  1. Going out for a morning trip tomorrow, will probably fish the old catch & release section if they aren't generating.
  2. Fished Taney for the 1st time today, and it was all that i expected plus more. Got on the water about 9 and caught a nice rainbow right off the bat. They fishing was consistent from then til around 1, and then it got much slower. I had a little luck on a mclellans hunchback scud in tan, but had the most fish, including a 18" brown on a fellow OA sowbug, or "sowpig" as he calls it, in olive. I want to thank everyone for posting, especially all the reports on Taney. Thanks to yall i had the first of many experiences fishing this great tailwater. By the way, someone forgot to mention that a 10" stocker in Taney fights like a 18" in Beaver!
  3. thanks for the help! Do you sell MO fishing licenses in your shop? i need a day pass. i will be going for sure sat morn if anyone wants to join me
  4. i will be there tomorrow morn. what is a good time to hit the water? ill be driving from fayetteville so i wont get there too early though
  5. i was planning on going saturday or sunday, but it will be my first time and i dont know the area at all. how would i get to this section of the river? and did you wade or from the bank. thanks
  6. i will be up there for most of friday, ill keep an eye out
  7. KOA, Is that the campground? I heard from a fly shop here in fay that the campground was a pretty good spot. What about if/when they start generating, is there need to change locations or just start throwing streamers?
  8. Hey guys, after a long week of finals ive decided to treat myself to a little taney fishing. i was wondering if yall could help me out with a good place to wade from. ive been reading articles on here for a while and looked at the maps and understand where rebar, outlet 1,2, ect.. are. I am some whate new to fly fishing and just don't want to crowd anyone, or be crowded. Ill be coming up either thursday or friday so atleast i won't be there with the weekend crowd. Any help is greatly appreciated.
  9. ha thats one of the amazing features jeep decides everyone needs! Once finals get over this week i will be making it up there a lot more. let me know next time your heading up
  10. Had a short, but cold, outing this morning below the dam. I got there around 730 (my car said it was 18 degrees!) and they were generating. Steve hooked me up with a shad type replica and i fished the eddy off the rock point by the dam and had a few hits. When they stopped generating i used a white wooly and pulled in a healthy rainbow off that same point. Then i went down to the boat ramp closest to the dam and fished the "famous" sow pig and brought in 3 bows in 40 mins. It was a short day due to fratenity obligations this afternoon but the scenery was a sight. Every tree was completely frozen over and they looked like huge icicles. Even though it was cold it was well worth every second being out there.
  11. I couldnt find a link on their website, but i found a pair of wool foldover mittens that are insulated with 40gram thinsulate fleece at target. they are extremely warm and comfortable and give you the option to be fingerless. to top it off, they were only $10, you cant beat that.
  12. 7am: 23°F 9am: 30°F 11am: 37°F Yep, its going to be a cold one. Time to bust out the wool and fleece
  13. im wondering the same, steve any input? Also, there was a road, maybe ..? springs road that i have been on, it has less curves then the main road to the dam, patrick can you tell me what that was again? Im pretty sure ill be heading out in the morning probably leave fay around 6. id be glad to let any one know how the conditions are. PM me and ill give you my #
  14. Hey guys, i am going to be heading out saturday morning but ive got to be back to fayetteville by noon. If your coming out patrick let me know what time and if you are bringing the boat or wading, ill keep an eye out. Steve, or anyone for this matter, i have never fished an egg pattern. Do you use an indicator and just keep it close to the bottom as you would a nymph? thanks and hopefully ill see someone out there
  15. How much will this front affect the fishing, or is there even anything specific to what fish do with cold fronts? i have finally found some time to make it below beaver on saturday, but with finals coming up, i dont want to go up possibly knowing the fishing could be terrible. I know it is suppose to warm up by sat (40s range). just curious how much the weather will play a part with the fishing, especially since the water temp probably won't vary too much. thanks
  16. ok perfect. thanks bobber!
  17. when you say real close, where do you mean. i don't have a boat but i know the white decently well. how far up will they go?
  18. my parents live just before the 45 bridge (i could hit it with a rock from the back yard). are there fish up this high? i have only fished back there during the white bass run in the spring.
  19. thanks guys, i plan on going out probably thanksgiving week if anyone is going to be around and wants to go out, let me know
  20. those were pretty sweet. i have a bunch of carp in the river behind my house, any reccomendation on flies to use? ive read a few articles on conventional tackle just nothing for fly fishing. thanks
  21. i have been wanting to go night fishing up on beaver for a while now and think i have pretty much all the tricks figured out except for what size leader and tippet to use. Do you/can you use a different size (stronger) since it is at night and you are somewhat targeting larger fish? i don't want to scare them off, but at the same time if i hook up with a big one i want to atleast give myself (and the fish) a chance, not sure how possible that is on a 8x tippet. I know night fishing isnt as big on beaver as the other tailwaters, but im sure some of yall go out once and a while! thanks guys
  22. hey guys, by the time we got the coolers open and the camp all set up we only had about 45 mins of light. i brought in a few small smallmouth using a crayfish pattern on the fly rod and a few other guys caught a few panfish and smallies. it wasn't the best fishing, but we did catch some and just being out there was worth it all
  23. pretty fish, but what is that fat ugly fly in its mouth? is it the same sow pig or something new? if so, i want in!
  24. thanks guys. we are heading out the door right now, hopefully i can get my line wet
  25. hey retro, i learned how to fly fish at beaver this summer. i didnt have quite as much trouble as you, but just went on a few sundays when there were lots of nice and friendly fishers that gave me a few hints and helped a lot with my casting. dont be afraid to ask someone fishing by you if it looks like they know what they are doing. it also wouldnt hurt to try casting a few times in the back yard. its not near as fun but you can get a better feel for whats going on before you are actually on the water trying to hook up with a fish.
