David Games " yellow midge". Copper bead, Lt. cahill thread around body and then wrap olive midge flash over top of cahill thread. Coat midge with super glue. Caught many fish with it today. Not hard to tie, just get the olive MIDGE flash. Olive flash is slightly different than olive midge flash.
Your pole is really small, just kidding with you. Thats a good sized one. I got one last year that was 2' long, didn't weigh him so it would be a guess on my part.
I always tell a fly fisher I'm crossing behind them, that's because I fish. Probably never crossed those peoples mind. And yes that guy should have been more aware of his surroundings. Thankfully she was only hooked in the arm.
I've been out when the were running "one" unit, depends on the actual cfs release if you can get out and wade fish. Time of year was a big factor in that we did good, it was cold weather, Now, in the heat, I don't know how good you would do.
Limited spots to fish when they're generating. I don't go. Try another day. Unscheduled generations are what sucks because you don't know when they happen, I will say that has happened in awhile to me.
http://www.swt-wc.usace.army.mil/power/hydropower.html#Day%201. Check out gauge data for tenkiller. CFS numbers don't coincide with horn blasts because the gauge is down stream, takes longer to get there.
Everytime you hear the horn sound it indicates a gate change. Watch the water to be safe. There is always a certain amount of water running when they don't generate and they will change this flow almost daily betore they generate. Watching the schedule you can see the difference in water flow numbers which corresponds with the horn blasts you here.
It's hard to believe something so small would even catch something. A river I fish in West Virginia, size 28 and size 32 black midges are used with really light tippet to take those stubborn trout in the really clear water.
In Oklahoma they will sound the horn before they release water as a warning, and then a few minutes later another long horn blast when the water is being let out. You still have to pay attention though because they sound the horn with any gate change. It's possible it could be an "unscheduled" power generation instead of an increase of the water flow during non generation. Those who fish the Lower Illinois know what I'm talking about. At least we have a warning.
I agree with the numbers being lower. I also caught a couple on a parachute adams dry, one being a brown and the other a rainbow. Most fish I've caught lately have been on midges and a jig I tie. I lost a nice one down in the red zone last monday. Pray for rain.
This is what I've been told. I did catch a striper during the middle of the day once, he was a little guy about 7" long. He didn't know any better. I was trout fishing.
i think the weekend after the water quit the continuous flowing the fish got slayed. Fished last thursday, and then on monday caught half as many. Still enjoyed myself. Hope we get some rain or we will have a rerun from last year.
So your saying it was crowded? I fished today and there was several people there eventually, I was the first there today. Caught about half of what I caught on thursday. Used my jig again and it did good. When fishing slowed I put a midge behind it and picked up more fish. Also used an egg fly with the jig later and had some fish on it. Missed several fish today but definitely could tell by the numbers that there was a lot of fish taken out this past weekend.
I'm going back monday to see if there's any fish left. I got some cerise color flash and tied a few jigs with it, wrapped the body. Little more flashy.
That increased flow helped to make a few spots productive. Low flows equal not productive. I didn't catch a single brown. Did you get those at Watts only?
