If you knew what it was doing when you don't see it then that's different. You don't. What I and you consider a threat are likely different. Whether I fear for my life by a wild animal proven to attack people or not is not based on the opinion of some dude on the Internet judging the situation without being there. The guy said it was a threat. He killed an animal that came toward him. He did not go looking for it. If I'm hunting and see one headed my way I'm killing it. If I lose site of it I'm more nervous so the stalking scenario is out. If you don't see it it could very well be stalking you. If you can't see it you can't kill it. I'd rather kill it when I see it rather than kill it when it attacks me. Or attacks cattle. Or whatever.

I would have shot it. No shame involved. I like to survive and his best option is to shoot it before he gets out of the tree stand. If you don't think a 150lb cat would be a threat walking out of the woods in the dark then I guess people must think they're vegetarians.

It might be worth comparing an onix to the 1198-1199 but I bet the 11 series will be great and still have money left for a Lakemaster chip. I looooove the lakemaster maps. You are welcome to see mine in person anytime I'm down.

I'm with bird watcher kinda. Just move the 898 up front and buy an 1198-1199 for the console. Getting a backlit screen (hd in humminbird talk) will solve the hard to view problem. If you are satisfied with the 898 screen size of just get an hd version of it or a 998-999 for the front and back. Universalmania can beat that $1500 by a few hundred easily btw. Bassboatcentral is the best place to look for used electronics. My current setup is a 998 non hd at the wheel and a lowrance lcx 112 at the trolling motor. I sit close to the screen so having hd on the 998 isn't as critical but it would be nice. The only reason I have the 112 is because it was a good deal from a friend. The screen is quite large at 10.4" and do far for vertical fishing it works great. It will get dumped for a bird though when I can afford it.

Thanks for the advice. I do run way way wide of point 7. I can't believe some don't actually. that's a mine field! My lower unit basically grenaded on its own. Gears hanging out of the case and everything. Best part was it was just after leaving the launch of the Superbass I was in. So I paid the entry to drive a couple miles and trolling motor back lol.
