Never have tried that. Too lazy to mess with bait. Lol! Those Buffalo jump sometimes when they get snagged.

You might also try jigs bounced along the bottom as you drift. I use 1/4 or 1/8 ounce with plastics or bucktail in chartrueuse or white. I catch Walleye, Hybrids, Whites, crappie, Buffalo, and occasional Spoonbill (which are released if I get them in) when they get foul hooked because they are bunched up in there. Jigs get hung up a lot because of the rocks but they catch fish. A lot f the regulars there use a slip bobber with 2 lighter jigs tied on and fish from the bank and mainly target Crappie. however, they do hook into the other species as well. Pretty crowded, especially on weekends, but a fun place. Hope you do well.

Nice fish!

Below the dam is one of my favorite places to fish in March and April, It is such a diverse fishery...never know what you're going to latch on too. Lots of people when fishin' is hot, but plenty of fish too. Thanks oneshot, I'll give a report if I have any luck.

how and what were you fishing for? Bait or Lures? Did you see any others catching fish and if so what if you don"t mind my asking. I like using jerk baits and jigs there for walleyes, hybrids, and whites, smaller jigs for the crappie.

What an amazing day...one to remember for sure!

It's an enjoyable way to catch bass when they are not too deep, better in Spring or Fall than in the heat of summer. The size bass I've been catching has been pretty good on the large streamer flies. It's cutting into my finesse worm fishing though. I hope you get into them tomorrow. Please give us a report. Tight lines!

I think the whole lake's been pretty good but yeah should be

Put in at Crabtree around noon. Had a nice wind blowing and found water temps from 48-55 degrees. Bass were shallow on windy banks and we caught them on square bill crankbaits, zoom craws, and streamer flies. Fun day! No walleyes, stayed with the bass all day. Didn't try points at all, just windy banks.

Awsome fish!!!

Gotta hand it to you guys...if you can catch fish after a cold front like this one, you could catch fish anytime.

I hear you, sinking lines can be a chore. Thank goodness I have good gear, it helps. I try to keep false casting to a minimum with a full sinking line and never try to lift too much line off the water at once for the next cast. Otherwise, it'll ware you out in a hurry. Another plus for Puglisi flies is that they cast with ease.

You nailed it...clear water. This fly kills in clear water. Perfect profile and translucency for wary fish. It doesn't have a noisy blade or enticing wobble, but in clear water it does the job. Don't get me wrong, I like the other flies mentioned here too. In fact, last night I tied several of the wiggle minnows. I'm researching too, because for the fly to work right it has to be tied right. I'm going to test it tomorrow just to see how the ones I've tied so far act in the water before I make a bunch that don't do the wobble. As a kid In Northern California I fished Flatfish and Lazy Ike's for Bass and Trout. Deadly! This has been an inspiring thread.

I googled the Wiggle Minnow too and now I will use some of the foam cylinders I have stashed away. . Looks like a great pattern.

A lot of Walleyes have been caught on Clouser Minnows because they are a lot like jigs, and lots of Walleyes are caught on jigs. The picture I enclosed shows some flies I catch a lot of Bass on in Stockton, and I plan on trying these for walleyes as well when conditions are right with a sinking or sink tip line in the next couple months. The hook size is 2/0 and they are weighted so the fly fishes hook point facing up. I have caught Hybrids below Truman Dam from a boat on these as well. They are called Puglisi Flies and they catch pretty much everything. You might give them a try. Please post if you catch some Walleyes on flies. Good luck!

Nice flies! They should be good for anything down there. Hope you get a chance to tangle with snook or tarpon. I've been using permit flies for carp here in Missouri. Good luck! -
Experiences with Carp on Ozark lakes

Hit the water for a couple hours this morning. Actually had a snapping turtle eat my fly. Thought it was a Carp because the silt cloud distorted my view. -

I've caught some Buffalo below Truman Dam while fishing with spinning gear for Hybrids and Walleyes. If you accidently foul hook one they jump like crazy, same with the big gars in there. Talk about a fight! -

Experiences with Carp on Ozark lakes

Here's a few Carp flies. I like to imitate crayfish and aquatic nymphs such as mayflies and dragonflies. Also, not shown are worms that can be imitated by the San Juan Worm. I've caught Carp on Clouser Minnows too. -

(Continued) fly as it falls. If so, the fish may move over to it and inhale it. If the fish doesn't see the fly I will barely move it as he moves ahead while feeding along the bottom on the same path towards the fly. Too much movement to the fly can put the fish off and he may leave the area. It's a challenge, but lots of fun when you hook up. The best way to hook these fish is with a slow, steady strip set, which is how it's done on Bonefish. -

I know there are guys who catch Carp on fly in muddy lakes (and I've done it by accident), but I love casting to them in clear water and watching them eat it. I cast ahead of feeding fish and let he fly settle to the bottom. Try not to plop the fly down because they will spook. Sometimes the fish will see the fl -

I have put a carp or two in the smoker before and they weren't bad at all. As for gar, done that with a fly rod too on Beaver Creek and it was a hoot. But carp fishing with a fly rod is the closest thing to flats fishing for bonefish. Carp "tail" just like bonefish when they feed creating puffs of mud as they go. I have a healthy respect (wasn't always that way) for carp and handle them with care when I release them. Furthermore, the average size you catch exceeds that of most freshwater species. Do they jump, no, but they pull hard and make long runs at times. Plus, they are a challenge and there are so many that you get lots of chances at feeding fish. Anyway, that's my take on it, for what it's worth.
