  1. The fact is while a person is running by GPS on plane you can not hear another boat or boats doing the same thing heading towards you. I have witness boats running in the fog when they should be at the very least idling along if moving at all. This running by GPS is also just as foolish as running at night without lights on. We all have seen un-safe boating practices over the years on these lakes as well on the highways and people do die from these moments of stupidity so far a lot us have not yet...
  2. The lake is in process of turning this year, the muddy water caused the water temperature to rise quickly and it turned over. It is now starting to clear up around Cape Fair.
  3. That what I thought someone said......I'd be real happy with half that amount......
  4. I will agree with your statement about the majority of pleasure boaters. There are a few fishermen who also needs the training course that is required for a group of people born after January 1, 1984, must successfully complete a boating safety education course to legally operate any vessel on the lakes of Missouri, including personal watercraft. It would not hurt any of us to take that training. I have had a boat and operated one since 1972 but that does not mean I know all of the safety rules of do's and don'ts of boat operation. I say everyone should be required to go through the safety course and pass the course given by the Highway patrol. There is a course online which covers the same topics. Have you ever been running meeting a boat and wonder which way to turn, right or left to avoid the on-coming water craft, should steer to the right if possible. Real respect and common courtesy to your fellow boaters would go a long ways to curing boating problems on our lakes, fishermen and pleasure boaters alike.
  5. All of the above...........
  6. Give Ulrich Marine Center a call 417-272-1841. They are in Branson West on 16955 State HWY 13.
  7. Here are the lighting requirements for boats at night in Missouri: Navigation Lights The required navigation lights differ depending on the type and size of your vessel. You must display the required navigation lights between sunset and sunrise and during periods of restricted visibility. Motorboats When Underway If less than 40 feet long, these vessels must exhibit the lights as shown in illustration 1. Remember, motorboats include sailboats operating under power. The required lights are: Red and green sidelights visible from a distance of at least one mile away on a dark, clear night. An all-round white light or both a masthead light and a sternlight. These lights must be visible from a distance of at least two miles away on a dark, clear night. The all-round white light (or the masthead light and sternlight) must be visible from all directions in a 360° circle. The masthead light and sternlight may be combined as an all-round white light on vessels less than 39.4 feet long. Unpowered Vessels When Underway An alternative to the sidelights and sternlight is a combination red, green, and white light, which must be exhibited near the top of the mast. Unpowered vessels are sailboats or vessels that are paddled, poled, or rowed. If less than 65.6 feet long, these vessels must exhibit the lights as shown in Figure 2. The required lights are: Red and green sidelights visible from at least two miles away (or if less than 40 feet long, at least one mile). A sternlight visible from at least two miles away. An alternative to the sidelights and sternlight is a combination red, green, and white light, which must be exhibited near the top of the mast. If less than 23.0 feet long, these vessels should: If practical, exhibit the same lights as required for unpowered vessels less than 65.6 feet in length. If not practical, have on hand at least one lantern or flashlight shining a white light as shown in Figure 3. Vessel operators should never leave shore without a flashlight. Even if you plan to return before dark, unforeseen developments might delay your return past nightfall. All Vessels When Not Underway All vessels are required to use a white light visible from all directions whenever they are anchored or moored away from dock between sunset and sunrise. 8. Most tournaments have set their limit at 5 fish so you don't have to be concerned with violating state limit of 6 at anytime during the tournament.
  9. A great report, keep up the good work.
  10. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll give that a try, it sure a funny feeling to watch one sink.
  11. I lost a rod & reel last Wednesday at point 5. I was casting a 1/2" oz jig with a large plastic craw. I believe the rod tip snaped about 6 to 8 inches down from the tip of the rod as I was making a great cast. When it broke the rod left my hand due to a line hangup on the rod. The setup was a Bass pro rod and reel not a great loss but it was a good casting combo. Tried dragging a spoon around with no sucess. It may show up when the water level gets down.
  12. You might give the National Boat Owners Association a try. E-mail jberndt@nboat.com or 1-800-248-3512 ext 3012. I have just switched to their policy. They beat my present and past insurance company by almost $300 a year on a 2010 Z8 Nitro with a 225 Merc. My old company just was not competive. Progressive quoted $301 a year. So bottom line they look at your years of experence operating a boat some look at credit rating. It kind of like a person told me a few years ago about insurance companys. They are in the loss business yours not theirs.
  13. What was the winning weight guess?? My guess was 8.65.
  14. I had Gibbs in Republic to re-do a couple of seats for a Ranger I had at the time and they done an outstanding job on both seats and was very reasonable in the $$$ department. If I ever have more seats to have re-covered they get my work. They also do restorations of old car seats to.
  15. has not set their status

  16. I am receiving an HDS-8 and a LSS-1 in a few days and have viewed your pictures of your installation and I have a question. Do you have the LSS-1 tranducer and the skimmer 2 D tranducer set at the same level with each other? My CMC jack plate setback is 5 inches, will I need to trim my motor up to prevent it from blocking the signals from the transducers? I know that I will have other questions later concerning setup and adjustments for operations. Where would be a good starting point on setup? Thanks
  17. Great pictures, I have been thinking of changing to a HDS unit. Which lowrance model are you using??
  18. I believe it was the DNR [Department of Natural Resources] who with held the test results. Correct me if I am wrong....
  19. Well I have been lurking here for a few days/weeks and I have some questions about the method drop shot fishing. I used to fish Tablerock alot about 15 years or more ago and then the Texas rig worm fishing was the thing. But due to work and a few other things fishing became a once or twice occurance a year. The Ranger boat sat in the drive way more than it should...Ok now that I am getting close to retiring I am getting time on my side to indulge again. I have attempted to use the drop shot method and had a problem of of course not getting bit but my line wanted to twist alot. I tied the #1 hook about 12-18 inches up the line then ran the line back through the eye to get the hook to set at approx 90 degrees to the line. Tied a 1/4 oz weight which had a swival eye on it. Tried several different colors of a 4 inch worm hooked through one end. What do I need to change if anything to use this method of fishing. Back in the Bass Club fishing days we was always in the know on any new methods that came along. Thanks for any help provided Harold Kistner
