  1. Hey tippet Wish I could jion you guys this weekend... but momma is not going to let me.. But heres a few tips for you.. If the moon is full and bright.. use black, olive or purple woolies.. 2in long max... maybe even some sculpins.. If the moon is full (but over cast or cloudy)and a slight breeze.. go with the lighter colors.. white or gray.. the best 2 spots for night fishing is between the cable to about half way down to chute 2.. careful.. there are some really big rock in the area.. next hot spot for nights is between the rebar and the big hole... but I have been having fair luck just below chute2 in the middle.. wacth out.. there is a slight drop in that area.. striaght down from where the chute flows in the water Hope this helps.. if you need more info call me... 417-779-8061.. Good luck to you and your buddies!!! Leonard
  2. Some (if not most) of you all knew I was going to have my gall bladder removed yesterday... UPDATE: It was a seccess... Im doing fine alittle sore.. and it hurts when I cough.. and when those dang cats jump on me.. the next to do so will be shaved and made into fly dubbing..LOL The docter said the reason I was getting so sick all the time was I had a blockage because of one.. but it was over 10mm (gall stone).. which means it was so big it couldnt pass though anything.. and it keep the smaller ones from escaping into other organs.. after they got them all out.. I had a total of 14.. 4of them was over 5mm... If any of you have bad heartburn or certain foods keep you up all night with a sick, gasy pressure, or blotted feeling.. get your self check out... they told me I was lucky to get there when I did.. a few more days or weeks it could have ruptured... That would have been deadly!! Now for the fishing part (WOO HOO)... As soon as I got home last night I sat down and tyed a few flies... LOL... had to on my new vise, Momma took my tools away and told me to go lay down. Then when I asked her what we were doing this weekend.. she said "NO Fishing for 2 week".. well thats not gonna happen.. I'll be fishing by the first of next week... If not by sunday!!! Leonard

  9. Today was a nice day to be on the water... the fish has there on and offs.. but just being outside was great.. I caught 5 fish on the roo bug in less then 20 minutes fishing it about 4 foot deep and a small bb weight about a foot above it.. then they shut off... Next I tied on a soft hackle (black) and tore them up.. I had a good 30 fish day.. I was fishing between the 2 boat ramps.. My dad joined in on the fun today also.. he had a good 20 fish day also.. we were down ther from about 11am-3pm
  10. Greg.. A buddy of mine has the roo hair (a skin)... as far as that.. I never seen anyone else with it... As far as I know no fly shops carries it...
  11. This sculpin is very simple to tye... It is one good fly for sight fishing and using at night... Hook: Targus streamer 6-12 thread: olive 6/0 or bigger lead eyes (mini) Dubbing: Flashabou chartreuse tail: cross cut rabbit strips Prism eyes ( your choice) super glue Category: sculpin Difficulty:1 species: both warm and both water fish (bass, trout, crappie, bluegills) Insert the hook though the rabbit strip.. and put the hook in the vise.. Tye in the eyes, using a figure 8.. Add you dubbing and roll it thread... now work your way up the hook... make 1 wrap both ways around the eye with the dubbing and tye off (but dont cut your thread!!) Remove the hook (fly from the vise) and turn it upside down and super gule the rabbit down.. may need a toothpick to keep the glue off your fingers.. Last step is to tye off the rabbit strip and whip finish.. and the should be some super glue still on the fly... hang it upside down for about 15 minute... the glue will soak down the the thread and glue the head. May need to trim the tail to lenght of hook... where the fur of the rabbit ends..
