Sac: I moved there in 1963 from Maryvillee MO and moved back to Springfield when I rerired in 1985. I was borned and raised in Springfield so that's were I wanted to be when I leave this world, which is'nt long because I'm 90 and onehalf. I saw the lake built and have been allover the bottoms helping farmers with conservation work. Have the old 1976 geological maps before the lake was built. They show every thing that was there before the lake filled up. In one way it's like table rock in that when we stood on the dam after it was constructed someone ask when it would be full an the officer incharge said in about a year. Well that was November and the next spring it was as full as it has ever been, as I remember about 898 .As you rember TR was not finished when the flood just about took it out. The middle three sections were not in yet constructed.

What is a person to think. I just replaced a Johnney Morris signature rod and reel I lost last year and on handle it said signedd by Johnney Morris made in China. Not only that I bought over $140 werth of plugs and a lowrance fishfinder. It al was about $700..I desided to check and every thing I purchaced was made in foreign countries. Even the lowrance and I thought they were made in OK. How are we to make jobs for our middle ckass with every think we buy made overseas. Remember when walmart said everthing they sold was made in the USA, no mote.

I feel abit said about things that are happing in my country and especialy in my town where I was borned and grew up. Especialy with bass pro where I worked , after I retired. Yousee I am 90 this year and I thing I have seen alot, so when I go to bass pro to enjoy what could be one of my last ones and it turns out to be the worst one they have had, it's sad. I was working at there first one and I'v been to almost all of them I've never met Johnney but frome what I'seen and read I think he is a good guy and has done a lot for our community, but things don't seem the say there or in my town. I guess I'm just getting old. Thanks for letting me spout off

Mr Agnew sure told it tike it was.Good article. IWould like to put in my 2cents. I was with the SCS dept.of agriculture from1957 to 1984, in Nodaway, Cedarand Dade counties. This was the period Al was talking about. After Stockton lake was constructered the Corps wanted to dam up the Marais des Cygnes river just over the hill west of Stockton. With the help of the soil and water districts it was voted down . Just another example why folks, especially farmer and landowners did not want all rivers dames up. If you would check the two web sites below they will explain in more detail what soil and water districts were doing and still are. http:/www.ok.gov/conservation/agency- division/.conservation_program_division/flood_control_program http:/geology.com/lakes-rivers-water/missouri.shtml

Thaks Champ from all the good things I have read about you a Donna you will be here for ever.None of my 6 wives were golfers but they were all great gals and I know they are all in heaven. Jim. Champ : I'm going to correct myself. This is what happens when you get old. My 5th wife was a fine golfer and she got me in twin oaks without paying the big membershjip fee. She stop golf at 85. My 6th wife and her family floated and fished the Merimac river. We were childhood sweethearts . After not seeing her for 70 yers we got married. I had her for 2 wears as a teen and 1yr. And 7 months as seniors.JIM

Joe: There was a period when there were a lot of people not in favor of daming up all are rivers and that seamed to be what the goverment wanted to do. I.was a soil conservationis with the Dept of Agraculture at that time and we had a program to put conservaton practices on the land to help control esosion and flooding Many practices were ponds and small lakes. These ponds and small lakes were owned by the landowners but they were to alow a cetain amount of fishing. Ok. Had hunders of thes structures. This was was reason why the govermenrt stopped daming up rivers About my fishing. I lost a wife at 42 and I had 3 children to raise so it was work and not much fishing. I hope to correct this before I go.As I said I have never caught a lunker bass but did chatch a 9lb. Cat on a crank bait under the power line on the north bank.If it hadn't been for man fishing buddy Lane I would have never goot it in the boat. It went back for someone else to catch I would like to say I did see the flood of 1957 going through the un finished dam on the rock There were many that thought it would wash out. Also as a Phil said on Ozark fishermen, Most of the structures were not removed and this is true for Stockton. I have heard that some the graves were not either. I have the old 1956 contour maps and you can find anything you want from cemetriess to springs. JIM

Joe: You are almost in Mo, where did you live in southeast. In the begining I fished in the Capefair area with a great guy from Lockwood and with us it was mostly crappie. Orvile alway had to find the hardwood trees to cathch crappie. I never did figure that out ,, a few bass but never anything over about a pound. Stockton was stocked with walleye and there was no limit on any thing for a long time so people took buckets of all kind of fish.. This wasn't good because it took some time before the fishing got better. I have a nitro boat and fish as much as I can and play senior golf. H a blessed Christmas and I hope to see you on the lake. Jim

A blessed Marry Christmas to all. What a great form Ozark Anglers. I'm just an old 90 year old who was bored here in Springfield and have seen so much, good and bad. But this form is the best.We have two of the most beautifuf lakes in the world. God gave us this so less take care of them. I was here and saw both lakes constructed. Table Rock almost flooded out while under constructon and as we stood on the Stockton dam after it was constructed someone ask when it would fill. Well the next spring it was full and has never been any fuller. Just an old man who lkes to talk about memories.

One of these days before l go, I'm 90 , I'm go to do this with my son. Thanks all and have a blessed CHristmas

Was thinking of up grading my old cheap fishfinder. Waswondering if any of you great fishermen have used an underwatercamera instead of a fishfinder. I'm just an old 90 year old fisherman that would like to catch a lunker berfore I go or have to give up this great sport.

I'M also loohing for a new fishfinder. Never owned an expensive one but now am thinhing about $500. W also ask if anyone would consider an underwater camera instead of a fishfinder. Thanks, old 90 year old fisherman am still trying to get a lunker. -
Looks Bad For Viney And Possibly A Few Others.

Do what the county count did at Stockton lake. They never let the Corp own thw lamd where the roads are so all ramps and roads leading to the lake are not to be closed. If they werre the local road de[partment opened them I have seen trees and other things blocking the road and I believe the Corp did it,but the loacls removed the obsticals. Chec with your county court and i bet all road to the lake belong to the county. I maneven got permision to build a ramp of of old 39 Hy. There are lot of things locals can do if they try. I worked with the us department of agriculture and even go ain air strip built with help of local contractors. Keep tryong. the county court did in -
