale to replace or upgrade. Also your on the right track with a nice white river rod and a Hobbs creek reel (total cost $150).. Dont forget Cabelas.. they carry some nice combos too Also check out River run outfitters. ( www.riverrunoutfitters.com )... they can order a Redington crosswater combo for you (price about $95- 125). Wader.. check out Bass pro.. very nice pair of beathables for $99-150.. Cabelas even carries some nice waders.. even wal-marts has nice cheap waders.. Like Jerod said try to stay away from the neoprenes.. As for as flies... this is where the money is going to go.. Depending on the srea you live in.. where you decide your going to do the most fishing.. trips to Taneycomo, Roaring River (other trout parks). Shoot... find some local fly fishing clubs in your area.. Someone in the club may have an extra rod they would be will togive to someone just starting out... Leonard
  23. I got to the dam about 9pm.. The was already 1 guy there, and as I was getting ready 1 more showed up.. It seem to me a busy night (6 people) for 2 units and this time of year.. It was great to see more and more people out at night.. well I started at outlet 2 with a midge/egg rig under a glow in the dark indicator.. Start off really good.. the bite was a little slow. Catching maybe 7-10 fish.. when I was join by some friend and we fished there for a little while longer.. We decided to head up top and throw some streamers.. while I tried a few different patterns.. and finally tied on the PMS.... 3rd cast was a 18in brown... catch a few more.. I headed off my rod for a friend to cast a few time... Warning him when they hit it.. He well Know it!! after a minute of coaching... he made a good cast.. and within seconds he sets the hook... we stood there and caught about 7 more (or so)... Ended the night on a BIG, COLORFUL BOW... about 19inch AWESOME night... not many fish.. cold.. But hey.. Anytime spent on the water is a good night... Leonard Phillip and Josh.. I enjoyed fishing with you guys last night..
  24. heys guy... When it comes to crappie in Taneycomo you really have to know where to look.. Timing is everything for those crappie... Time of year.... how much water has been running... most important...LOCATION!! in the right time of year.. its possible to catch 50-75.. even over a 100 crappie in 1 outting... I have caught the crappie.. alot of them.. they are anywhere from 7in up to 18inches (that has been my biggest)... Just have to know where to look.. Heres a couple of tips.. More then likely you wont find them in the daylight (unless your fishing a feeder creek in the spring) they hold in water less then 10 feet deep.. try small white or grey jigs... Leonard
  25. If you can bare the cold windy nights... Taneycomo is fishing at its best right now for this time off year... Last night I got to the about 8:30pm and stayed till almost midnight. When I got there the water look like it was going at 3 units.. So I started with the Midge/egg combo.. catching 9... took off the egg as the water really started to drop out and put on a gray sowbug....catching 12 more... well the water had really dropped out by now and the wind picked up alittle more.. (just before 10pm)... I went up top to outlet 1 change rigs and started throw the PMS... with a few good hard strikes and no takes, I went to a smaller leech (something I been working on)..Light gray... and then it broke loose.... Fishing on a dead drift sinking it to the bottom, stripping it fast, stripping slow... no matter what kind of retrieve it was.. they hit it... I even landing one as I was release a fish.. dropped the fly into the water and bam.. had another without even having to cast... I did this from the lower part of outlet 1 all the way down the flats... I lost count of the number.. well over 50.... What a Night!!! Leonard