  12. The roo bug is a scuds type fly. But what make it stand it is able the change colors (slightly) in water and the legs have more of a lifelike movement.. Roo stands for kangaroo.. the fur from a roo is a tannish/brown wool type fur. this fur is very soft and delicate therefore makes it alittle harder to work with. kangaroo has a mixture of color.. you can 5-10 different types of color mixures from them.. Hook: any scud hook 14-22's thread:8/0 Brown roo fur category: scuds Difficulty:2 (because of the delicate fur) species: Trout Place the hook in the vise and start the thread Add the roo fur by "rolling" it on the thread (may need to wet your fingers a little to get it to roll). Once on the thread start to wrap it toward the eye of the hook. Being very careful not to break apart the line of fur. Make a couple whip finishs and clip the thread Instead of a dubbing brush you will want to use a piece of velco, the fur is so soft a dubbing brush will pull it right off the thread. Clipping the legs.. I like to try to keep the legs just enough to cover the hook.. so when clipping.. clip along the bottom of the hook and across to the eye. (setting your scirrors at the barb and finishing with them touching the eye. You may need to put the bug back into the vise to do a little back and side trimming to smooth them out.. and then add your head cement NOTE: Scud backs may be add if you want to...
  13. The Ostrich egg is a very simply yet very efficive fly.. Hook:tmc 2488 (scud hook) 18-24's Thread: 8/0 gray Ostrich: white (2 pieces of herl) Catergory: eggs Difficulty: 1 specices: trout Place the hook in vise and start the thread.. next tye in the herl I like to twist the herl together and stroke the barbs out. Start to wrap the herl toward the eye of the hook, keep the wraps close together. Once at the eye of the hook, look over the fly.. If you feel you need to go back and add a few wraps to fill it out more do so Next whip finish the thread.. and add a drop of head cement
  14. as far as bluegills and small bass (well 2+lbs) the pier in Rockaway Beach.. but if you have a boat.. Thats where I had the best luck.... Hey gonefishin... call me and I'll tell you few good spot..417-779-8061
  15. jOrOb... If and when the next time we meet (hopefully soon)... I'll try to show you what a shuffler does... when you see them they will have a 10 foot long "mud" streck in front of them and catching fish... then wacth them alittle longer... then ask them how the fishing is...LOL.. they will say it has been one of the best days on the water.. they are catching fish right and left..... The greatest thing I ever seen from a shuffler was... he was standing in the chute 1 (I mean standing in it!!) shuffling his feet... and wasnt catching a thing.. I watch this guy for maybe 30 minutes.. and didnt catch a one... he walked up into the chute and moved around some big rocks about 10 of them.. all the way back down he shuffled his feet.. then caught 1 fish maybe 10-12inch... and hes reply was these darn fish arent hungry today.... as he got out of the water leaving I casted right at the end of the current of the chute (with a white #20 egg) and hit a fish 18in... he walked back down and fish another 20-30 and still didnt catch a fish. I caught maybe 30 fish that day to his 1
  16. Hey Chris.. Welcome to Missouri... Your in Blue eye.. well dang lets get together sometime.. Im in blue eye/ridgedale.. right between the 86 bridge and the Twin island market
  17. I went fishing this afternoon... and did OK... But while I was there.. they blow a horn.. but the water never came up.. it flowed just a little faster.. but didnt raise more then maybe an inch in 45 minute... What happened??
  18. Other then a trout (rainbow or brown)... What has been some of the wierdest things (fish) you all have caught out of Taneycomo... Explain!! I remember these.. a walleye this pass summer (24 inches on a fly rod) in the run between the rebar and the big hole... a smallmouth a few years back (22 inches on a Matzou Minnow) Downtown branson by the old gravel bar in the campground. They had 4 generators going (the island was completely covered).. a sucker on a fly rod useing a jig 2 suckers at the same time.. but useing only 1 (single point) hook... I was fishing one the docks by the Lake Queen with night crawlers.. and as I was setting the hook.. one sucker got wrap around the fishing line.. and I hooked the other in the mouth.. Anybody else do any thing weird??
  19. jdavis.. I like to carry a small pair of wire cutter.. just incase one does swallow the whole thing..Their are fairly small, super sharp and cost about $15 (at Lowes)..I reach in and cut the hook complete at the bend or where I see the hook showing.. one quick snip and the fish is gone.. Yes you lose a fly but you can always retie... Leonard
  20. It looks to me like some was trying to clean it.. and try to cut the gill plates out and the fish flopped out of there hands.. and swam away.. and survived... if you know what I mean...
  21. Hello Everyone.. My name is Leonard Keeney.. ( last name is said .. key-knee) I was born and raised right here in Branson Missouri (1973). My wife just graduated from Crowder College (in Neosho) from the Nursing program. She is now a Graduate Nurse (GN).. After the first of year she will be taking the State test (the N-CLEX) thats when she will become a RN. The rest of the family is 2 great little boys (I mean MONSTERS), but they are still loveable. The 2 year (Daniel) is as mean as the devil, but he loves to go fishing. The 4 year (Bryan) is in head start and guess what... he loves fishing to. (wonder where they get it from??) Now for me... I started fishing Taneycomo with my Grandmother when I was 5.. She was the one to how to bait fish (God rest her soul)... she pasted away when I was 20. When I was 10 I was looking though my dads garage and found a 8 1/2' bamboo rod with and automatic reel on it... this was the first time I had ever seen a fly rod... and I ask my dad what it was he said it was his fathers fly rod. Well that summer he took my to Table Rock and showed me how to use it... that Christmas.. guess what Santa brought me... A New Fly rod.... WOW... So I started fishing the following summer for bluegill on Table Rock with my dad... In the late 80's we started fly fishing behide S of O (now C of O)... I fished here for many years.. I got married (in 93) and Moved to Hot Springs Ark. The were same little creeks around that I fished.. and then I found Lake Hamilton and Cartherine and fly fished them for about a year and then me and the wife seperated and I moved home. Ather the move back is when I discovered River Run Outfitters. Fly fishing was at the top of my list.. As I sat and talk to them is when I heard about below Table Rock dam (you guessed it.. C&R). I started going down there with a spinning rod (didnt know what ever happened to my old fly rod) and a rapala. I fished like that for maybe a year.. Then got another fly rod and after spend a few 100 dollars on flies (yes Id loose alot).. I began tying my own. As anyone when they first start out.. I sucked at it.. But I really wanted to learn.. Maybe 4 months after I started tying I meet a guy down there catching the crap out of them and I walked and started to talk to him... What a Great guy.. he gave me flies and they really worked.. as I keep going down there I always ran in to him... As we kept talking I guess its safe to say we became good friends and he invited me over to his place to sit down and tye flies with him.. He showed me everything from sculpins to scuds to jigs... you guessed Brad Wright, your right he showed me how to tye flies. Everything else I have learned about tying is based on what he showed me. One last thing about me... I really enjoy night fishing on Taneycomo in the fall. I think this next year Im going to try spring and summer.. But this is me... and Im almost always on the lake.
  22. Hey phil... Does this mean Brad is in town??? Great look sculpin....
  23. Can someone post directions to it for me... here's a few questions about it.. How long is it?? how far across is it?? Is it true that all trout in there are wild??? how deep would you say the deepest hole is??? What I do know.... is you have to be very sneeky to get close to it.. use tiny flies.. and wading is hard because it make alot of noise and will scare the fish... Know then.. Im I right on this??

    Hello

I liked fishing in Hickory creek... Ive caught everything from crappie to bluegills.. and trout to suckers.. The whole time I lived in Neosho I may have seen less then 10 people fly fishing it.. My opinion is... that if you did make a place for it... you'll have more flyfisherman going there.. maybe hooking more fish and getting them more skittish of fisherman... Also to add... There will be more people there watching for the law-breakers ( that not many knows who we are speaking of).. But the down side of post for Hickory creek... there are alot more creeks around Neosho.. even some good smallie fishing around Joplin (just cant think of the name of it...South on Main street that all I remember).. Its a really great tube floating creek!!!
  25. Yes... there are some in there... I have caught one myself, But here's the thing... back in Oct... but here lately havent heard of any body catching them..
